Coming from an IndustryGamers article...

Some people have been holding out hope that Nintendo is going to unveil the final version of the Wii U and it's going to blow everyone away with its graphics capabilities. That scenario, however, is looking more and more unlikely all the time. While multiple developers are on record saying that the Wii U's hardware is in a state of flux, unofficial sources continue to place its power comparable to the Xbox 360/PS3, not above them.

I honestly wouldn't mind if the Wii U was just a bit more powerful than 360/PS3. We haven't seen a single Nintendo title with beefed-up graphics since the days of the GameCube. I'd love to see what Nintendo could do with visuals from the 360/PS3 generation.

It comes down to whether we should believe the devs who are actually working with the hardware rather than, um, "Unofficial sources".

If this happens. Wii U will screw up like Wii did. Get a good 3 year run. Then down the drain. We need those 3rd party games. And not excuses why it was downgraded/re-imagined version.

Just taking some of the Wii games and putting them in HD alone makes a lot of Wii games look on par with 360 and PS3 but putting the actual hardware on par with the other 2 systems alone would make for some really awesome experiences. With that said, I don't believe the Wii U is going to be the as powerful as the other systems, not after watching what I saw at E3. It definitely looks better.

Graphics are so overrated in my opinion. I own all three consoles this gen, and actually find the Wii to have the better looking games from an artistic standpoint. Nintendo creates games that are so visually pleasing (Mario Galaxy, Skyward Sword, Epic Yarn, Rhythm Heaven Fever, ETC.)

While it is nice to see games on my HD T.V when playing my 360 or PS3, it doesn't add anything to games for me personally.

Other than the Zelda WiiU tech demo, did we actually see anything actually running on the WiiU? If memory serves, we only saw PS3/360 footage.

Sure, I am fine with it just looking like PS360, but that means that when PS4 and NeXtBox or whatever they are called are unveiled, they will be even more powerful and the Wii U will end up like another Wii.

And honestly, I don't think the tablet is going to fly as well as motion controls did.

And the whole point of the Wii U jumping in graphics and what they are doing is to pull in the core gamers (the "U") and all of those people they are targeting will already have a PS3 or 360, so WHY would they buy a Wii U?

this. if the Wii U isn't a good deal more powerful than PS3 or XBox 360, the ONLY people who will have a reason to buy it is Nintendo fan boys who are gagging for Mario and Zelda HD. Well, that's pretty much all the big exclusives such a system will get, cos everyone else will just buy new games on a system they already own without having to fork out hundreds of dollars more. Wii U was going to be a Day 1 for me when I first saw it, but if this rumour is true then I'm abandoning it altogether.

Meh Gamecube was just as (if not more) powerful than the PS2 and Xbox and the Wii was underpowered, yet both didn't get the same AAA Third Party support that Sony/Microsoft Systems did.

Doesn't seem to matter how powerful a Nintendo system is in terms of Third Party support, the Nintendo games will still come and will still sell by the multi-millions.

I couldn't be arsed comparing and contrasting systems anymore. The #1 reason I buy any Nintendo system is for the Nintendo AAA Titles, if the type of games I play on Xbox/PC also come to a Nintendo system, my choice will be based on how the game plays in terms of controls and also how well it runs.

I'm calling bluff on this for a few reasons. Nintendo claims 1080p resolutions, not upscaled 560p like over half the games on PS360 are. Something only as powerful as PS360 would not be capable of native 1080p resolutions.

Also, something only as powerful as PS360 would not be capable of streaming video to two 6 inch screen tablet controllers in addition to a 1080p output to the TV. And yes, Wii U will support more than one tablet controller.

If anyone says they would be happy the Wii U is closer to power to the 360/PS3 then they are out of the loop, there's a reason the Wii did not get good third party support and that's because of how weak it is, the Wii U needs to be competing againest the 720/PS4 in terms of power and NOT the 360/PS3, and plus anyone could say this statement, I could say something about Sony and Microsoft next gen consoles and people would believe me, Nintendo is talking to developers of what they should do with the Wii U and to get good third party support and developers would tell them the Wii U needs to be far above in power compared to the 360/PS3.

The GameCube did not get the best third party support because of the disks they used for the GameCube, the Gamecube got much better third party support then the Wii because it was just as powerful as the PS2/Xbox.

If it's comparable to the competition right now, I'm down with that. I still believe that developers can continue to make great games with the current hardware now. I said it before in the past, I do not want to fork 70-100 dollars on games in the future.

the jump from nes to snes to 64 to gc was ground breaking. from gc to wii it was hardly noticable. just look at super mario sunshine and super mario galaxy. or compare time splitters 3 to the conduit 1 or 2. the wii u should be as powerful, if not stronger than the 360/ps3, if they want it to be taken seriously.

hd alone makes galaxy 2 look amazing. imagine what a little bit more power could do for the wii u.

It's not really winning at all if the console struggle to get games from 3rd party
