TheLastBlade wrote:- Majora's Mask > Ocarina of Time: Now for the record I have NOT played Majora's Mask ever in my entire life (yet) so I can't form a proper opinion on this particular subject. However, whenever I go on a website somewhere and state my love for Ocarina of Time, some random spontzes came up to me and say, "Nah, Majora's Mask is better." To which I state, "Huh, well I'll try to play it whenever I get the chance." And you know what happened? They said, "What? Well no wonder you haven't played Majora's Mask. You're to busy worshiping overrated garbage." To which I state, "Well ok I guess... I said I didn't even play Majora's Mask yet." And then this comment really grinds my gears, "Yeah yeah, good luck dying with Overrated of Time. While the true gamers play the real BEST GAME OF ALL TIME." ... Seriously? People keep telling me that people that loves Ocarina of Time have snide remarks on saying that it's better than any game created before and after (Actually that can be a true fact). But having being told I suck because I did not play (which I didn't) or like a certain game, really makes me think they're hypocritical. And you know what? This wasn't exclusive with me either. I have seen Majora's Mask fans picking on Ocarina of Time fans stating said statements to them. Well thanks a lot for going out of your way to make everyone feel bad. To be fair, Ocarina of Time also has the ego of Ganondorf in which they're the king of everything.
That is idiotic.
I think Majora's Mask *is* better than Ocarina of Time, for various reasons, but I can also see how someone could not enjoy the game. The only time I belittle someone for preferring OoT is when it's a blind nostalgia love where they go "OOT IS THE BEST GAME EVER AND IT CAN NEVER BE BEAT".
Preferring Majora's Mask is all about taste and what you're looking for in a game. For example, I love the game Deadly Premonition. For the same reasons as MM (and now Xenoblade). Has to do with the atmosphere and the small details to everything with the characters, the world and everything in it. Coincidentally, all of these games have characters that run on schedules.
But I can see why people wouldn't like them. I only get pissed when someone blatantly didn't give them a chance and are just putting it down.
Having said that, the types of fans that piss me off:
- Anime fangirls and to a lesser extent, fanboys. This really extends to everything Japanese. Jpop, Jrock, anime, manga, subs, etc. I love anime and I like a bit of Japanese music and sometimes I prefer Japanese voices, but the fanbase in general (pick a series or musician and my feelings are the same) is absurd. A bunch of English speaking tools and crazies acting like Japan is their long-lost motherland that they worship. And the whole dubs/subs thing. Japanese voice actors are not magically superior just because they made the anime. Some Japanese voices and deliveries feel just as bad sounding or worse than what we get with our dubs.
And the reason fangirls are worse is because they ruin everything with yaoi.
- Console fanboys. Specifically, blind ones. Sony, Microsoft and Nintendo are companies. They have no loyalty to us, just our money. There is no reason someone should be restricting themselves to *one* console based on who made it. If it's an issue of money, sure, but don't avoid buying another console because "Oh, Sony/MS are the devil". And then they damage control missing out on great games with stuff like "oh, game's trash anyway". Get out of here.
I feel like Nintendo fanboys are the worst, but it's probably because I see them the most. The things that they get mad about are insane.
Also, evidently, if you say something positive about a competitor, you're the enemy. I can't express how often on this site in the past I was labeled a "troll" that "hates Nintendo" simply because I was unhappy with their decisions in things. Or didn't like a game or two. Or because I own a 360. Despite the fact that I own pretty much every big Nintendo release on Wii and a bunch of great 3rd parties and own every Nintendo console except Virtual Boy and 3DS (but I have a fund set aside specifically for getting one). Oh, and a majority of my favorite games/series are Nintendo ones. Yeah okay.
- Miyamoto fanboys. I love Miyamoto. I love most of his games. But he's not some Saint that does no wrong and all his ideas are perfect and innovative. Especially not anymore. I feel like he's just recycling stuff and shoving his hands in everything and ignoring others' creative freedom. He barely gives anyone else a chance to do anything without coming in and messing everything up or doing things *his* way. Back off. You made Wii Music and rehashed Nintendogs. You are not bringing your A game anymore, bro. People need to stop putting him on a pedestal.
- Pretty much every fanbase, for everything. Like with anime, some of the same reasons fall into place here. Another thing is the fact that if you don't like someone's favorite game, you're an idiot or a troll. I don't understand how a fanboy's mind works.
GAME DIDN'T GET A PERFECT 10 BUT GAVE THIS GAME ON HD CONSOLES A 10? ? REVIEWER HATES NINTENDO. CAN'T TAKE THEM SERIOUSLY.
DON'T LIKE THIS GAME FOR 'LEGITIMATE' REASONS? YOU'RE A TROLL AND AN HD FANBOY.
And so on and so forth, making up excuses instead of just accepting that lol people have opinions and yours is not the "right one".
On a side note, I used to have a Link avatar here, which was solely because I made a texture for Brawl and needed a pic and it was readily available. I was talking about something and must have been defending Zelda or something in an argument on GoNintendo's comments section somewhere.
Someone actually told me that my opinion was irrelevant because I was a "Zelda fanboy" due to my avatar and that I had to shut up.
Really? Because of my avatar? And yes, I am a huge Zelda fan, but what? Pff..
Oh, I also hate Indie Game fanboys. I like a lot of Indie games, like Machinarium, Cave Story, Limbo, FEZ, VVVVVV, Tower of Heaven, etc, but don't get all hipster on me for not appreciating every artsy fartsy title that comes out like I have some kind of inferior taste in games for not really liking Braid (I love the concept and story, but it's not very fun to me, and didn't hold my attention beyond "this is a cool gimmick"; Meanwhile I spent an entire afternoon playing Machinarium, unable to stop) or for thinking that Cave Story is not worth $40 when you could buy it for $10 (this was something I argued about when the 3DS retail game wasn't out yet).
I also do not think MINECRAFT is worth $20 on XBLA. I can't justify paying $20 for what essentially amounts to a virtual LEGO set of THE HATCHET. Especially if it is intangible. But that's just me. I don't want to be spammed with hate over not hiveminding. God forbid.
And a lot of Indie games just aren't that good. Art fart all you want, if it isn't fun, it's a bad game. I appreciate games being 'art', but they are games first and foremost.
Just like I love (and prefer) my games to have good stories and cutscenes and character development, but I am buying a game. I want a fun game.
