Fire Emblem: Awakening - another look at the points card

Postby LegendofSantiago » 04 Mar 2012 14:43

What's the difference between this and a pre-paid e-shop card?

@LegendofSantiago: It has a pretty picture. :D

It would be nice to have these in the States. I only see the plain, boring ones.
MasterofMonsters is super awesome! I lost a bet. Hehe!

Dat card.

Nothing in practice. It's literally just a pre-paid card with a Fire Emblem design on it.

Fire Emblem: Awakening - another look at the points card

Postby Autosaver » 04 Mar 2012 20:54

@YoshiRider123@M1
Fire Emblem Awakening isn't coming to NA. Zelda is a franchise that is pretty popular in NA and the games always come.

NoA will announce the line up for the second half of the year at E3.
I bet Fire Emblem will be on it.

Well, I'm just going off what has been said so far. The original trailer only had Japan & Europe listed.

Will Fire Emblem come over? I think it might. Sure they didn't localize the second DS game, but the 3DS doesn't have much competition now so I'm sure it'll sell well here. If it does get confirmed, the points card will most likely come to NA too.

Europe received a subtitled version of the Japanese Nintendo Direct, instead of their own.
North America had its own Nintendo Direct showing off all the upcoming games prior to E3.

Why doesn't NoE do a separate Nintendo Direct?

Though the second DS game was not released outside of Japan due to the tanking of Shadow Dragon in both sales and reviews.

Anyways All the games coming for the rest of the year will be announced at E3, with Fire Emblem getting a release date for NA and Europe.

Oh hi M!.

Shadow Dragon tanking in sales, I don't know about (aside from VGChartz which tells a different story, but it's VGChartz, so I'm kind of curious about what you mean), but reviews? What?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fire_Emblem:_Shadow_Dragon

The game received a score of 9/8/8/9 (34/40) from Famitsu. Eurogamer gave Shadow Dragon 8/10, and Nintendo Power gave it 8.5/10.

Nintendo Life gave the game a rating of 8/10, praising its gameplay and steady difficulty curve. While they stated that the game was not quite up to the standards of more recent Fire Emblem titles, they did state that the game still proves to be a very enjoyable experience.

Official Nintendo Magazine UK gave the game a rating of 86%, praising its gameplay and learning curve. It notes but forgives the lack of innovation due to it being a remake of a NES title. It does, however, find fault in some of the dialogue during the early stages and the functional graphics.

NGamer scored the game at 83/100, praising its "almost unlimited replayability" and states that "despite being a 20-year-old-game, Shadow Dragon stands up impressively well by today's standards". NGamer also praises the difficulty curve, and states that while the game may be "objectively inferior to more complex offerings such as Fire Emblem: Radiant Dawn ... there's still much for veterans to sink their teeth into". It finds fault primarily with the "threadbare" Wi-Fi options.

In the 2009 Nintendo Power Awards, Shadow Dragon was voted the "Best Strategy Game" by the readers.

Fire Emblem: Shadow Dragon has an average aggregated review score of about 81%. This is far from tanking. Critics around the world thought that it was actually a pretty decent game, so would a reason for the second DS game not being localized really be that Shadow Dragon was poorly received? I feel inclined to doubt that. While we can both probably agree that this reception is a lot more mixed within the FE fanbase itself rather than commercially (plenty of fans think it's rather poor, mediocre, cancer killing the series, etc.), how much water does this hold in convincing places like NoA/NoE that the sequel isn't worth bringing over when the media/press will likely play the same card, if not better, since the sequel actually is better (and by a large margin, apparently)?

Did you ever wonder why Nintendo has not mentioned it in any press release (Nintendo never comments on games that fail to meet expectations)?

I'm trying to be fair here, but I honestly would much rather see something that's more convincing that Shadow Dragon really didn't sell that well. Surely you have something better?
