Spector on lack of online in Epic Mickey 2, hints at 'epic adventure' for other Disney characters
Click Here to View Story

A portion of a MeGamers interview with Warren Spector...

MG: Why did you decide not to include online multiplayer?

WS: If you go to any Disney movie screening, what do you see? A father and daughter enjoying the movie together; a couple enjoying a quiet movie night on their own – people enjoy spending time together. Which is what we thought about when we worked on the multiplayer aspect of the game. We wanted people to come together and enjoy the game sitting together on their couch at home, rather than with a stranger across the globe. Excluding online gameplay might be a decision I regret later on, but we’ll come to that at our next interview!

MG: Do you think that we’ll see other Disney franchises explored in a way similar to Epic Mickey?

WS: Of course! It would be great to spend the rest of my life honoring these characters for as long as I can, so don’t be too surprised if you see another epic adventure heading your way in the years to come.

I can't even see why somebody would want to play Epic Mickey online, it just doesn't sound like it would work. IMO, they made the right decision cutting out online.

Except the only people I know who are remotely interested in EM2 lives on the other side of the globe... So yeah, to me this is a problem.

I can't say I would be excited if Epic Mickey had online multiplayer to begin with. I think it's more of a good decision the game didn't go in that direction. The main game still needs to be fun enough for me to give a crap anyway.

@motherbra1n

It's a multiplayer game. Why is that sad?

@OprahFTWinfrey

I don't see why. On Wii it wouldn't work since nobody supports Wii Speak anymore, but there's no reason for it to not exist on the PS3 or 360 versions.

Local co-op is always the best, but you can't always do local, so online works as an alternative.

I feel like this would be significantly easier to play co-op if it were online with a headset. It allows both players to see the whole screen as opposed to half of it.

I don't see how it would work any less than a LEGO game or something, which support online.

HAVING SAID THAT, I plan to mostly play this solo, so I can enjoy the environments, but I will be playing multiplayer as well, solely because I want to play Oswald.

I've always liked the feeling of co-op play offline than online. It's easier with your partner physically beside you IMO.

When you have family and friends who live far from you, you'll want to have that option.
It can work. It's drop-in/drop-out multiplayer action!

@Moldyclay & jasonmaivia
I was referring to the wii version since there isn't a way to communicate with the other person you're playing with. I really should've specified. My bad.

People seem to assume that online means "multiplayer deathmatches" alone apparently.

There are also co-op modes one could enjoy playing with friends when they aren't available to come visit.

Wii Speak isn't supported because it was replaced with the headsets.... communication will work just as good in the Wii like the other consoles, and even better, because it's so easy to connect wireless keyboards through USB and use a virtual keyboard compared to a regular controller too. No problem at all. I can't see how the game will work at all with the 360 version incidentally.

It could still work out if it allowed Wii Speak or USB keyboard support, like Monster Hunter.
Even back on the Dreamcast, I had no problems with playing their online games.
