"A lot of companies, if you look at them today, they'll be like, 'Oh, Okay. How do we monetize? Where's the money to be made? What are we giving the consumers that they want?' They don't really have a creative vision for what to build a game around. We have this creative concept, and that's what we're going to build our IP around. We're not going to focus it necessarily on the money... We're not going to focus it necessarily on what exactly the people want. This is going to be our vision and what we're going to stick to it." - Keiji Inafune

I'd say this applies to nearly all big developers; an unfortunate side effect of giant budgets.

Inafune - Japanese devs lack creative vision

@beigean@stealth

I agree with both of yall. This goes for everybody. More companies need to expand their horizons on innovation regardless of where they come from.

This is one of the reasons why we've come as far as we did game wise. People didn't just start out with these huge budget games making these million sellers movie like experiences, they had to start small. Game Companies can't expect all games to sell the same numbers that X game does by trying to clone the game. Companies must build their name by working on original games and expanding over time.

On a business perspective, what he's saying is MADNESS!
But I LOVE that.
It's exactly what I want to do. The guy is really cool. I can't wait for King of Pirates. :D
Shy Guy? How did I return to that?? I was a Koopa? ... AWESOME!

Too bad this problem exists elsewhere in the gaming industry. :(

Come on, designers. Think of something wild and crazy awesome, and make them a reality! Use drugs if you have to! :lol:
