Nintendo 3DS Gets a Royal New Color on May 20: Midnight Purple

Just as lilacs and hyacinth bloom throughout the spring, so too a new color is blooming for the Nintendo 3DS system. Midnight Purple gives the hand-held a royal new look. The new color will launch May 20, the same day Mario Tennis Open becomes available.

The Midnight Purple Nintendo 3DS, offered at a suggested retail price of $169.99 in the United States, becomes the fifth color in the always-stylish Nintendo 3DS color palette, joining Cosmo Black, Aqua Blue, Flame Red and Pearl Pink. Now fans have another option to customize the look of their systems to suit their individual styles and personalities.

Nintendo 3DS lets users enjoy games and videos in 3D without the use of special glasses. Mario Tennis Open adds to the strong library of Nintendo 3DS games, which also includes Super Mario 3D Land, Kid Icarus: Uprising and Spirit Camera: The Cursed Memoir. Fans also can check out 3D videos on Nintendo Video and access new and classic downloadable games in the Nintendo eShop.

New best colour in the US. Cobalt Blue is still the best internationally, though. It's interesting that they're choosing to coincide the release of this colour with Mario Tennis, but seemingly not making a bundle available.

I wonder why NoA choose not to release Ice White or Cobalt Blue? I wonder know with the upcoming release of Midnight Purple if or when North America is going to get the Ice White 3DS.

I'll trade you Purple for White However I do like the Midnight Purple cause it seems like its a darker shade of Purple.

@MasterofMonster I think the two that they put out at launch are easily the worst two. Colour is subjective, so I can't possibly think everyone agrees, but it makes me feel like Nintendo has an evil agenda in withholding the good colours.

Yeah, I guess you're right. But is annoyes me a little how Black and White are the only colors used nowdasy. Well, Blue 3DS was used, and while it's beautiful, it's not enough. ;_;

Not that I mind much, I love my Blue one.

They should at least allow a greater choice of colors for a limited time so first adopters and those who wish to buy a certain color have that choice instead of ambassador black and blue, etc... I'm fortunate that I actually like black electronics, but others? They like options.
