I love nintendo but really, the Wii sucks, I despise most games with motion controls, I don't hate it, I just don't like it, even though some games have reached me, like No more Heroes and Mario Galaxy, both with motion controls.

All of my friends are nintendo fans, we sometimes argue about Sony and Microsoft, because we all agree Nintendo is Nintendo and it is better than any other console company.

gta was too big for GC disk

N64 used limiting expensive carts( cost nintendo FF7)

A friend of mine (xbox fan) would completely bash Nintendo if a hint of it was mentioned. His argument is the Mass Effect isn't on Wii there for it sucks. Being that i understood where his opinion is coming from, I tried to form some sort of agreement that the Wii is a good system and just because it doesn't have mass effect doesn't mean there aren't any good games for it. He now wants me to bring those games over.

A guy in my college is a complete Nintendo hater even though he owns a 3DS. He would always point out negatively in anything Nintendo related. He thinks the PS2 and PSP had better visuals then the Wii and that Xenoblade, Last Story, and Pandora's Tower would never come to the states. I could go on but you know.. I can't reason with people who are to ignorant, stupid.

Thankfully never been around actual haters. My friends are pretty big on Nintendo-related stuff, actually.

Sure we each have a 360 and only a select few of us actually own a PS3, but in our opinion my entire group of friends [including myself] still love Nintendo and forever will.

That's not to say the company's screwed up themselves, but we still love em regardless.

I've had a fair share of ire from school-grade folks back in the day, mostly during the GameCube era when Nintendo's reputation was at an all-time low. But afterwards, I stopped caring and kept onwards with enjoying video games.

GoNintendo 'End of Day' thought - Dealing with the Nintendo

I can only imagine you could be "hated" on if you were in middle school. Or maybe that you based all your gaming exclusively on Nintendo? I can see that being upsetting to someone who cares about how others spend their time. But never in my life has anyone made fun of me for liking Nintendo because I play other games as well. Just might not be their cup of tea. I would say in terms of gamer friends it's split half some have a nintendo system with 360/PS3 other just 360. Nobody owns just a Nintendo console.

GoNintendo 'End of Day' thought - Dealing with the Nintendo

Postby scikoolaid » 06 Mar 2012 13:44

Don't think so, people I know usually just want to talk about what they like rather than what they don't or have no reason to like yet. Once you find the middle ground of what someone's tastes are you could easily chat about whats available on a system they never considered getting because they don't know about said games.

Most of the friends I know have good memories of Nintendo consoles especially gameboy, snes, n64, but they only buy playstation or xbox now. I can understand the lack of games they wanted were available on the gamecube and wii, no question about it, shooters being a good example they want to play. But I have yet to understand why they don't usually care about games that look like Mario even though they can have fun playing on my wii! It's peculiar. I figure to myself they just don't have as much fun testing their platforming skills vs pointing and shooting ppl for gameplay.

I love the "theres no games to play on the wii" argument ive gotten, I ask them which great games are there that i cant get an equivalent in the genre on the wii? I usually find out that these people have no idea what games have actually appeared on the wii when they say COD... I usually point them to this article http://gamernews.ucoz.com/news/an_updat ... 12-02-28-7 when it comes to the 3rd party Myth and it usually quiets them down for a bit.

Most gamers that I know personally aren't half as devoted to the medium as I am. Admittedly I have far more free time than they do at the moment, and they don't plan to work in the industry like I do so it makes sense.

My closest friend plays his 360, mostly shooters with the occasional RPG like Fable or The Elder Scrolls thrown in there. The difference with him is that he grew up with Nintendo, a trait that Nintendo haters commonly share (not to count him among them, just a point I thought I'd make). We grew up together, always spending our recess time talking about Ocarina and Majora's Mask. Then he bought an Xbox, I bought a GameCube, and we suddenly had a lot less to talk about when it came to video games.

We still hang out frequently and we would play Mario and Zelda on my GameCube, and Halo and Splinter Cell on his Xbox. He still plays Xbox, but he's hardly a fanboy or a Nintendo hater. He is one of those "I hate Wind Waker and Zelda should look like Lord of the Rings" guys though. Oh well.
"So here's to Kid Icarus - Uprising, my new favorite game of all time. Thanks for playing."

Not long ago, when I was still visiting /v/ rather regularly, I noticed the Nintendo hate had been subsiding and turning into Nintendo love, with Ninty fans not falling for the same old trolls anymore. I hope it stays that way.

Never had a bad experience with a person who didn't understand Nintendo in real life. We always had interesting debates! Has something to do with me being larger than the average male. So ya most aren't that confident in telling me how they really feel. Still that was years ago now most people are know are too busy with real life.

Much of my friends own only Xbox 360s. I'm the only one who owns a Wii so they coming over and we play games such SSBB and Mario Kart Wii. One of them is a LoZ fan so he has come over to play Skyward Sword. So despite us owning different consoles, we just come together to play and enjoy the games and never bring up anything fanboy related. :gamer:  ~ Eat, play, have a good time

As for the internet side of things for myself, I try to avoid the Nintendo haters by coming to this site since they can almost certainly be found on every other gaming site. Before finding this site I was thinking there was less and less people who liked Nintendo among the crowd of haters. . .lucky I was wrong. :)

A lot of the hate comes from misinformation that people have. I was shocked recently when I told a friend of mine that GC was more powerful than PS2. He expressed real surprise at that fact. Sony marketing had clouded his brain to the point where he thought everything Sony was ultra-powerful I guess. I also told Him Wii U might not come with a hard drive. That really pissed him off. Before I could even explain the diferent possible storage options he went off on a tangent about how doomed Nintendo was.

