I think I should clarify a few things.

The box was very high-res on Amazon, so when I looked at it at full-size, I just randomly glanced at the scoreboard, noticed the names on it, and then wham, I saw that Bowser was called Koopa, only took me a sec or two to notice.

No zooming out was done, honest! :P

wow, WOW. Nobody should care about this because if you stare at the boxart you can't see it unless you do indeed have nothing better to do than to zoom uo 1000x on a boxart. Jezoos people whine about nothing

Bowser goes back to his old name for Mario Tennis Open

Postby Swedish_Otaku » 26 Feb 2012 12:06

First of all. Bowsers last name is Koopa. Secondly his japanese name is Koopa. Which make sense cause you often call people their last name in Japanese. So if it says Koopa it's no big deal...

In Mario Tennis Preview on the 3DS, If you use 3D on 0:14-0:20, You can also see Koopa On the Scoreboard. Probably Koopa for US and JP. The video preview during Nintendo Direct October

Really it means nothing.

Sometimes Japanese or beta screenshots are used. That's like saying every NES cartridge localized from Japan is the the Famicom version with a built in converter just because the first games were just that.

Bowser goes back to his old name for Mario Tennis Open

Postby LBD_Nytetrayn » 26 Feb 2012 20:01

Bowser has always been Bowser in the U.S. If I remember correctly, the exact wording in the instruction manual for Super Mario Bros. labeled him "Bowser, King of the Koopa."

Unless there was some earlier version which didn't have the change. Otherwise, it was just The Super Mario Bros. Super Show! which called him "King Koopa," and that carried over into The Adventures of Super Mario Bros. 3 and The New Super Mario World cartoons, though in those they would occasionally call him "Bowser" or "Bowser Koopa."

Since the Valiant comics used the cartoon version of the character's design, I think they used "King Koopa" more as well, though I think Bowser might have slipped in once or twice in much the same way as the DiC cartoons.

And of course, there was the movie, where he was simply "Koopa."

But as far as Nintendo of America is concerned, it has always been Bowser, unless the earliest releases (before the NES exploded into a phenomenon) had it as Koopa. But I've never seen anything to substantiate that.
