Coming from Nintendo Power...

I feel absolutely terrible about this. A few days back, a reader sent me an email saying that their computer at work listed Pikmin for a release. I joked with him, saying that we were finally getting NPC: Pikmin 2 in the states. Turns out my joke was spot on! I should have posted while I had the chance! Thanks to all that sent this in.

this just seems to useless, releasing a last gen port this late in the consoles life is just...odd, but whatever.

Cool, it will be nice to finally be able to get this game without spending $60-$70 or more for a used copy. Why in the world did they wait this long to release this in the U.S., though? Was it just that there was a software drought and they needed something to conveniently fill a gap?

New Play Control: Pikmin 2 finally coming to North America

Postby ryan82 » 24 Apr 2012 13:46

It only took them 3 years for this to happen. At this rate, we'll get Captain Rainbow and Fatal Frame 4 next year sometime.

Passive aggressiveness aside, I'm happy for the fans that wanted this game to come out in NA. I'm not a big Pikmin fan myself, but it's always nice to see fans get what they want.

Seems like a good idea to release it here to prepare people for Pikmin 3. :)

New Play Control: Pikmin 2 finally coming to North America

Postby MoldyClay » 24 Apr 2012 13:55

I saw Josh/WiiFolder/BitBlock post this and flailed and posted it on Facebook because it blew my mind.

This was the only NPC! game I was looking forward to (besides MP Trilogy, but I missed that; OOPS), since I never experienced it on Gamecube and all the GCN copies were like $40 at Gamestop. And by all, I mean, I rarely saw it.

Stoked. And can't believe it either. 3 years later? Whoa. Too bad this doesn't necessarily mean other old games *cough*DISASTER*cough* will be brought over too, it's probably just to promote Pikmin 3, but that's really cool.

@motherbra1n

All the NPC! games are useless, but this game is at least hard to find if you skipped it during the Gamecube's life span. Especially with most Gamestops dropping Gamecube games.

For me, personally, the closest one that has it is 40+ miles away and all of them say LOW STOCK meaning they have probably only one copy, maybe.

And the game is $40. Used.

On eBay it goes for $40-$50 for used and over $180 for new copies.

Amazon has the game for $50 used and $150 new.

So it's not entirely useless. It's an affordable, NEW copy of the game for $20-30 (I think the old NPC! games were $30 when they came out?).

It's also a marketing tool for when Pikmin 3 is shown at E3 and probably a launch/near-launch title.

Miyamoto will show of Pikmin Wii U and Reggie will be like "But you don't have to wait to experience Pikmin in your homes until this fall. We will also be releasing, on the Nintendo Wii, a new way to play PIKMIN 2... *this* month" (or give a real date).

New Play Control: Pikmin 2 finally coming to North America

Postby IxisNaugus » 24 Apr 2012 13:57

Now? NOW they decide to bring it to NA!? And where the hell was it all those years ago? Jeez. I really don't understand NoA. But hell, no use venting about it now. I'm not sure how many people are still interested in this, but I suppose giving Pikmin a bit more exposure right before Pikmin 3 isn't a bad idea. Hope they play their cards right and make it budget priced or a lot of people are sure to pass and wait for the sequel.

Just what I think. ^^ They probably want more people to know about, and play, the earlier Pikmin. Thus, the NPC ones. ^^
Though, I won't get any NPC Pikmin (already have them on the Cube), but I WILL get Pikmin 3.

I bought a GC copy new from Sears for $8, then got money back when the price dropped to $4 two weeks later.
Of course, I traded it for Star Fox Adventures. It cost me neary $40 to get it back in my collection.

I will buy theNPC version.

@IxisNaugus

At worst, it'll be $30.

But I hope Nintendo realizes that that is precisely (or most likely) why people didn't really buy the NPC! games and they sell it for $20.

Although I guess since most people wanted *this* one, they could get away with $30. Haha.

Makes sense as it means every Pikmin game can be played on the Wii U.
I bet there'll be a trilogy box set too at some point.

And it only took them three years to do so!

But really, talk about a summer drought for the Wii (minus The Last Story) if they're finally bringing this one over lol.
Just be nice. Or else.

New Play Control: Pikmin 2 finally coming to North America

Postby PixelPunkGamer » 24 Apr 2012 14:23

They are probably doing this for kids who played Pikmin for the 1st time on Wii and they never heard of Pikmin 2. So younger fans won't get confused when they announce Pikmin 3 and they will be like "What happened to Pikmin 2?"

Nintendo announces X, Y, Z title for localization.

"Isn't it a little late for that now?"

Better late than never I guess. I'll be getting this for sure though either way (assuming it's $30 or under)

Three years is a rather ridiculous/absurd wait for a game to be (announced to be) localized, especially out of nowhere at the end of the console you're releasing it on's lifespan, you guys don't have to get all cranky over people pointing that out.