Some of the hate that people have is valid imho though. I really do hate Sony. I would never make fun of anybody for playing it, but I hate it nonetheless. Hell, my first two PS2's failed on me, and I personally think that Sony has been responsible for many bad trends in videogames:

Copying ideas
emphasizing system power over original game design, despite not having that much system power
deceptive marketing
cutscenes and narratives over immersive player control.
pushing 3D at the expense of 2D...
load times and long game installs

I really am starting to dislike my Wii also; it is just sitting there. I tried to play SS but could not get into it. I guess I am just more dissapointed because I spent so much money on it, and I feel like the' promise has not been fulfilled like it could have, especially by third parties.

In the end, I think everyone is entitled to their opinions, even if they might be misguided sometimes. As long as you don't try to belittle other people over what they like.

GoNintendo 'End of Day' thought - Dealing with the Nintendo

Postby NeroSuferoth » 06 Mar 2012 15:02

I don't know any "real" haters.. My friends just lost interest in Nintendo a while back and most of them think the Wii is a joke (hard to argue on that).

I'm the closest one to being a hater as I'm the only one who owns a Wii and aside from all the obvious flaws the Wii has, with all the stupid decisions Nintendo has made they're ones who drove me to hate them and the Wii somewhat.

When we start to talk and argue about games and companies the only thing I can give Nintendo credit for this gen is on their first party titles.

Yeah I agree with some of that Nerosuferoth. I really like Punchout and the three Mario Platformers for Wii, but I though Smash and Mario Kart were not what they could have been. I liked Twilight Princess but could not get into SS The first party games have been a mixed bag for me overall. It was all great promise and limited delivery in my opinion. I hope they launch Wii U with a huge 2D zelda with kickass multiplayer!

GoNintendo 'End of Day' thought - Dealing with the Nintendo

Postby kdognumba1 » 06 Mar 2012 15:24

You know, I've heard hate come from a lot of areas against everything Nintendo since the N64. At this point, every time I hear somebody kind of try and throw Nintendo under the bus, especially the Wii though, I remind them (if they're an actual gamer or somebody I know) about the many flaws that ALL 3 consoles have this generation in every area especially when compared to PC gaming.

The thing is, I don't mind hate, as long as it's not biased, one sided, or misinformed. Ya there's things you can legitimately hate on about Nintendo but then there's also a lot of those same problems are shared across all 3 systems.

Saying stuff like Nintendo uses the same franchises over and over is negated by the fact most of those franchises (excluding the many Mario games/spin offs) see maybe 1 or 2 entrees if any at all per system AND the competition sometimes see's yearly releases that are only milked further by DLC that should be included in the box.

Having the complaints about graphics on Nintendo systems is only negated by the fact that a superior PC blows EVERYTHING out the water and if you truly want hardware demanding games, that's what you'd be playing.

The argument about the online capabilities are negated by massive hack attacks on PSN and Microsoft not letting you take out your card info without calling them (and when you do cancelling your gold membership), charging you automatically for stuff (like subscription renewal), and not letting you refund games that were bought on your console accidentally because some genius thought it was a good idea to have some items require points and some just charge directly to your card (this is bad if you have kids, family, or stupid friends around.... or if you drop the controller).

Trust me when I say this, each system has many issues this gen where I can go on a long rant about. Trying to put 1 in front of the other is stupid and really, tbh, it doesn't take a rocket scientist to see the problems. At this point, people who want to throw Nintendo under the bus and make it out to sound like Nintendo stuff is bad or is the only one that has problems, it's just eye roll and facepalm worthy and the best thing to do for them is walk away as they're not a real gamer and their ignorance isn't worth your time.

GoNintendo 'End of Day' thought - Dealing with the Nintendo

Most all of my best gamer friends have a severe lack of respect for Nintendo. The friends/family members I know who play games but are not "hardcore" gamers like Nintendo... but don't really have any sense of one company over another.

Also, when I enter any game store and ask for Nintendo-related products, 9 times out of 10 I feel like I just asked them where the perverse sexual products are... because they kind of change their tone to like "uh, ok, yea... if you're in to that (thought you were cool for a sec!)"

... in both cases, gamer friends and store employees, I can't flappin' stand it and it really bugs me and I wish we could all just respect/enjoy our mutual hobbies.

Yeah this. I could fill up pages of info where I think all three console makers dropped the ball this gen.

Ex 1. the D-pad on the Wii
Ex 2. the D-pad on X-BOX
EX 3. lack of rumble on PS3 controller to start this gen
EX 4. lack of good rumble on Wii remote
EX 5. taking out bc on later systems
EX 6. taking out other os on later systems
EX 7. taking out extra usb ports on ps3, taking out multi monitor out capablity.
EX 8. not having HDMI to start this gen (360 and Wii)

I could type this list for days, without even getting into RROD or PSN problems.
