Yahoo! takes negative stance on Wii U

I swear, these are just like the articles that came out prior to the Wii launch. How quickly people fall back into their old routines.

Yahoo!'s latest article, entitled 'Growing doubts over Nintendo’s upcoming Wii U console', is the latest in doom-and-gloom reporting concerning the Big N. Let's ignore the fact that the article's author hasn't heard the confirmation of Smash Bros. on the Wii, and instead we'll focus in on the negativity in general. Hit up the article and give it it a read, if you think you can stomach it!

Article here (thanks Chris!)

Yahoo! takes negative stance on Wii U

Postby thegreatscp » 30 Apr 2012 16:52

"the fact that the video showed just one player using the new tablet controller — while the rest of the players were left with what looks like standard Wii remotes — gave social network users plenty to groan about."

What on earth do social network users have to do with Wii Remotes and the new controller? These apocalypse scenarios about the end of home consoles is getting so out of hand. It's just laughable at this point.

Yahoo! takes negative stance on Wii U

Postby MagmaBeatles » 30 Apr 2012 16:57

The complaint is valid, but with how little information we know about the console, releasing an article such as this one makes little sense.

HEre we go again.... OK. We still don't know enough about the U that we can actually write such an article. Are people despererate now?

Let's just wait and see what they do at E3 and we can finally see the games in motion (pun intended).

Nintendo's seemingly unshakable habit of rehashing games and characters from bygone eras doesn't appear to be slowing down with the Wii U.

Uuuahhh?!??! Are you serious man?! Making new Mario and Zelda games is now a bad thing?

Of the entire article, I believe this statement was the poorest display of word choice. And brain choice...

All this disappointment in the article looks to be the problem of them not knowing much of anything of what the Wii U will offer.

They should just wait until E3 like the rest of us.

Yahoo! takes negative stance on Wii U

"Core gamers are the players who ensure each new iteration of Call of Duty and Madden continue to break records"

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!

"Nintendo's seemingly unshakable habit of rehashing games and characters from bygone eras doesn't appear to be slowing down with the Wii U."
yeah they need to make a creative new ip, like resistance or killzone, cos as we all know new ip automatically means unique and innovative (though I'll give sony credit for little big planet) and that all games in the same franchise are always rehashes of each other as shown by metroid prime, kid icarus uprising, skyward sword, metroid other m, kirbys epic yarn and paper mario.

"rather grim launch figures of the new 3DS handheld"

FYI

1) The 3ds is the number 1 selling system in the world

2) 17 million units sold in 1 year would put it ahead of any other nintendo system

3) The software sales would also put it ahead

Yahoo! takes negative stance on Wii U

Postby HammerGalladeBro » 30 Apr 2012 17:08

@motherbra1n
LOL, if that's what they define as "core", then, I'm glad I'm not that core, at least for them.
Also.
"Nintendo's seemingly unshakable habit of rehashing games and characters from bygone eras doesn't appear to be slowing down with the Wii U."
If that's the case, then where are my rehashed Wild Gunman, Clu Clu Land, Wrecking Crew, Duck Hunt, StarTropics, Gyromite, Stack-Up, Mach Rider? among many others.

As far as "doom and gloom" pieces go, this one wasn't too unreasonable. I think some of those concerns are ones that I share. But I don't know if that justifies the existence of the article, after all there's concern before EVERY new console.

Seriously. You could catch up on all of the Wii U information in 10 minutes, easily. This is bad journalism.

Yahoo! takes negative stance on Wii U

Postby NeroSuferoth » 30 Apr 2012 17:15

"Both the Mario and the Pikmin franchise have already been confirmed for the system, and if we were betting on it, we'd put money on there being Zelda, Super Smash Brothers, and Mario Party titles in the Wii U's future as well. Unfortunately, that may not be enough to get seasoned gamers to plop down another $250 or more on a console whose predecessor had little to no third-party support to speak of."

He's hit the nail on the head there.

Yahoo! takes negative stance on Wii U

Postby motherbra1n » 30 Apr 2012 17:25

other than those 2 stupid points made, I don't think the article was that bad. I agree with the point made about gamers having no trust in third parties when it comes to nintendo. The Wii U MUST have a very good third party lineup at E3, and there need to be at least 2-3 big games that are exclusive to the Wii U, at least until the next xbox and ps4 come along.

It's just a case of whether or not third parties will support nintendo, which I don't think they will...

It's way too late for these kinds of articles to be coming out, seeing as how all the definite info we know about the wii u comes from last E3. The fact that they're just now getting around to shouting "DOOOOOOOOOOOM!" just serves to show that the article's of really bad quality.

So far it looks good with third parties. Not excellent, but pretty good. As long as they make original material as they did on the Wii (MadWorld, Red Steel 2, NMH etc) I'm very happy. So many pearls on the Wii. Sadly people don't play them. Their loss!

Ahahaha.. and yahoo questions why they are losing money? Maybe they should write an article about how they are losing money instead before questioning another company, especially one like Nintendo.
