Corrupt Twilight Princess File

Postby Carbondog » 07 May 2012 22:22

I have a problem with The Legend of Zelda Twilight Princess, every time I have a save file for it on my Wii and shut it off when I start it up again I get a corrupt file message.

The Wii is a launch system and the game is also a launch copy. It worked great for the first year or two but after a few system updates it started. So I moved the save file to a SD card and there were no problems. Every time I save I always go back to the title screen and then to the home menu. I recently bought a Nintendo Selects Copy and created a new save but got the same problem. I have sent the system back a few times explaining the issue, it works a few times like it is supposed to but shortly after the problem comes back.

Has anyone else had this problem? If so, how did you fix it? Am I doomed to keep juggling save files back and forth every time I want to play it?

that's wierd.. i'd say its not a scratch on the disc, because you saying you tried a new copy.. we had trouble with our first system and had to keep sending it back because of corrupt savefiles/systemfiles and when we would swap from sd card menu to the wii menu.. i eventually told them it was costing them shipping over and over and to just send me a new wii, so they finally did after 4 or 5 times of corrupt save files... i haven't had a problem since then... i'd just contact them and let them know you are a loyal fan and that this save file corruption bit is getting old(make sure you let them know how much it sucked when the system was gone for repairs)... tell them you had a friend that had the same problem, or that twilight AND smash bros. keeps giving you problems, and that their problem was finally fixed with a new refurbished system... they even swapped over all my digital games(they didn't want to at first, but after asking to speak to their boss, they changed their mind).... i hope this helps

By all means try what hellfire suggested

but

It does sound like bad flash memory (Is it just TP or other games to?). Unfortunately you can't fix that yourself. If they gave your Wii a clean pill of health and sent it back to you it might just be a small certain part of the memory that's damaged that they didn't find. You could try moving all your save fills to an SD card. Fill your Wii internal memory with Wiiware demos but leave just enough space to reload the save files on to the internal memory. When you copy the save files back to the Wii it should write them to a different part of the flash memory and the problem may stop.

If that does fix your problem go through the demos one by one to try find the one that may be written on the bad cluster. If you do find a demo that shows signs of being corrupted then you can delete all the other non-corrupted demos.

This will occupy the bad part of the memory so it doesn't get used for save files anymore.

Its only Twilight Princess and I have moved it back and forth many times while moving and adding new saves in between so it shouldn't be the memory. I would try sending it back as hellfire said but we are very close to the WiiU launch, It will also play Wii games, so hopefully it should work on there. I also have it on GameCube but I prefer the Wii controls and layout, since it was the first version I played. Thanks for the help you guys I appreciate it!

You could wait for Wii U or pick up a used Wii from a Gamestop or a pawn shop. I myself have only ever had one corrupt save file and it was for Silent Hill:SM. It happened when I took a picture in game and saved the picture. For some reason the Wii didn't like saving the picture to it's memory and became corrupt, that only happened once though.

Doesn't seem like theres much you can do at this point. :?

Just keep doing what is working for you and hope for the best.
