"We are currently preparing a program for third parties but have nothing specific to announce at this time." - Nintendo rep

Am I in another world? Is this the same Nintendo that released the Wii and 3DS? Talk about really taking some initiative in the online world! Thanks to Dim for the heads up.

Guess they heard our cries. Although /me wonders if and how our Wii VC/Wiiware will transfer to the new console.

i love how they are changing. But there's still one BIG BIG issue that they have yet to address: ACCOUNTS!

Now that digital releases are coming out, having an account with all your games on it is becoming more important than ever such as a Steam account. Imagine buying a lot of games on the 3ds and then that 3ds breaks. You lose all your games. Digital games/apps are tied to a particular system. I'm planning to buy a midnight purple 3ds soon, but then I'm gonna have to transfer everything over from my black 3ds instead of just having a simple single account. This also makes some people buy the same game multiple time just so they can have the game on a specific platform.

They already said accounts were coming. I want to see third parties being able to offer free stuff. I remember Love Plus needed you to pay to transfer Ds data to it.
I loved, i lost, and i saw boobies. what more can a man ask for?

agreed. to me this is all for naught if they don't go to an account system. they already have it actually, when you associate your system with a club nintendo account, it knows what digital games you have and adds them to club nintendo. They need be more like Valve is with steam and less like, well, themselves. Physical copies should also net you a digital copy, etc.

Digital/cloud based accounts. We dont/didnt know if these accounts will be tied to one particular system or if we can transfer our accounts over a replacement system.

Reminder: This is also the same Nintendo who said they wanted the Wii Shop Channel to be like iTunes for video games. Making it easy for smaller shops to make games.

We all know how that turned out.

Right now, this is all talk. I'll save judgement until I see some results.

Check out the E3 press conference the year the Wii was released. Fast forward to the part where Iwata was talking. I think it was right before he talked about WiiConnect24.

Well Wii U is just a newer version of the Wii, according to analysts. So Iwata's not wrong.

Nintendo preparing third parties for digital downloads on Wi

Postby MoldyClay » 30 Apr 2012 21:44

Need an account system, cross platform and working on the browser like Xbox Live.

And I want to be able transfer from my Wii to the Wii U.

Honestly, I have no interest in downloading retail games to the Wii U unless it has a humongous harddrive. I hate spending more than $15 on any single digital good (and even then, depends). I'm not going to buy a $30-40 game I don't physically own, that's for sure.

It's cool for people who do care, but I only like the smaller digital downloads and that jazz. On the 360, I only buy XBLA games and DLC. Never "Games on Demand", nor do I install on the HDD.

But that's just me.

@KingBroly

In what world would a Wii U game be 30GB?

Totally agree, hopefully we get that info at e3.

Me either, that's why they are not going to stop releasing the games physically. They are targeting people who either travel or don't care about ownership of their goods to sell later on and are happy with just a license to data.

Why don't you install games? It reduces load times on most games, reduces heat, less noise, and wear on the disc drive in the long term.

Wii U game in the 30GB range? ... Hmm FF13 PORT?? I can see it happening.

I once asked a developer friend why that is. they told me that the network drivers nintendo uses are just awful, like mind bogglingly bad.

@ddddd Yep, the same guy told me that they are looking into options of a unified account. Whether he is lying is yet to be seen but i heard a similar thing from another website and he has been right once or twice before. He Nintendo contemplating HD for the tablet before we found that Nintendo was actually thinking about it. Take it with a grain of salt because he could just be very luck at predicting things. From what he told me they are planing on using Club Nintendo but they are looking at their options to see if there is anything better
