No kidding. The game graphics are just so generic that the charm is gone. At least with the old-school sprites we could imagine the game to be as beautiful as this cover.

Yeah, that's my gripe with this cover. If this version of the game had 16-bit graphics, then this would be amazing and would recall the old-school box arts of those times where the boxart was everything we knew about the game.

But Cave Story 3D HAS 3D graphics. In fact, it's the same exact graphics as the Western cover. So this one is beautiful, but it's lying, and the other is not-as-pretty, but truthful.

... I dunno which one's best, though. Maybe this cover will make the game sell more?

Unfortunately, I don't even see a reason in this coming out anymore, with the eShop update/version coming.

The only people who will buy it are diehard fans of the game that need to have multiple copies of a free game, and pay for them all.

Having said that, I wish the game actually looked like that. I'd be interested in getting the 3DS version.

Man, the game would've looked great if the aesthetic were more like that. I don't know why more platformers don't just adopt the whole hand-drawn approach like Wario Land Shake, Rayman Origins, Super Tempo etc. did. It pretty much always results in something gorgeous.

Fantastic boxart! I'm not sure why they didn't just bring the game to the eShop in the first place though, it isn't worth $40 in my opinion. A great $10 game though.

Don't get me wrong, Cave Story 3D has some very pretty environments, but everything else looked basically awful. It's such a shame, really.
