Wishful Thinking: Pandora's Tower listing showing up in GameStop's computer system?

We're hearing a rumor that a couple GameStop locations have a listing for Pandora's Tower in their computer systems. Instead of letting the story run wild, I hopped on the phone and called up my local GameStop. Luckily I got someone on the phone that I know.

I had him type in the name and see if he could find the game in their system, even if it was just a bare-bones listing. Unfortunately, he said he couldn't find anything at all. Is this rumor of select GameStop locations having the game in their system just wishful thinking? As far as I know, the computer system is the same nationwide, so me thinks this is a bit of bunk.

Wishful Thinking: Pandora's Tower listing showing up in Game

Postby Eliskor » 07 Apr 2012 18:31

yeah, as much as I'd be all over this if its true, they'd all have it not just a few stores which are probably out in the boondocks. I do think we'll get Pandora's Tower but I don't expect it to be announced till E3 at this point.

Yeah, except that was universal between all GameStops and it happened early in the morning. This is only a few GameStops and near the end of the day. It seems fishy.

And to the other person, yes PT got the lowest scores out of the 3 Rainfall supported titles, but they were by no means "bad". The Last Story's reviews were mixed as well but it got it localized (Thanks, XSEED!) so I don't think the reviews will effect PT's chances all that much. Nintendo will see the sales of Xenoblade (300k~ with US and CAN. combined) and also TLS and see that taking a gamble can indeed pay off. I really don't see reviews hindering PT all that much, if at all.

Wishful Thinking: Pandora's Tower listing showing up in Game

Postby Eliskor » 07 Apr 2012 19:29

I fail to see how a 7 is "bad". All that is the game is "good" just that its not "Great". Its bad if its getting 5s and lower. Which none of the trio did.

If the game was as bad as you people make it out to be, why would Rainfall be pushing for it so hard? >_>

3 7s, an 8 and a 9 really tell me the game is worth picking up.

Besides since when are we listening to people who are paid to review when their reviews come out their butts?

They just got caught up in the moment. They already had the whole thing planned out with just Xenoblade and The Last Story and then Nintendo announced Pandora's Tower and they added it at the last minute. Now they have to go with it because they don't want to look like they are backing down after getting Xenoblade and The Last Story. Or something like that. :P

Getting a 7 isn't that bad, it's a good score, but not great or AAA quality.

No, they picked out ones they feel had the potential to sell and sell a lot. Hence why they aren't pushing for titles like Beyond the Labyrinth. They know what can and can't sell. They feel Pandora's Tower has great potential and NoE must also or they'd not off up a Limited Edition of it. They know damn well Pandora's Tower can, and will, sell a lot of copies. It wasn't just a whiny brat who wants everything but won't appreciate it.

They do have some business sense. I too think Pandora's Tower can sell well. Maybe not as much as Xenoblade Chronicles mind you, but still sell well enough that it'd make Nintendo a good profit if they do indeed decide to bring it over to American shores (which I honestly do foresee happening between August and September).

Nah. You see, Beyond the Labyrinth is not a Wii game and it's not a Nintendo published game either so it wouldn't make sense to throw it in the Operation Rainfall bunch. Pandora's Tower was thrown in there because it's one of the last few Wii games Nintendo is releasing in Japan. It's not being singled out because it is good or promising or has potential to sell. It's being thrown in because it's there and there's nothing else there. We are going through a drought of Wii games. That's why it's called Operation Rainfall.

Ehhhh whatever.

In my opinion, a 7 isn't a bad score. However, it's best to just rent it.

I've spoken with the higher ups at Operation Rainfall many times in the past, and they have said they aren't going to just focus on the Wii and call it quits when the games come out. No, they want to continue past that. They are looking at 3DS games to promote in the future. So your argument is invalid at this point. If they were doing just any game then why are they not campaigning for the Fatal Frames? They picked out games they have a lot of confidence in.

I really hope this game comes here (USA). About the good/bad reviews honestly I don't care that much, people trashed FFXIII and FFXIII-2 and I enjoyed them. I agree that Pandora's Tower doesn't look like Xenoblade or the Last Story but it never intended to compete with them to begin with.

Well, OpR didnt have these review scores to check back in the day the decided to request it. I think is more like "Hey this is an RPG NoA is not localising, we should add it to our list with the other two!". I doubt OpR would stop supporting it even if it was mediocre or kinda bad by this time.

Wishful Thinking: Pandora's Tower listing showing up in Game

Postby MoldyClay » 07 Apr 2012 21:19

1. 7 isn't a bad score. You guys are silly if you think that.

2. Pandora's Tower isn't even the same genre as Xenoblade or The Last Story, so it's not really fair to compare them.

Personally, I am looking forward to Pandora's Tower the most. That was originally the only game of the 3 that I gave a crap about.

Yo! I posted the rumor over on NinTemple.com.

I am going to call the GameStop tomorrow and follow-up on this story since it sounds like many other GameStops are saying they have not gotten that news =\

BUT! I will follow-up and stick by the story and not run away like a lot of "blog news" does this days!
... especially since our site doesn't really do "news!"

I only report what comes to me!

I agree with you regarding the scores. The problem is people often don't even read the review or the article they just scroll directly to see the number. According to a study of the Stanford University (published around a month ago on nbcnews) over 70% of people don't finish reading the article before posting a message. Also there are other factors to consider, Famitsu for example have 4 different reviewers getting you 4 different scores. Personally I think having an average of 7 or 8 in Famitsu more valuable than having a 7 in any other magazine.

I don't usually trust Famitsu due to giving A LOT of games a 40/40.

I do, I agree that sometimes 40/40 are suspicious but I just think that different cultures have a different ways to rate. I think that details like the camera and controls, for example, don't bother Japanese as much as Americans and Europeans.
