Team Meat - 3DS eShop has 2 GB limit, interest in bringing next game to Wii U

The following info comes from Team Meat’s Tommy Refenes...

“[WiiWare's] 40MB is horrible, but [3DS's] 2GB is reasonable. Super Meat Boy would have been on WiiWare if we could have had just a few more megabytes of space – you can only compress stuff so much before you have to start cutting out huge parts of your game. Unfortunately, at that point, it just isn’t worth the time.”

Refenes also expressed interest in supporting Wii U with their next game...

“If we can in the future, we’d like our next game to be on Wii U as well as everything else.”

50x seems more reasonable, yet even that could take a long time to download if your in a hurry.

You'd think but shortly before the Revelations demo was announced Chris Svennson said it wouldn't happen due to Nintendo's size limit.

2GB is a very fair limit. I still don't know why there are limits at all, but at least 2GB is pretty reasonable. Anything bigger might as well be a retail title.

2GB is plenty. Was the Resident Evil demo even close to that? It was like 1100 blocks. how many MB is that?

This size limit is pretty good imo and I bet it will be lifted once nintendo adds retail games. But if not then I'm guessing that Nintendo won't be bringing retail games that is over 2gb--metal gear and revelations to the eshop in the future.
The only other restrictions i see is that nintendo does not allow third party to offer free stuff on eshop thus forcing konami to provide a paid application of love plus to transfer data over to the 3ds game. Also Nintendo doesn't allow price drops which is unfortunate.

@GhuttoALT Most GameCube games aren't even that big! The max for NOD's are 1.4 GB, and most don't even come close to that size!
Favorite Game: Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga (GBA)

Team Meat - 3DS eShop has 2 GB limit, interest in bringing n

Postby LegendofSantiago » 26 Feb 2012 19:59

2GB is enough. That's the more than most 3DS retail games. If you want to publish something bigger than that it should be on retail because it probably wouldn't sell that well in the e-shop since the majority of the 3DS audience have a 2GB memory card (courtesy of nintendo).

Team Meat - 3DS eShop has 2 GB limit, interest in bringing n

Postby The_King_Up_North » 26 Feb 2012 20:09

A little bit off-topic, but it'd be nice if I could transfer all of my data from a 3DS game card to the 3DS itself. You know, so that I could play a retail 3DS game that I've already purchased without having to switch game cards. Even if it meant I couldn't use the card on other systems unless I deleted the data from the original 3DS (or moved it back to the card), I'd be okay with that.

Hopefully Nintendo will often its stance on these as well.
After all, the streaming services are free and we are seeing third party demos.

Wow...they limited to only 40MB for DSiWare? That is crazy. I've seen flash games larger than that...for real. Glad that they have a 2GB+ limit now. Maybe we can get some super mega big games to download lmao
