GoNintendo 'End of Day' thought - What do you want from the next Pikmin?

Man, my eyes are hanging heavy. I've got to turn in before I pass out on the keyboard! Just one more day away from the weekend, and boy do I need it! See you all in a few, short hours.

Remember all those years at E3 where we all hoped that the next Pikmin game would be shown? Eventually, Miyamoto did announce that he was working on a new Pikmin game for the Wii. Years went by, but we never saw the game. Not even a single bit of artwork. Then we finally found out that the title was moving from Wii to Wii U. According to Miyamoto, he just had to make the change after seeing the high-def visuals that were possible.

After all of that, we know with 100% accuracy that Nintendo is going to show off the next Pikmin game at E3 this year. We're actually going to see the game we've been waiting very patiently for. Last we heard, the game had a good chance of making launch of the Wii U. Even if it didn't make launch, it would see release soon thereafter. Let's keep our fingers crossed for a launch confirmation at E3.

While we wait for that E3 reveal, it's time to really start thinking about what we want from the Pikmin series. We all had some fantsatic ideas as to what the franchise could achieve via Wiimote and Nunchuk. Those ideas were realized through the New Play Control series, but now the Wii U is offering up a completely new experience. Just what can Pikmin do on Wii U that it couldn't do before?

Do you have ideas as to how the Wii U could lead to the best Pikmin yet, aside from the visuals? Leave a comment and let us know what direction you think the franchise is going to take. It's been awhile since we've visited Olimar in his franchise of origin, but boy am I ready to return!

Splitting up your Pikmin into two teams in Pikmin 2 never made much sense to me. You no longer needed it to save time and it wasn't elegant enough for you to coordinate your actions simultaneously. So in Pikmin 3 I'd like if you could control both groups at the same time, one displayed on the tv and controlled with the buttons and the other displayed and controlled on the touch screen. Perhaps that would be overwhelming but I'd like to see Nintendo try.

I think returning to their home planet Olimar, Louie and the President should find it under attack from giant creatures. But they also find that Pikmin have stowed away on board their rocket and with the Pikmin they take down the giant creatures as they did with the creatures back on the Pikmin's planet, but also by going inside the creatures and destroying them from within. It would have more of a story and you'd meet others of Olimar's race.

I can't wait for this game. I hope they bring back the real world objects from 2, I thought that was really cool, especially the Nintendo stuff. Controlling multiple groups of Pikmin at once with the controller touch screen would be cool and easy.

Postby MoldyClay » 03 May 2012 06:56

I want Olimar to look like he did in Brawl (or better) instead of the plasticy look of the original games. Somehow it made me appreciate him much more (I never really liked Olimar until Brawl).

I want new Pikmin types, and I want an area of stuff that is comparable to Mickey Junk Mountain, with discarded Nintendo objects, similar to R.O.B. in Pikmin 2.

Otherwise, I just want it to be fresh and interesting. While I haven't actually played Pikmin 2, I like that the original and sequel are very different and don't appear to feel like "just the same thing". I want Pikmin 3 to be like that as well.

I'm the exact opposite. I would love for Pikmin 3 to go back to its roots. I loved 1 but 2's random dungeons and lack of time pressure took out all the fun for me. Couldn't even bring myself to finishing it. And Pikmin's not the only culprit. I hate it when sequels go off a beloved formula, it turns for the worse (not necessarily bad, see Baten Kaitos) too often for me.

I agree with @ridleysaria, while the co-op was nice it didnt really do much other than increase multitasking efficiency to save time. most of pikmin 2 could actually be played with just one of the characters.

however, there is great potential for co-op for the series, if the level design is done well enough. maybe even a competition like a race, one person at point A one at Point B and race to point C, idk something like that could be good. oh and online would help a lot too lol.

as for controls, I agree with above comments that controlling multiple parties could really improve multitasking. I also think maybe it could be used to map out routes pikmin could take when returning with treasure, also I think the controller could offer a unique first person view with the gyro sensor.

Some things i'd love to have is:

A New Green Pikmin that Glows in the Dark.
A Bad Guy that uses Pikmin against You.
Co-Op in the Story Mode.
A Stage where a Human from time to time walks over, crushing everything he hits.
A slightly Stronger Story, maybe.
Greater Crontroll over the Pikmin via the Wii-U Controller.
And Night Explorations. Via the Green Pikmin, hehe.

