I'm like 50 hours in and only Lv.39 because I've just been wandering around and looking at everything and some spoilery things (I believe).

Spoiler:
Got to Eryth Sea, been doing tons of side quests, to the point where Colony 9 is 4 Stars, Colony 6 is like 3 and I am slowly working on Frontier Village. I've also been doing Colony 6 reconstruction, which is a pain in the ass to find some of the stuff.

I'm loving the game. I regret nothing. Sure, it could look better (models and textures, specifically; World looks amazing) and the world is sometimes overwhelming, and it's very *different*, but I'm enjoying it a lot.

This is definitely ranking up there with my love for Majora's Mask and Deadly Premonition. Dohoho.

Colony 6 Reconstruction probably.

In the same vein, quests like "Mementos of a Lost Son" and "Preparing for Adventure" that are very long-term and can't be completed right away encourage exploring and are very nice. They're more like quests that are completed along your way (or on the side, if you will).

Giant's Treasure is memorable, because of the surprise. The whole Ignas quest arc was pretty fun. I'm only just now getting to all the side quests so I can't say much of the quests later in the game, but there was one I actually did do towards the later part of the game that stood out to me during my first play through:

Spoiler:
The Telethia Investigation quests were interesting to me. You don't actually do much for this quest, but the creatures are still pretty mysterious at this point in the story. Alot of the quests in this game are valuable just because of the backround story behind the context and the characters involved.

Finally bought the game. Totally loving it. One of the few games with a soundtrack that I'm totally hooked to. I think I really like every song. Have to really force myself to stop playing because the sense of progression is so addicting.

Yeah. I don't know what happened.

I am at
Spoiler:
Alcamoth

I literally spent several hours doing sidequests and looking for Colony 6 stuff. And I couldn't find a couple of unique monsters for a while that I needed to do for quests and went insane.

I had also spent a long time doing Gem crafting because I had simply too many crystal things.

I also made a point to actually cross some areas and fill the maps before even doing anything. And in the one sea area, I swam around through the entire thing. For no reason. I think I went insane.

I just found out that this released in the US last week. I'll be picking it up this weekend, is a classic controller the best way to experience this?

Both ways have their pros and cons, but I'd say the Classic Controller Pro is the way to go.

Classic Controller Pro has way better camera control, but in the few instances of combat where you want to switch between Arts while moving your character at the same time, you will have to acquaint yourself with an old friend that Monster Hunter fans know as The Claw.

Personally, I like both control types.

The Classic Controller has better camera control and it's far easier to cycle through menus (using just L and R).

The Wii Remote+Nunchuk has an easy-access camera 'snap' function (to center it back behind you), you can move around with the nunchuk and simultaneously select some menu items or Arts during battle.

The button to pull out the Map is Minus on CC and 1 on the Wii Remote. CC is probably easier to access for most.

Everything else comes down to preference.

I personally suggest trying both control methods to see which feels more natural. I enjoy and use both. I'm indecisive over which I prefer. I love to move and select things, and I don't use the camera that much that I have a problem with the Wii Remote's controls, but L+R are far more convenient to cycle the submenus.

I would never say to *buy* a Classic Controller for the game, as it controls just fine normally and feels comfortable (as far as I am concerned) with the standard Wii controller... but if you had one, I'd certainly say to use it or try it out. Especially if you don't use the CC that much. Give it some use.

I use wiimote+nunchuck just fine. But classic controller would probably be more comfortable, not that I've ever tried it.

I hate this game's sprawling areas. I'm level 50 and 50 hours in. A good 36 hours of that felt like I was just walking every walkable path looking for blue dots or landmarks plus accidentally falling asleep. This game punishes obsessive compulsives.

I think it took me 7 hours to venture
Spoiler:
Valak Mountain.
There were only 2 story moments that were extremely straight-forward but OCD me likes to explore every single polygon. It doesn't help with all the elevated levels and backtracking and disorientating layout.

QUESTION: Why does Melia suck if she's being controlled by the CPU? I usually play as her anyway but when she's a CPU, she'll act fine and Summon and Discharge once but then she'll Summon 3 elements and does nothing. She literally just stands there with her Summons. I know she's boosting the party, but I found it to be a problem when my party HP is dwindling.
Just be nice. Or else.

Yeah, I'm convinced I've only done maybe 10 hours max of actual story progression and going straightforward to where I needed to be. The map (and quests) are very punishing. I can't stand looking at pieces missing in the map, so I'm wandering off looking at the entire area as soon as I get there and not doing anything productive. And some areas are HUGE and have multiple floors and paths and it starts to get crazy.

I was overwhelmed as early as Bionis' Knee/Leg.

Same here. There were some areas that I stood around doing absolutely nothing so I could take in the music. One of the place that I like was Satorl Marsh. The music in that area was so relaxing.

Here's a link if anyone is interested: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9BvWPzAg8Ig

Currently, I'm over the 100 hour mark and doing some sidequests for Colony 9, 6, and Frontier village. I'm also trying to raise the affinity of some of the characters by giving them those collectable items. The problem with that is you have to know which gift each party member likes and finding that same item to give. It's taking quite a bit out of my play time. Storywise, I'm at the point where

Okay, I have a request but I think I have to put my question and reasoning for the question in spoiler

Spoiler:
Can anybody tell me when the missions in Melia's home are cut off...

All of their missions are timed, so I'm guessing they are all gonna die soon or get relocated. I ask this because I wanna add Melia back into my party, so I can build her relationship up with Sharla, but when I went to add her back into my party, the Mechons attacked, so I reloaded my save. OR will I be able to continue doing missions while the city is being attacked...

I really love the music in this game. It's so relaxing to just wander around, listening to the music and taking in the sights... until a level 96 beast starts attacking. Dear god that scares me every single time.
MasterofMonsters is super awesome! I lost a bet. Hehe!

Spoiler:
You have a loooooong way to go before the timed quests there expire, and there are a bunch of them that you cannot even complete at the point in the game you are currently at.

I think you can complete sidequests while the city is under attack, but if not, all you have to do is complete the next area and end the attack. The quests will all still be there.

Speaking very vaguely, the quests will expire when you are in a place called 'Junks' and the only way to proceed is when a guy with a flying ship saves your party's life and then offers to give you a ride. If you accept the ride, the Alcamoth quests expire.

Yeah, any of the events that lock-out quests, as well as the point-of-no-return before the final boss, presents with a choice of Yes/No. If you choose No, the character who asked you just sits there until you talk to them again (at which point they give you the same choice, which you can decline as many times as you want). You can take as much time as you need going wherever and doing whatever until you go and choose the Yes option, triggering the plot to move forward.

Spoiler:
I finally went back to Colony 9 for Gem Crafting and it took an hour to craft a hell of a lot of gems and cylinders. I had decided I should probably backtrack for more Colony 9 side-quests for leveling up and Gem Crafting for the first time netted a whole bunch of EXP due to the achievements I got out of there.

A few more levels and I'll be ready to start climbing the Bionis' Leg on the way to ruined Colony 6 to continue the story.

This is what I'm up to now in Xenoblade. Spoilers are for an unlockable mode and an upcoming story event I'm working toward.

Some questions for those probably 65+ hours or around Level 60 and up:

Spoiler:
Does Fiora get her old human body back in playable form? Really not liking the Shulk haircut and new suit and her even slower victory animation where she spins her daggers. Also, I don't see a slot for her Skill Link Tree to take up a "Medium Armour" token. Is she stuck to wearing limited armor the whole game?
