i actually agree with pachter..... somewhat.... i think 299.99 is the top they can charge.... they NEED to compete with the current gen console pricing.... 249.99 would be the IDEAL price but they might be able to get away with 299.99 because of the "new factor"

If the titles and online are there day one with real 3rd party commitments, then I'll probably move back in to the day one camp.

$350 is still on the cheap side for a higher end electronic these days.

$350 means it's still affordable, but also expensive enough to have up to date impressive horse power and features.

That's way too much If we're talking current gen graphics. Nintendo has to impress me if they ask for that much.

actually pachter said that if they are a dollar over 250 they are toast, then says actually I think they're toast anyway.

@TheBitBlock

that's what I was thinking, but I'm sure it'll be about $300/£250

Exactly. People say they want Nintendo to be up to date in terms of raw power for their console, but the same people will complain that the cost of that console is too much money. It doesn't make sense to me... It is not like Nintendo can magically make things cheaper.

@TheBitBlock

I agree. If anything this should be promising news to the people doubting Wii U's hardware capabilities for next gen. If Nintendo really did just use that old of hardware they would have this thing priced at $250 in a heartbeat, especially with the economy the way it is. This means like you said that Nintendo has some impressive tech in the machine that costs money.

To everybody else

$350 seems reasonable to me. Lets all wait until E3 to debate whether its worth it or not. You never know we could see Project C.A.R.S. running on high res settings with all of OpenGL's bells and whistles on Wii U and everybody on here change their tune. Instead of believing choice internet rumors lets have faith that Nintendo will not put out a console that is only comparable to current gen systems. I can point you to just as many rumors that state that Wii U is going to pack a punch in graphical horsepower.

You, me, the guy who works at the deli, bob the plumber, steve from queens and the geico cave man all know that nintendo is not putting up to date tech into the wiiu.

$350 is way too much, WAY TOO MUCH for a game system.

You can but a quad core laptop for that! For $50 more you could get an iPad 2!

You could buy a 32 inch HD TV for less then that!

$250 is my spending limit for the thing. Thats not even a lot of money for me, I just will not spend more then that on a game system.

@Mako

Uh yeah they can, they can take a loss on the thing like Sony and Microsoft did on their systems for a year or two. Their dinosaur of a business plan will not work anymore.

If we all go crazy and lose our minds like we did at E32010 Nintendo will take that as a positive and charge $350. If we can keep it in our pants despite how hyped we are I think Nintendo will charge at a loss of $300.

Obviously a better one then you, cause as I recall Nintendo tried that with the 3DS and failed miserably.

Google runs Walmart ads for Wii U at $350

350 is just fine, I would probably just need to see a color I want, and bundle of something I want. And I'd be sold.

People who complain about price need a reality check, 5 years or so ago we had nearly double the price for Ps3 and Xbox wasn't really much higher than 350 either. And its hilarious that buyers of the ps3 at launch actually JUSTIFIED paying 600 bucks. People are just insane no matter which way it goes.
Take what you can as the government self-destructs under the pressure of growing debt, avoid and refuse higher taxes. The end is nigh.

I must say, I'm really hyped for this console.
But, if it cost more than 300$, it'll hurt my budget more heavily. I can go one week eating almost nothing, but at that price, I'll have to do it at least one week and an half... :/
Also, I don't think I'll be able to get myself to tell others to buy it... not at this price.

Anyway, I can't wait for E3! I know there will be a ton of megatons. :P
Shy Guy? How did I return to that?? I was a Koopa? ... AWESOME!

5 years is a long time in tech, 5 years ago, things like tablets were science fiction. We "live" in the future where the tech sector is blowing up. Wake up! In 5 more years these tablets will blow away your console!

Nintendo has already confirmed that they will not discuss the system's price at E3, so the fact Walmart claims to know it is a bit silly.

Having said that, it will not be $250 or lower. I would say you're looking to pay anywhere from $300-$350 and should expect that for a new electronic in the year 2012.

Not to mention the damn thing comes with an elaborate controller with a large screen on it and probably built in games, channels and probably even a wiimote.

@TheBitBlock I'm guessing that's just the approx. price that retailers set. If they set it under the price of of the actual item they have to sell it to you at that price. So yeah, i'm stand by my price. $300

@Einar1025

3DS didn't fail simply because of it's price. It failed because of basic features not being up and running yet as well as literally NO must have software at launch.

People buy consoles to play games. If a game is amazing enough, people will spend a bit more cash in order to play the game. Had Mario Kart 7, Resident Evil, Snake Eater, 3D Land and other big titles launched with the system... you would have seen a different result for it's launch.

@funkamatic

Assassins Creed 3
Ghost Recon Online
Aliens Colonial Marines
Battle Mii/Find Mii/Wii U packed in disc
Pikmin 3
Project C.A.R.S.
Killer Freaks from Outer Space
Smash Bros. Wii U/3DS
Darksiders II
New Super Mario Bros. Wii U
Rayman Origins
Metro Last Night
Ninja Gaiden 3
Tekken Wii U

I would say that's a good start considering E3 isn't even here yet.
