RUMOR - Wii U gets StreetPass action?

This is an awfully strange rumor, but it would be pretty cool to see it happen. Word on the street is that the Wii U is going to come with some sort of low-rez, pocket-friendly device that you can carry with you wherever you go. This little device will let you StreetPass your Wii U activity and profile. Then when you get back home, you can drop that info to your Wii U to see who you've met with.

Like I said, crazy idea but pretty interesting as well. You have to love weekend rumors!

I can't see this happening; the cost of the device simply wouldn't be worth it, particularly when much of their demographic already has a device that could do this: the 3DS.

What if the 3DS wirelessly and seamlessly synced with the Wii U whenever they were close by, placing Wii U StreetPass directly games on the 3DS and then retrieving that information when you got home.

I think this makes the most sense, plus I really don't want to carry two devices.

This doesn't make any sense. I think the 3DS will be your streetpass device for WiiU. They will share information all the time with each other.

I love the idea, hope it's true!

THis "gamer card" could also be used for NFC-related stuff like buying game stuff (DLC codes, etc) in a store and then just swiping your gamer card against the Wii U controller and it starts downloading!

Also, bringing your profile data with you.

PLEASE let this be actually true!

The best way that this could work would be an app for the 3DS for those who have it and an NFC Dreamcast-like VMU thing for those without a 3DS that would interact with one another.

3DS plz. Carry the 3DS, get stuff, bring it near Wii U, stuff transfers. Everybody's happy.

I have rarely ever called Nintendo stupid, but if they expect us to carry around a 3DS, our phones AND some Wii U pokewalker thing? That would be a sign of stupidity.

I suggested this idea when I first say the Nintendo WiiU last E3, but I suggested they incorporate StreetPass into a WiiU Remote (new motion wand, which I'm still hoping for) but I guess this would work too if legit. Also, am I the only one who would love to an E-Reader on the WiiU Tablet?

If this "device" is the size of a credit card and can just fit in your wallet, then I don't see anything wrong with it. Then Nintendo could just add a little card reader onto the front of the Wii U and it would seem to be a pretty good idea.

This doesn't sound likely at all. It makes more to sense to use the 3ds for this like everybody else said.

@Legend of Santiago Since streetpass isn't required, just an extra feature, they could just use this as an extra incentive to get people to buy a 3ds.

I love StreetPass as well. Genius idea if they incorporate Wii U game data for StreetPass with a 3DS app. Genius.

Because not every person that will buy the Wii U will have a 3DS. So, in this way everyone can have the possibility of enoying the Street Pass feature
