Back in the swing of things, and it feels very good. Glad I'm getting back to the regular routine with End of Day thoughts. Things were just so busy for awhile there! I should be back in the normal flow from here on out. Famous last words, my friends! For now, I'll just run with that thought and head to bed. See you in a few, short hours!

When it comes to the internet, there are millions of people that hate everything. No matter how good you think something is, there are plenty of people just willing to shoot down that very thing you love. It doesn't matter what it is, who is doing it or what the actual content includes. There are more than enough people to toss out blind hate at the drop of a hat.

Nintendo fans know this all too well. It's been 'cool' to bash on Nintendo for years now. Ever since the N64 days, Nintendo fans have been crapped on for anything and everything. The company makes the same games over and over. Nintendo is too kiddy for its own good. The staple of characters/franchises are boring. Motion control is just a fad. Nintendo is about to close up shop. We've heard all these and many, many more.

The thing is, when it comes to internet bashing, you can just step away from it. You can argue or make valid points until your fingers are numb from typing, but it's just not going to get you anyway. The best way to deal with this is to just enjoy Nintendo for what it means to you, and don't waste your time getting involved in pointless messageboard battles. Be confident in what you enjoy! Be proud of what you put your free time into.

So yes, backing away from online hate is an easy thing to do. When things get hard is when that mentality comes at you in the real world. For every thousand people online that say they 'hate Nintendo', there are others that voice this opinion in the real world. Since we're all Nintendo fans here, I wanted to see just how often you've taken flack for your Nintendo love outside of the computer.

Do you have friends that give you crap for liking Nintendo? Do they toss out the same-old, tired arguments? Leave us a comment and let us know if you know any real-life Nintendo haters. Do you come in contact with them on a weekly basis? What do you do to stick up for your opinion?

GoNintendo 'End of Day' thought - Dealing with the Nintendo

Postby Agent_Rad » 06 Mar 2012 07:16

Nintendo haters are among the stupidest people in the world. I take solace in that they are nearly extinct these days, and those that aren't are rapidly killing themselves off. I live with one in particular that is grotesquely obese, knows this, and still shoves his face full of unhealthy treats all the time, as if to call forth his first heart attack and end his sorry existence. I tell him to be quiet, he's like "I am!" Even though he's not. I tell him to clean his garbage off the table, so he puts it on the floor. I tell him to be quiet after midnight, so he mixes blender drinks at 11:55. And naturally, he thinks that the playstation is the greatest thing ever and Nintendo is about to go third party like Sega. He's believed this for a long time now, I think he even put a preorder in on "Mario Galaxy" for the ps3 a couple of years ago.

I just want to tell these people, "Look at yourself. Do you look like any kind of example?" Of course, mere words would just go over their heads, so I don't even bother. I'll just wait and watch the world get better.

GoNintendo 'End of Day' thought - Dealing with the Nintendo

Postby WesFX » 06 Mar 2012 07:16

I knew one friend who wasn't favorable to the Wii. A good friend, who I could talk to about more than just video games, so it didn't get in the way. I honestly felt no need to justify my enjoyment of it to him.

It's funny that this topic and the message of "step away from it" comes up today, as only just yesterday, I changed my sig on a popular gaming message board/forum to publicly say that I wouldn't be feeding trolls anymore. I don't wanna quote it here, cause a quick Google search could lead you right to it, I'd think, but it wasn't worded so poorly as "I'm ignoring trolls now, kay". And I'm going to stick by it; I'm not going to give trolls the satisfaction of attention any longer at that place.

I have a couple of friends that don't really like Nintendo and only play Sony stuff. They don't really bash Nintendo anything like what it's like on the internet though. Honestly I don't really discus video games too much with those friends they play a lot of FPS's which I'm not the least bit interested in anyway, I usually talk about other things that we are mutually interested in. I mean they already know how I feel about Nintendo, and FPS's so it just doesn't come up, when I get the chance to hang out with my friends I would rather avoid arguing. Occasionally they will talk about games they have been playing or I will, but it never turns into an argument. I hear people talk about people bashing Nintendo at Gamestop and stuff, but the people at the Gamestop in my town are pretty nice and seem to like Nintendo too, so I haven't ever heard them do anything like that.

But how do we seperate a nintendo hater from someone who has reasonable doubts on nintendo's position and choices.

I see that on this site alot whenever the 360/PS3/Vita/PC is mentioned their bashed and considered nintendo hating even when your just comparing what other companies are doing better than the big N.

