Dirty secret time! I picked up Sigma Star Saga...but I never completed it. I don't think I made it that far either. Now the Shooter/RPG genre is struggling, and I'm part of the problem! Would it help if I went back and restarted this game?!

I actually picked up - and beat - Sigma Star Saga. It's a good game. Just most of the Shooter/RPG genre games these days either come out of Japan or are Indie titles.

A list that doesn't even have seven items on it.
And by the way, does anyone really want interactive movies back? Didn't the genre evolve into games like Heavy Rain?

Oh go play games you guys haha.

Seriously though, I found this list a great read. Lots of nostalgia from my part, but also some things I didn't know. Got a little smile on my face :)

nGen:

I don't know. I would rather put HR closer to classic adventure games (AKA Point and clicks).

Video Game Genres on the Verge of Extinction

Postby Battlestriker123 » 11 Apr 2012 21:18

Do you know which genre is on the verge of extinction? 3D PLATFORMERS. Because apparently Nintendo is the only one who thinks the genre exists. Whatever happened to the rest?
Favorite Game: Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga (GBA)
Just Finished: Luigi's Mansion: Dark Moon (3DS)
Now Playing: Professor Layton and the Miracle Mask (3DS)

I would say that interactive movies are just an offshoot of the adventure genre, relying on quicktime events instead of point and click.

No. In the adventure gener you actually have to play a game. Move around and solve puzzles. In some there are multiple pathes to take (Blade Runner...Oh what a game). In interactive movies just to press the button of choice and hope for the best.

Just a heads up, when you have to press a button to advance in the game, that's called playing the game.

Comparing Heavy Rain to the greatness that is the PnC genre is like comparing apples to horseshovel in the shape of apples.

No way can an interactive movie create an immersive world with many places to go and to see and things to do a la Quest for Glory II

Have you seen the new platforming game by Polytron called "Fez"? It actually looks pretty good!

That said, I think that the president of Polytron, Fish, can be a pretty big douchebag, so that may inform whether you want to give your money to them for a game...
