Post count

Okay, so a little weird thing that I noticed today. My number of posts have now went down. I'm pretty sure I had over like 300 something posts on this board yesterday and now a day later I am back in the 200's again.

So has this happen to anyone else or just me? Did some of my posts get deleted or something? Again, just asking this as it's strange seeing and have no idea what is going on.

Its not just you since I went from Bounty Hunter then back to F-Zero Racer. I think the mods were just tidying things up if you know what I mean. I don't mind it all really.

yes.. the blog discussion forum got trimmed a bit, mainly to dump some of the old threads while the blog/boards integration feature was still in beta. so some really old threads/stories that were a) already locked and b) hadn't been viewed in a year or more got cut.

but don't worry.. nobody judges you on post count. except me, but that's only because i'm creepy like that.

kind of a different topic, but still, those don't really have any actual meaning or purpose at least on this site, unless you have a special title like moderator. just for fun i guess.

Nearly 300+ of my posts have been cut. I'm guessing it has a bigger effect on older members.

No big deal. Although I do feel a little sorry for Artistic_Anarchy who lost over 4,000 posts, and other people with similar situations.

sorry man... guess some people had more in those beta section threads than others. but since it was the blog section, i'm sure everyone's posts strictly followed the site guidelines (like 1,2,3 word posts, etc.)

Is the post count increasing from now on in the forums? I've noticed everyones including mine doesn't increase when posting in the GoNintendo Blog Story Discussion, but does increase when posting in forums.

Nothing's increasing no matter where I post. Maybe because I'm posting from the front page sometimes...

One more thing...
I have it set so that all posts I make will auto-subscribe to it to send notifications to me through email on the message board, but it doesn't auto-subscribe when I post from the GoNintendo news pages. That means that I have to do it manually every time for each news story. My auto-subscribe settings aren't working for it.
Sometimes I forget to subscibe after I post, and I end up forgetting about it (which means that I miss out on replies).

I'm a little on the dumb side. So blog posts don't count anymore or it just needs to catch up with what the post should be from the final version of the site on up. Like I haven't increased from 201 for a few days now, so I have to wait for my current site posts to reach 201 for my counter to go up or did I miss something....

now that all the 'beta' stuff was cleared out, yes:

first, (again) post count doesn't really mean anything. it's literally just a number with zero value whatsoever. the only thing it does affect is the little title/rank, which also doesn't really mean anything beyond e-dicksize, and we all know it's not how big, but how you use it that matters. but those things don't show up in the blog anyway, so it's essentially just for the forum, and second, why should people who (more or less spam) post things like "this" "fail" etc. get to rack up higher ranks than people who take the time to post genuine stuff on the forum that they're not even using? we don't even allow that kind of one-word stuff on the forums. yes, the two areas are linked, but clearly they're not used equally or for the same purposes by the general masses.

so incrementing blog comment posts to count toward forum rank is off. if you want to boost your rank on the forum, you'll have to actually participate on it.

besides, if you actually load someone's posts (from their profile), you can see a full count of everything if you're really curious.

i am sure too.. the same thing happened when we dumped wordpress (which strangely received no comments/complaints; kind of scary, actually). years of those comments just disappeared. we should still have the database archived; it's just not plugged into anything.

the best is yet to come, right?

Ah, that explains a lot. Thanks. I do wish people would participate more in the forums. No thread really last ore than a few posts and only threads about big titles get any time to grow. And even then it's only for 1 thread or as long as the game is still fresh. On other forums, I've seen people with less to talk about then us go on for 20+ pages talking amongst themselves. That's what I want for this forum. So let's start chatting it up guys...

SteelDiver also made a similar topic about this that was deleted (I don't know why it was, though). I'm assuming that this is something that affected a lot of people. My post count has decreased by about 100.

Post count doesn't really matter though. Being part of a community and posting there is to get enjoyment out of the conversations you have, not a meaningless post count status.

This isn't the first time post counts have decreased, and probably won't be the last. The last time it happened was because they made news posts not count towards your post count, and I can only assume something similar happened to make the most recent change happen.

But again, what does it matter?

I get the feeling posts in the blog section were counting for the total, when they are meant not to. So they may have disabled the post count there, bringing the numbers down.

Blog Post comments haven't counted towards your Post total for a looooooooooooooooong time.