I had people at work who constantly belittled me about the Wii, saying it was a 'babies console' and would never compete with the Xbox and PS. I had great satisfaction watching it sell out like crazy and seeing them all suddenly desperate to get their hands on one. I'm a huge Mario fan and one guy decided to keep digging at me that the Mario games are all the same. I asked him if he played "Call of Duty". He said "Of course, it's awesome!" My reply was "But isn't that the same formula over and over?" He gave me a very dirty look but couldn't argue because I play COD too and he knew it. (He wasn't best pleased anyway as I am female and had reached Prestige and he was nowhere near!) I play on all the systems but I am very Nintendo loyal. I've reached a point where if someone doesn't like the games, it's their loss, not mine. I'll just play the games I want to and enjoy them. If they want to poke fun at the characters because they aren't 'real' like in the games they play then I just let them. I watched grown men and women all rush to get their pictures taken with a dude in a Mario suit at last year's Gamesfest here in the UK! You can't tell me he isn't 'real'!! He's also iconic, instantly recognisable and makes you smile. I'm sad for people who have to make it a war of whose console is best. I'm pleased that my enthusiasm for Nintendo has caused others to go see just what I am so exited about and have brought DS's and 3DS's to join in. One woman brought "Super Mario Galaxy" to play on her roomate's Wii because I was so agog with the game! She'd never brought a game before! For every one person who hates, there's another willing to see what fun can be had. My mantra is 'Eat, Sleep, Breathe Nintendo", it makes me happy and life's too short not to be happy.

GoNintendo 'End of Day' thought - Dealing with the Nintendo

Postby jasonmaivia » 06 Mar 2012 09:00

In my real life, I don't know anyone who hates Nintendo, but most of them don't like that their favorite games aren't on Nintendo consoles, especially the Wii.

...and they're absolutely right, which is why, if treated fairly and respectably, Wii U can totally change the way developers, publishers, and consumers look at a Nintendo console.

Many gamers agree that the Wii generation is the worst as a Nintendo gamer. I also feel this way.

GoNintendo 'End of Day' thought - Dealing with the Nintendo

Postby MoldyClay » 06 Mar 2012 09:04

I've never really dealt with "Nintendo haters" in real life so much as just people who don't own Nintendo consoles anymore because they weren't getting the games that they wanted. Which is understandable.

If anything, the only haters I've been around are people who just don't like games in general and think it's "immature" to play them. But I've never had a problem with friends. We actively hate and love all 3 console makers. Although I *have* had people tell me that the 360 sucks and that I should have gotten a PS3, but I honestly do not see the difference, and I'm only missing out on like... less than 10 games that I want.

I don't really think most people here have any right getting mad about 'haters' when they are exactly the same when it comes to Sony and Microsoft or anything that ISN'T Nintendo, though.

For every "Nintendo hater" you're going to find just as many haters of Sony and MS for no real reason. There isn't a good reason to hate any of them. Maybe Sony makes comments and maybe they pretend that their gaming is better or whatever, but at the end of the day, they're all just video games. And the people behind the companies are doing business. You say you're the best because you want people to buy from you. Nintendo does it too. Sure, they don't make low blows like the US branch of Sony (key: US; This crap doesn't really happen in Japan), but we've all forgiven SEGA for doing what Nintendon't and stuff like that.

I get branded here a lot as a hater, despite owning all of Nintendo's consoles and most of their big games and so on, simply because I defend the other companies sometimes. Or because, I don't always agree with Nintendo's decisions. There's a difference between being a huge fan and just being a blind fanboy and stupid. I'm not going to limit my enjoyment to one console for sake of some allegiance, and I'm not less of a fan just because I don't like some of Nintendo's choices or wasn't impressed with a game or two.

It seems Nintendo fans always have a chip on their shoulder and the slightest notion of "Nintendo did something I don't like" suddenly makes it an attack on Nintendo and every fan and they must rush to defend themselves/Nintendo and call them a hater. It's absurd.

People also need to chill out when it comes to comments about "dusting off your Wii" or "Motion controls are a fad". I shouldn't have to explain why "dusting off the Wii" is valid for a lot of people, but I think people don't understand the concept of a fad if they think motion controls never fell into that realm. They are, however, no longer a fad, as they are now a permanent part of gaming, just like touch screens, rumble, online and gyro sensors.

