I am honestly very surprised how far this Super Mario 4 talk has come. We posted the story a couple weeks back, but the domain was listed among a bunch of other prospects for Nintendo games. I think Nintendo is just protecting any possible future direction they could go, but plenty of people think Super Mario 4 is the real deal. If it does happen, here are some ideas that might make sense.

I could only care about Mario4 if it was for the Wii U... and if so, No more Galaxy clones!

Super Mario 4 - What we want to see

Postby IxisNaugus » 13 Apr 2012 21:05

This reminds me of when Square-Enix secured the "Final Fantasy XIII-3" domain and people went ape. I guess that one could actually still happen, though.

@NeroSuferoth

What to you constitutes as a Galaxy clone, if you don't mind my asking? Are you talking about the "star-finder" nature of 3D Mario games, or are you more strictly addressing Galaxy 2?

Once again, nintendoallaccess.com was the only one actually initially registered by them. That's the one to take note of.

Super Mario 4 - What we want to see

Postby Broken_Cartridge » 13 Apr 2012 22:00

In Super Mario Bros. 4 I want there to be a world map that you get move around and go to new levels. Progressing in each level opens up the world map for more possibilities...There should also be hidden exits in levels that grant you access on the world map that is otherwise inaccessible.

Also, I think that Nintendo needs to add a new element of gameplay to the mix. I think a dinosaur would be pretty neat. Mario could ride on top of it and this dinosaur could eat the enemies that are in front of you. They probably should also add new power ups. For instance, they could add a cape which would allow Mario to glide through the air, and, with skill, fly upwards for a certain length and then never fall to the ground.

Spoiler:
Oh yeah, Super Mario Bros 4 is Super Mario World.

Super Mario 4 - What we want to see

Postby Ninja Shroom » 13 Apr 2012 22:11

I don't think they would ever call another game Super Mario 4 or Super Mario Bros 4 and New SMB is only to 3rd third one.

And why are people ignoring the other bunch of misspelled and weirdly named websites they registered on the same day? Shouldn't we be exited about Pokemon Animals?

Also, they just got supermario.com a while ago. Doesn't mean they're making a game called Super Mario. These guys are probably next. supermariobros4.com

I know this cliche'd but please let us make our own levels that way if we hate the level design we can just mess arround with it.

I never quite understood what the love affair with the Kuribo's Shoe was. Most people skip the whole game with whistles, and when they don't, it's only featured in six or seven levels, and prominently in one or two of those at best?

I'd rather see some returning powerups that've been ignored that aren't the Kuribo's Shoe.

I have to be "that guy", but Super Mario World is Part 4. Certainly Nintendo hasn't forgotten that. Not to mention that this seems like Nintendo got this idea from Sega's Sonic experiment, (hopefully) minus the episodes.

Still, a new old-school Mario will likely be fun, and hopefully it will be as innovative and game changing as Part 2 (USA) and 3 were to the first game. I wouldn't even mind a retro 8-bit look to it.

Actually, Kubiro's Shoe was a one-off item. Only appeared in one level, and that was it. It's just different and fun, and that's why people are so fond of it.

I suppose that's fair. Could've sworn it was in more than just ONE level, though. Maybe my memory is failing me. Might be time to go back and play Mario 3.

Super Mario 4 - What we want to see

Postby NeroSuferoth » 13 Apr 2012 22:58

@IxisNaugus

I mean, if you look at Galaxy, Galaxy2 and Super Mario 3D, you're basically looking at the same game... I didn't feel NSMB but at least it was different.

i want a new high flying item that shakes things up like how NSMB's propeller hat did. i feel like a pogo stick mechanic would be neat, as long as it's not as flimsy and slow as the spring power up from the galaxy games.

I think some Mario guide from way back when promoted it as the rarest item in the entire Mario series.

Hey, any excuse to play SMB3 is always a good thing.

The 'same game'? Are you trying to be funny?

Also, for the people who always whine about NSMBWii's visuals, what happened to the "gameplay>>>graphics" motto?

Super Mario 4 - What we want to see

Postby thegreatscp » 13 Apr 2012 23:28

Frankly, I'm way more interested to see what Alphadream has been up to since 2009. I think it would be ridiculously awesome if Mario & Lugi transitioned to Wii U, since Paper Mario has gone to 3DS. Oh, the possibilities!

@Blue_Falcon

NSMBWii was so bland and generic. I want a Mario game with style and pizazz. Galaxy series had some of that, but I think something totally unexpected and original like Sunshine might be a nice change. I'm tired of the same thing over and over again. That's why I didn't buy 3D Land. I tried it for a few days and it was just way too similiar to the Galaxy games.

Super Mario 4 - What we want to see

Postby NeroSuferoth » 14 Apr 2012 00:02

@Blue_Falcon

No, I'm being serious.

And I actually liked NSMB Wii's look (as bland and identical to the DS game as it was) more than its floaty gameplay, sorry to say.

I wouldn't mind another 2D entry for Mario4, but something with tighter and more precise controls would be great.

Super Mario 4 - What we want to see

Postby Mirr0rR3flection » 14 Apr 2012 00:29

As long as a new 3D mario isn't so fricken linear like the Galaxy games and 3D Land, I'd be more than happy with what they give me. Give me back my freedom to explore! ^¬^

As for a new 2D Mario game, I'd like it to be more of a challenge. New Super Mario Bros. Wii was way too easy. (¬˛¬)

The series to end. LittleBigPlanet does what Mario does but much more and also better.
