RUMOR - Capcom bringing another new Resident Evil title to 3DS this year

- contains Degeneration and Damnation movies in 3D
- new title would be called Resident Evil: Downfall
- takes place between the events of Resident Evil 5 and Resident Evil 6
- play as Claire Redfield as she witnesses the "downfall" of humanity

Capcom said Mercs 3d was a success and it's sold half as much as Revelations so it's clearly been a big success.

The budget was small for Revelations, like $1-2 million like most 3DS games. 600k @ $40 is about $25 million in revenue, not profit but that's still a mighty sum bigger than the likely $2 million development costs. So no, Revelations was far from a failure if Capcom is saying 300k for Mercs 3D is a success.

Claire is my favorite character though so id welcome a chance to play as her again, just so long as capcom doesnt mess with her design like they did with jill's, i dont want to see her become a ridiculous and stereotypical collagen reject as well.

I'd get anything featuring Claire Redfield since the previous two games in which she was the main protagonist were simply amazing.
Though I'm sure it's just a rumour, they wouldn't release two movies and one game in one package if they could gain more money by selling it separately.

Although it would be nice to get two movies and for example a short expansion of RE Revelations with Claire just like there was this expansion with jill and Chris for RE5.

For a 3DS game, of course. You're right about Mercenaries being a success, I think I recall Capcom touting that at some point. Do you know what Capcom expected from Revelations directly, though? Have they even said? I didn't mean to suggest that the game was a money sink and a failure, but I don't think I'm wrong in saying Capcom at least expected more than they got. From that perspective it can be seen as a disappointment. Certainly though, it wasn't a commercial bomb. At least not in Japan, the US sales are debatable I suppose, and I don't even know about Europe.

Chunky Budget? You can't be implying they'd spend more than $2 million or so on it. No 3DS game is going to get that big of a budget.

How could it be a failure in any way, it has literally grossed more than 10 times it's likely budget in revenue. If Mercs 3D is a success and it's sold half as much as Revelations, then clearly Revelations is a success.

No, I'm implying they spent more on Revelations than most devs have done with their respective 3DS games. It was a high profile release, it's not unreasonable to suggest it's budget is inflated compared to the average 3DS release. And I ask again if you have any idea how much Capcom expected this game to sell. I don't, but again, evidence suggests that Capcom at least expected more than what the game did. Capcom have been known to expect quite a lot out of their titles. Unrealistic numbers in some cases. I agree the game most likely generated a profit for Capcom, I'm not calling it a failure on that front. But how well did the game perform relative to what Capcom were expecting. It's not enough that a game simply breaks even or oftentimes even turns a profit. If the sales don't reach the projected estimates of the developer and publisher, in this case, Capcom, then the game can be considered a disappointment from that perspective.

This lands on the "wait for E3 to confirm if true" story to me. Like some fellow users said, we don't know exactly what Capcom expected from the sales of Revelations, nor how much it really sold.

But, if they announce another RE game for 3DS, don't wait for it this year. I think it would land on 1st quarter of next year, considering how much time Revelations was in development.
