Predict NSMB2's eShop Price

Postby KingBroly » 26 Apr 2012 23:52

Let's keep in mind that the game will retail for $40 almost everywhere.

This is also for the DIRECT PRICING on the eShop, and not pricing from stores through cards.

There was no option for $39.99 so I voted for $35. :P

I'm not going to buy the digital version because I like owning a physical copy, but I'd say $30 ($35 seems possible too). They don't want to sell it too low, but it does save them money on packaging, shipping, and the cost of the game card itself.

@Koopazilla

I completely agree. Having the physical version of anything is better than just a digital copy, in my opinion. That said, I voted $30. Is this game even going to be sold digitally?

Yes. It was announced earlier tonight. Along with all Wii U retail games being available digitally on Day 1.

Assuming that the physical copy is $40, I'm gonna say that it will be $35 (or possibly $30). The reason, why I think it will be around $5 cheaper is because of the way they're approaching it (involving retailers and such). It will be difficult to competitively price it with the physical version when there are more hands dipping into the digital price then normal.

but here is the thing people outside of the US cant buy the game at release date and it offers more convenience to have it on your 3ds at all times and not to mention downloadable games are faster then the game card and maybe even cheaper but your right physical media is a lot batter when you hold between your hands .

I agree with the other guy that says it's going to be the same price as the retail version. So I voted for the $40 or more since $39.99 is basically $40. (It would have really helped if there was a $39.99 option)

Which is why I was upset that there was no $39.99 option, as that is the suggested retail price for 3DS games. I would have rounded up to $40, but they are not going to charge more on the eShop than they are charging at retail stores. Yup, that one penny makes all the difference.

If the eShop version gets priced lower than the MSRP for the retail game, I'll eat a fish. Since I'm a vegetarian, that's a big deal.

yeah, if you buy a download code from best buy or gamestop. but if you buy from the eshop--from nintendo directly--you can bet there will be a total of 0% discount as always.

that's what this thread is about, predicting what will nintendo charge for it, not what the variable pricing individual retailers can set. see: OP.

39.99 this doesn't count as prediction. we all know exactly what it is going to cost.

eeyup. This is the same company whose first party titles always hang around at full price for ever. Go into any best buy and look for any brand new retail copy of a major first party nintendo franchise and you'll see they're all still the same price tag they've had since day one. :/ kinda disconcerting when you think about it. Wonder if the eshop will ever see fit to have sales like live and psn???

Not sure if joking, but yes, nintendo is greedy. They are the kings of overcharging. They sell NES roms for 5 dollars ffs. They never have sales, they were so greedy and so full of themselves they don't let companies set their own prices on their digital stores (and probably not for discs either, but never asked anyone about that).

$39.99. I'm in the camp that thinks it'll be the same price as packaged software...or right around it. Just like we've seen at times on other systems.

They don't want to piss off their retail partners who they still need to carry the games. You guys can play the Nintendo is greedy card all you want (and honestly, which company isn't?), but the number 1 reason for pricing will be to keep retailers happy and to make sure that relationship doesn't sour because of their digital initiative. Making a bigger profit plays into, I'm sure, but I don't think it is the number 1 reason we won't see drastically lower DD prices is all I'm saying.

(Also, I'm not trying to defend Nintendo against allegations of greed, because, like I stated: All companies are "greedy." Every single one of them is out to make money. If this comes as a shock to you, you have a very naive view of the world.)

gtt wrote:Not sure if joking, but yes, nintendo is greedy. They are the kings of overcharging.

Apparently you have never owned an Apple product.

gtt wrote:They never have sales

I don't like this either. Whenever I take a CN survey for an eShop game, I always answer the "what will make you come back to the eShop again?" question the same: Sales and Promos.

gtt wrote:they were so greedy and so full of themselves they don't let companies set their own prices on their digital stores (and probably not for discs either, but never asked anyone about that).

I have no idea what you are even saying here. It is a widely known fact that Nintendo sets the prices for their digital services. The developers who make games for their services know. Gamers know. It isn't a secret, so I'm not sure why we can't "ask anyone about that." (Other than that you always have something to whine/complain/be constantly negative about.)

As for retail discs, RETAILERS set the price they sell the game for. The only guidance Nintendo or 3rd Party publishers give is an MSRP. That is exactly as it sounds...a SUGGESTED price. In the end, it's up to the retailer themselves to give it a price-point.
