Rumor - Is LucasArts working on an MMO for Wii U?

Once again, coming from E3 show floor listings...

Well that's certainly very interesting. We've heard all sorts of rumblings about this LucasArts project, and now we have a Wii U tie-in! Thanks to Arkhander for the heads up!

I'm not a big fan of MMOs but it would be good to see one on the Wii U just to prove that they work on the Wii U

My money is on The Old Republic ported to Wii-U. Some might say that would fall on Bioware rather than LucasArts but I disagree. LucasArts could be working on it, plus I highly doubt they're making a brand new MMO.

Wow, if it were somehow Battlefront 3 (though, MMO?) that would be incredible. If Nintendo got the reveal of that during their press conference, a lot of people would be getting hyped I'm sure...

That's very interesting. Anyone know if the same project is also listed in the Sony and MS sections? It would have a much bigger "wow factor" if it was a Wii-U exclusive.

This seems fake. Why would anyone choose an MMO for their first game on an unreleased system? No one knows what the Wii U install base will be yet, let alone the install base that's interested in an MMO. It's too illogical.

That is how you create an installbase, by the first games you release, look at the wii, or the gamecube, all of the games followed that lead.

I don't see how this wouldn't work, only console fanboys despise MMO's, because they have never tried them, but this would be the start of a new era.

Actually, this wouldn't be the first MMO announced for Wii U. Dragon Quest X is coming out for both Wii and Wii U and it's an MMO as well. So, this could actually be real.

An install base isn't a predetermined thing. If you build products for certain audiences (in this case MMO players), they will come.

How do you think audiences form on a system? They just appear? And then someone makes a game for them? No. They 'appear' because they find software they like and buy the system based on that. If we used your logic, no one would ever make a single launch title because 'no one knows what the install base will be yet.' That thinking is what is illogical. Not making an MMO for an unreleased system.

Yeah, but Dragon Quest X is sharing servers with the Wii version, and millions of people own Wiis.

I don't know how to @ mention people here so I 'm not sure if the rest of you will see this response. I still say this is a risky move. Financially, an MMO would need a substantial number of subscribers from the get go to create an enjoyable experience for players and justify the servers needed to run the game. This wouldn't be the same as releasing an MMO for PC or an established console because you're asking people to go out and buy an entirely new system to play the game, and let's not forget the monthly fee. It's not impossible that they're making an MMO, but with the state of the economy I don't see a publisher taking this kind of risk.

Very interesting. Star Wars Battlefront 3 would be great, but it might be something completely new.
