Nicalis clarifies Wii U power comments, gives details on Cave Story+ for eShop

"Sadly, the original quote was taken a bit out of context. Here's exactly what I meant: for what we need, and maybe for other developers, the Wii U's [capabilities] are more than sufficient for five to ten years. We're not making AAA games or using a crazy insane 3D engine, but the Wii U can definitely do both. With that said, for what we are doing, we could work on the Wii U easily for another five years without making it break a sweat. We don't do massive productions." - Tyrone Rodriguez, Nicalis

While that might not be the kind of news you want to hear about Wii U, I wouldn't say it's a negative. If you are upset with that, let's get you some news on the upcoming eShop release of Cave Story+.

- 4:3 and widescreen modes
- option to flip the jump buttons
- almost all the modes from Cave Story+ on Steam
- touchscreen support for the Sub menu
- 3D and depth being tweaked
- not the same music or HD art as Cave Story+ on Steam

Well, no **** you could, Nicalis.

All you do is port for profit free indie games that wouldn't look out of place on the SNES.

You could probably work with a Dreamcast for 10 years without breaking a sweat.

A shame about the lack of HD art, but I guess it would look ugly shrunk down to the 3DS's resolution. Still, it'll be nice to have the original Cave Story fitted to the 3DS screen resolution. Now I won't have to decide between tiny or blurry with the DSiWare version.

I guess they could just skip the European DSiWare version… I mean, we still don't have the game, and it seems pointless to have it now.

Unless DSi owners will still be all in for DSiWare content in the near future.

I love cave story, too, but the 3DS version is ultimate in my mind. I doubt I could be very competitive with online leader boards anyways.

What about people who bought the retail version? I thought it (Cave Story+) was DLC....

I hope it's the complete version this time.

So does the DSiWare version update to 3DSWare version? Meaning that it can be played and saved from an SD card? And that I have more free space for DSiWare?

I'm almost positive the DSiWare version isn't going to "upgrade" into the eShop version; they'd be too many hurdles to jump t through since it's even though it's on the eShop, it's still just a regular DS game. I think that was just a mistranslation. I mean, they could probably look and see who has the DSiWare version tied to their eShop account and let them download the eShop version free, but they won't make any money that way  .

edit: from the article itself:
"Even if you bought the prior version of the game on the DSiWare shop, you'll have to pick it up again if you want this enhanced, remade, 3D version. Per Tyrone: "So, it won't be a free update, unfortunately. I fought really hard to try to get it to be just a 'simple' update; I feel that Nintendo wanted the same thing too, but the logistics behind it are pretty huge."

Wii U will be the best console until Nintendo will launch it's successor in 2017-2018.

When I think about what Wii U can do, than I'm immediatly convinced that the concept of playing together with awesome multiplayer fun with up to 5 Players at once and the ability to play your favorite games without the big TV-Screen, maybe even in your bed, the tablet controller will own everything.

It's the broad functionality which brings so much more possibilities to the DEVs. From little freaky games to epic master pieces, everything fits to Wii U.

Best regards!

McDaniel-77

P.S.: The Wii U will be the PC of the consoles - gameswise.