I am the only "Nintendo" guy out of my circle of friends. Usually we don't talk games but if I happen to mention my excitement for a Nintendo game (or system) that is soon to be relesed I always get a chuckle or scoff...we've had arguments in the past but usually just talk about other stuff-one things for sure though when we start drinking it aint even a contest-we ALL play my Wii ! On a side note N4G is full of Nintendo haters and trolls..

It's hard enough to not be a Nintendo hater myself lately, with Wii turning out to be such a turd. I hate that I spent $250 on something that just sits there, a Netflix machine for my spare TV. Just this last year I've played some fantastic games on my PS3.... Borderlands (not a 2011 title, but it was new to me), Arkham City, Mortal Kombat, Portal 2, Saint's Row the Third, Dead Space 2..... all third party titles that aren't on a Nintendo system. Last year on Wii I played Zelda. I love Zelda, but I wouldn't say I had as much fun with it as I did those other games.

I hope that Wii U will deal with the Nintendo hater in my life. We'll see.

Oh Nintendo haters. I used to be a big fanboy of Nintendo, and now it's more like "Let's just play a game." I'm Nintendo loyal, and will be for years. But I have endured Nintendo hate.

A good friend from high school was a huge Sony fanboy. He would give the "Nintendo is for kids" sentiment over and over again, and then of course would say "Well, Zelda doesn't count." Apparently neither did Metroid because he didn't like it. I haven't argued with him about games in years though.

Recently I was at a Gamestop and a guy and a girl came in, probably 14 or so. The girl tried playing the Wii and just couldn't figure it out. She then proceeded to call it a s***ty console, and that the PlayStation/Xbox were much better. The guy obviously had Nintendo in his blood, I watched as he tried his hardest to not disagree with her because he wanted to be with her romantically (that's the best wording I can come up with, OK?).

Moral of the story: don't let dumb girls who can't figure out controls take away your Nintendo pride. I laughed about it as I walked out of the mall. Poor guy.

I can usually shoot them down pretty quick. Either by saying "good for you." or something along the lines of "go play CoD" or "at least my wii is still working/I didn't get my credit card hacked."

The key is to not genuinely care. It gets them really flustered and embarrassed. When a Nintendo fan gets really up in arms he just looks like a doofus. :P

Meh, I just mainly hear friends debating over PS3 or 360, then they say it's okay because they can all agree that the "Wii sucks."

Then I debate them to retain my pride. Filthy casuals :p

i've experienced reading comments from a few trolls on a few nintendo websites, which i won't mention their names.

but for me, when i read negative stuff from them, i just ignore it and move on.

it's sad the whole video gaming community turned against nintendo just because of the direction they took with the wii.
i'm hoping the wii U will rectify some of the gaming and hardware issues the wii was dogged by, but also it does well enough nintendo have gone back to the roots that made them so great in the 80s and 90s.

the wii U's success- if it happens- will be because nintendo listened to and addressed those issues. and not because in part of their critics.

Yeah, since I hit 14, I've never (15 now) really heard any kind of Nintendo hate. HECK! The school I go to, the community I live in (NYC) some of them wear this 1-up beanies, sweaters, I even saw someone in my school wearing a "I'm the Bob-omb" shirt (girl)! My school has a good amount of Nintendo fans and no one puts each other down for it. If I ever found myself in an argument against a hater, I'll let them talk, consider it and walk away ^^

GoNintendo 'End of Day' thought - Dealing with the Nintendo

Postby zeeroid » 06 Mar 2012 11:08

I'm lucky enough that almost all of my closest friends are as much fans of Nintendo as I am. In fact, and I think it's a little bit sad to admit, though I'll do it anyway, this mutual love for Nintendo products is what instigated many of these friendships.

I am acquainted with many Nintendo haters but I don't spend very much time with these people.

"Dealing" with this kind of thing has thankfully never been something I have had to endure outside of the confines of the Internet.

Most kids in my school just say "Nintendo is gay" or "3DS sux cuz it has bad graphics!" Then they continue to draw penises on their notebooks. So I really dont take them seriously.

It´s always easier to hide insecurities behind hate then it is to embrace something that might make you look uncool among other equally insecure people. It´s a shame really, but in the end it´s their loss. We uncool-but-sure-of-our selves-people can freely choose from a wide variety of games and genres and enjoy them at our hearts content.

I have a Nintendo-hater-free social circle. We all talk about how we will love Nintendo till the day we die; Even if they never put out another game again simply for the fact of all the wonderful games and memories that they have given us throughout our childhoods in the 80's and 90's on the NES and SNES. Nintendo has had nothing left to prove to me for quite some time now.
