Wii U - Nintendo's Next Console

Everything about the Wii and its games...

My thoughts on that? They'll (maybe) roll out the next major Zelda, or perhaps even the next big 3D Mario title (either of which will undoubtedly be mind blowing), to counter balance such things in 2013.

A new Mario would be better to counterbalance in 2013.

One other concern I have is the controller. Nintendo's main launch game for a system usually is done to show off the new controller. I don't think Super Mario 4 or New Super Mario Bros. Mii could really show it off all that well to say 'hey, this game could only be done on Wii U.' Screen Switching technology is neat and all, but it's not something that is needed to make the game stand out.

I'm sure they will have some tech demo game pre installed.

But my point still stands.

The N64 had Super Mario 64 for the Controller.
The Wii had Twilight Princess for waggle and IR controls.

What will Wii U have for the 'DS like home experience for the hardcore crowd?'

Yeah I get what your saying, even Gamecube had Luigis Mansion which did a pretty good job showing off the controllers functions (camera stick and analog shoulder buttons).
Even going all the back to the NES, Nintendo has done this with Super Mario/Duck Hunt pack in game. My NES has ROB and the Light gun, so it has Duck Hunt and Gyromite.
Actually, I'd say Wii Sports was more to show off the Wii controls than Twilight Princess.
They could go the route they did with the 3DS built in applications to show off the new controller. Like AR games, Face Raiders and Mii Streetpass Plaza.

That's a tough call, really. For the casuals you have that tech demo pirate game, but for the hardcore Nintendo does not really have a franchise that can make someone jump out of their seats when it comes to the features of the controller it seems.Because it seems more like a home console version of the 3DS with the info released by Nintendo.

The best answer right now is wait for the investors meeting and see if anything comes out of that. Personally I am hoping for some information on the NFC functions because I believe RMC said it on an episode of the podcast months ago that Nintendo could release a Pokemon game like Skylanders: Spyro's Adventure with figures of every Pokemon with the old marketing slogan " Gotta catch em' all" little kids will go crazy and parents will be broke.

Also I know RMC did not go into full detail about that idea on the podcast I just expanded it into something that can possibly happen.

My guess, would be something like Wii Sports. Not neccisarily a sports game, but something that does what Wii Sports did to show off the features of the controller. As much as having a Zelda at launch probably helped the Wii, let's be honest....Wii Sports is the game that moved cajillions of units. I expect nothing less than Nintendo having some sort of game along those lines ready to show off what Wii U is all about. Mario is just icing on the cake.

9. Forecasted sales units of Nintendo 3DS software and Wii U software contained in Wii software include the quantity of the packaged software by means of digital distribution.

Other parts of their financial report points at full retail titles being sold digitaly as well.

Furthermore, for the purposes of adapting to the changes in the environment surrounding the video game market and creating new business opportunities, Nintendo is envisioning the digital distribution of packaged software and is aiming at expanding the digital business

Nintendo still lost some money, so Im expecting some wiiu announcements from the meeting

If this Mario game for Wii U is coming out this year, I fully expect Iwata to say so today.

I want a traditional Pokemon game on the home console! I've loved Pokemon seen Red and Blue came out in 1998.

I feel really old.

Investors care only about money, some of them dont even know about videogames at all  , and Mario makes the biggest hardware and software sales besides the wii_____ series. It wont satisfy the investors that want mario on the applestore, but should be enough coupled with more info on their digital and WiiU strategy.

I presume it might be super Mario bros 4 coupled with NIN info , with the talk of selling 70 million softwere I'm sure they will outline wii u's online stretgey and revenue streams to please investers.

Have you tried Pokemon Colosseum or XD: Gale of Darkness? Of all the console Pokemon games, they're probably most like traditional handhelds.

Anyway, I heard that Game Freak doesn't plan on having the main series on anything other than handhelds, but maybe the Wii U will help to bridge the gap between console and handheld games with its controller.

So if nintendo is planing on digital sales of retail games, does this mean a HD in the wiiu? I mean, 8 or 16GB of NAND(what I'm guessing they will do for onboard storage) isn't really enough space to seriously support it. And an external solution isn't something you can rely on the majority of the install base having.

Actually genius seniorty are responsabl for the home consol entrys , game freak don't want to involve themselves in home consol devolpment so that's the reson you don't have games like rad and blue at home consoles .

Well of course it's more then enough for the casule consumer but keep in mind that the wii u is capable of using USB ,extrnel hard drive,sd cards, all not first party and cheep comperd to the 360 hard drives, and actually it's batter becuse you may already have one or find one cheep unlike sony's mathod where you are forced to pay exorbint costs for proprity mamroy cards which Sony is the one begining to cheepen out unlike nintendos mathod whis is much batter.

one, they are using 25GB discs. so a single title that uses half that, and you've already filled up your on board storage. I know they can use external hard drives, but that's just a pain. Sony's storage on the PS3 uses standard laptop harddrives, the best solution for consoles, imo.

Also, noticed they expect to sell 10 millions of either wiis or wiius until the first quarter of 2013. Considering the wii is getting some big/middle tier games (Dragon Quest X, the OpRainfall games, Project Zero 2, maybe Black Ops 2, NPCPikmin2), and considering wii will have 9 extra months than WiiU until the end of FY13, It doesnt seem like they expect lots of wiiu sales for the semester (and Wii sold 9 millions last year with almost NOTHING until Zelda) :? .

it's probably more based on how many wiiu they think they can get into the retail channel between nov and april

But what about installs? It's batter if they went and used USB3.0 it has more then 2 TB and did you hear that it is almost faster then the blue Ray runs on the disc so if you install the game it will be much faster and as much as ralibel as flash mamory but here is the gist , it seems nintendo will not support this format=(

Harddrives will generally be faster than optical drives. and If I know nintendo they will use slow flash memory for their internal storage. not the superfast kind you see in solid state drives.

Agreed , But there is a turn awey aginst this ;) , if IF they make nintendo branded HDDs they can optmaize it for perfect conditions of the wii u s speed but I doubt nintendo will do this :( .
