Sakurai has no intentions of making a Kid Icarus: Uprising s

@Einar1025 1 and 2 are advertisements and it's selling better because of it. It is selling decently, and it doesn't cost nearly as much to make kid icarus as an HD game.

Last I checked the game's been selling well, so I highly doubt Nintendo will lose money on it. I have a feeling it'll be a long-tail seller too.

...guys Sakurai has gone on the record saying he doesn't like making sequels. If he didn't have a problem with it he'd still be working on Kirby games at HAL.

So this article isn't that surprising, and there's no need to create conspiracy theories as to why he said he won't make a sequel.

Uprising kinda covered everything of ever, so creatively I can see why he doesn't want to think about making a sequel to it [it's just so good].

So the game is selling better, but still only decently? Come on...

Those "advertisements" will only appeal to people who planned or already got the game. Your typical consumer won't care about collecting the cards, or seeing a 5 minutes animated feature. (which are poorly cut to fit that 5 minutes)

Other then that, the voices that keep coming up when people talk abut the game are the bad controls. The word of mouth around the game isn't good. Had I listened to consumers about metroid other m, I would have avoided it like the plague and saved myself $50 and a horrible game touching my good ones.

Sakurai has no intentions of making a Kid Icarus: Uprising s

Postby LegendofSantiago » 09 May 2012 21:18

@Einar1025 It's not selling well as a mario or a zelda game, but it's still selling pretty well. A ton of games have advertisements, and i'm pretty sure that the positive press for this game is outweighing the bad. A couple of people from my old school that didn't have a 3DS said that they wanted to buy one to play kid icarus, they even liked the controls when i showed it to them. I don't know, it sounds like you are being overly pessimistic and you keep beating a dead horse.

Einar1025 wrote:Bringing it up twice counts as beating a dead horse? Ok whatever. You want some facts here are some obvious facts.

1) The AR cards. Designing, printing, cutting, marketing (the foil packagings), ect. I have worked in for a printing company, I know how much this stuff costs even in mass production this stuff adds up! Maybe 25 cents a card.

2) The animated short films, animation is expensive. Theres really nothing else to say on that.

3) The stand, even if the stand has 10 cents worth of plastic in it. At your 600k in sales (which you shared without proof BTW) would cost oh, $60 grand. Not to mention all the copies sitting on store shelves.

4) production delays, the game was pushed back almost a year from its original release window, thats another WHOLE year that Nintendo had to pay their production team to make the game. And if your new to this site, go back and look up ANY of the articles about the rising cost of game development.

Don't be dense, this stuff adds up.

1. AR cards cost money to make. I don't know how much they cost, so I'm going to say 25 cents and try to pass it off as fact.
2. Animated shorts are expensive. I actually don't know how much they cost to make, so I'm just going to say expensive because it sounds like a big scary word.
3. The stand cost money and I'm going to say $60k because by now you know that I'm just pulling this stuff out of my a$$. BTW, http://www.vgchartz.com/game/45683/kid-icarus-uprising/ There, now I've shown my work.
4. I went through the site and here is what I found:
- “In a list of the top 10 SKU’s for the month (as opposed to top titles as listed here), 3DS Kids Icarus: Uprising would have been among the top selling individual SKU’s for the month of March.” http://gonintendo.com/?mode=viewstory&id=175463
- Here is an interview with Sakurai where he talks about the development, but nothing about cost http://gonintendo.com/?mode=viewstory&id=160754
- Here's an interview where he calls it difficult, but again, doesn't say the process got expensive http://gonintendo.com/?mode=viewstory&id=158039
- Here's one where he talks about starting with a staff so small, he could count them all on his fingers http://gonintendo.com/?mode=viewstory&id=124666
- Finally, here is one talking about developing it for the PC and Wii at first http://www.gonintendo.com/?mode=viewstory&id=174584

Again, not one of those stories talk about the cost of development. So unless you have a source within Nintendo who will talk about how much was spent to make the game, you can't back up anything you say about the company losing money on the game.

Glad to hear this. I'm not a fan of the direction Sakurai took, and I'll be extremely excited for a fresh, new vision.

Hire Retro or nab Team Ico from Sony! (Or have Retro hire people from Team Ico! haha)

I think a sequel would be a good idea...just not anytime soon. It would probably be best to give it some time. Maybe for the Wii U?

Treasure could do an awesome job designing the game. Just let someone else outside of Treasure handle the story and the Script. Treasures games never to be memorable for story. :D

Sakurai has no intentions of making a Kid Icarus: Uprising s

There will definitely be a sequel. If not a real sequel than a spiritual one. Nintendo has defined the new style of gameplay for 3DS shooters, and they're going to have to reuse that code in one future project or another.

i love the hell out of this game.. and while i would like a sequel or at least another game involving pit in less time than 25 years.. im okay with where they left it for now.. i feel content. there is so much in the game im pretty sure, like smash bros, ill be playing it for years afterward and still not unlock everything.

and as for the noa dialogue. i know its an area of contention but i think they did a brilliant job on it. its funny and, as ive stated before, reminds me of adventure time.

one of my favorite lines in the game:
"geeeeefooooorrrrce in my faaaaaaace"

makes me, at the very least, crack a smile when i hear it.

One of my favorite parts is when Pit goes into battle tired as hell. Cracked me up. I love the dialogue because a) It knows it's cheesy (so was the dialogue in the animated shorts) & b)it's intelligently written. Suffice to say, it's a fantastic break from all the f*cks and sh*ts you hear in too many games these days.

On the subject of favorite lines I'd have to say mine be during the Aurom saga.
Pit- "Hey look a beetle tank!"
Hades- "Hey look nobody cares..."

bear in mind he was speaking to professionals. people who do these things for a living. he trusts them. he didnt go up to a group of middle schoolers and say "change this, as much as you want". certain jokes dont translate. certain references dont make sense to us. they didnt change the the main plot, thats set, they changed the dialogue and possibly character interactions. they did their own thing and it came out great. dont be so quick to condemn.

Yeah, I hope a sequel happens sooner than 25 years. Maybe this only applies to handhelds too. Who knows. Maybe a new Kid Icarus will show up on the Wii U a few years into it's lifespan.