I want to see areas that don't exclusively take place on the ground. As the camera zooms into the title screen of Pikmin 2, I always thought it was really cool to see it pan down from the top of a big tree with various enemies crawling over it. So maybe a forest canopy stage with different parts to explore; You can go higher up to the top of the canopy and amongst the branches? And the boss could be a species of bird that the Snagrets could have evolved from, maybe.

Also, I think weather effects and changing seasons could be really cool. How would the Pikmin deal with rain, hail or heavy snow, and how could you use a certain type of Pikmin to get around it? Stuff like that.

AHHH! Pikmin! The first game is AMAZING, the second one was also great but I did like the sense of urgency while playing the first one! With that said, I will enjoy this game however they end up doing it. A new type would be cool, as well as a bunch of new enemies. As long as they stick with the same beautiful art direction (one of the best looking games on the cube IMO) and the fun of taking down giant monsters, they can't go wrong!

They need to give the game purpose, I didn't like that the second game was just a fetch quest compared to the first game's goal of survival. I know lots of people like 2 over 1, but the time limit and story around it made 1 a much superior game over the first in my opinion.

It's no secret that I think we use a step backwards for this is 1 series I really think you could work for Because it will bring us 1 step closer to rts's on computers something we've never truly have on called soaps

Edit lol my new phone voice recognition sucks. I was trying to say that while wiiu is a step backwards in terms of cpntrol/innovation it will be very interesting to see pikmin 3 at the very least just to see how rts will play. Thats the pne genre i think will play better on Sioux

Great ideas guys. I would love to see flying pikmin. Pikmin that sprout wings like insects thst are then able to carry you to higher ground or solve puzzles. Id like to see pikmin that are able to form into a "tug of war" type circumstance whidh could be fun for pulling objects or ripping hard body parts off of enimies exposing their weak points. How about pikmin that can build? Imagine having to collect natural materials such as wood and grass to fashion a raft to cross a puddle without a level featuring water type pikmin. Pikmin can twine grass together to make rope in order to pull down tall flowers or plants, clearing paths and areas. How about pikmin that create a human (pikmin) pyramid so we can climb up to high platforms.fire pikmin that are able to burn paths in the snow or set fire to objects. How about pikmin that are able to knaw or hack their way through trees creating shortcuts. Id LOVE the idea of having a banjo kazooie nuts n bolts system...i guess pikmin can build the items we need from natural materials as i said before but then we are able to store them in a hut, without the insane hassel we had with banjo ofcource.

Pikmin are crossing a puddle in a raft they have made on the u pad with a birds eye view p.o.v. On the tv screen we have the default camera and we can see things like debris, eneimies ect and we need to clear it using pikmin that can smash objects before they enter the water stream. Hails stones falling, we use the same pikmin again to shoot down the hail, protecting the corssing pikmin, bla bla idk lol but i like some of these ideas.

GoNintendo 'End of Day' thought - What do you want from the

Postby The_Dude1212 » 03 May 2012 11:48

It's difficult to think of any additional ideas for such a quirky series. I mean, yes the time limit made for a great mechanic in the first game, but how would it have easily played out in the second? I think that was just so the game could naturally evolve.

The cave exploration though did become incredibly tedious after a while, and lord know how many times I reset my Gamecube after losing a single purple or white pikmin death.

I think the idea of Pikmin stowing away in the S.S. Angel upon return to Hocotate is very possible, and finding aliens/giant bugs are attacking Olimar's home planet. But then how would you explain how the Pikmin survive without Oxygen?

Perhaps Hocotatians wish to colonize the strange planet, and Olimar is to head up the charge, and find materials for buildings.

Please no time limit as in the first game, I couldnt enjoy after a while it because of that... But hopefully it has a little more sense of a purpose than 2

Furthermore, the touch control would be perfect for a game like pikmin (controlling groups, overview, puzzles), but some ir-pointer control could be included, cause it worked great on the wii. Id like it to be a real evolution in the franchise. More pikmin types, more puzzles, more diversity

I'd like an are where Olimar has to be under water for more than just to unplug a drain. It would give the blue pikmin a time to shine. I like how Pikmin revitalized the yellow pikmin with lots of electricity puzzles, even if there weren't any bomb rock puzzles.

I'd like to see 2 new pikmin types and less cave exploration, more overworld exploration. I do like the idea of building things. It was really fun to see the ship parts attaching and improving the ship in Pikmin 1. Can't wait.

How should Nintendo handle the problem of too many onions for the growing number of pikmin? And do you think they should 'remix' areas from the previous games like they did with pikmin 1 areas for pikmin 2? I for one loved seeing how the areas changed without feeling like they lazily rehashed them. It was fun seeing the old onion landing site 'crop circles.'
