SEGA offers up lackluster support for 3DS in their new fiscal year

Usually we see SEGA and Nintendo working very well together, but it seems like SEGA doesn't have a lot of faith in their new fiscal year. For April 2012 to March 2013, SEGA plans to release 3 3DS titles and expects sales of around 380,000 units. Let's hope SEGA is just hiding some projects until E3.

Considering Sega's business acuume, I consider this a guarantee of success for the 3DS.

Ironically, Sega is putting eight tiles on PSV -and expects to move 600k total units. That is 75k per Vita title, or 50k less than it expects from each 3DS title. Weird.

@Mike_Intellivision They are also expecting the Miku game to sell most of the 600k units so they must not expect a lot from the vita sales and from my understanding Vita games cost a lot more to make than 3DS games so it's pretty stupid on SEGA's part

I wonder what the other two games are (seeing as one of them is Obviously Sonic All Star Racers 2)? I think the 3DS version of Mario & Sonic at the Olympics London will see a big boost once the Olympics hit.

I'm pretty sure they're expecting 380k units sold, not monies received.
We're going to rack up some serious Nintendogs trainer points together!

Perhaps they have a few big projects on the way for 3DS that won't make it out in time for the new fiscal year? A Phantasy Star game maybe? I thought Phantasy Star 0 on the DS did OK. A bit optimistic I admit, but I don't think it's entirely out of the question.

If you look at it carefully, you can see that there is no place for unannounced titles... It doesn't even have a category for WiiU... Weird...

SEGA has really been getting chummy with Sony and Microsoft, when clearly there is more money to be made on 3DS (and hopefully Wii U), Sonic wise at least.

I'm sure releasing Rhythm Thief in the US at the same time as in Europe would have helped a little.

Poor Sega. I hope they figure out whatever it is that they need to and will get back to even close to their old glory.

Mario & Sonic at the London 2012 Olympic Games was their best-selling game, but not thanks to Sonic, really.
I hope that once Rhythm Thief is released, things get better for Sega. Still, pretty stupid of them for expecting their PSV titles selling more than their 3DS offerings.

SEGA offers up lackluster support for 3DS in their new fisca

Postby MoldyClay » 12 May 2012 02:08

Considering the fact SEGA's been destroying itself and restructuring their games, I don't find this surprising.

It's not like SEGA makes a whole lot of new things anyway. They probably just haven't announced anything yet. There's sure to be more 3DS titles eventually.

@Pichu2010

With what logic? Sonic 4 Episode 2 and Sonic Racing 2? Which will probably both be on Wii U?

Good thing Wii and DS have so many exclusive Sonic titles, moreso than the HD consoles. But I guess those never count.

This doesn't surprise me because Sega has always made horrible business decisions.

@Waluigi
There is no business logic. This industry is not mature at all and is lead by childreen who just care in creating games for the 'most' powerful box of the year and not about making money (Shenmue says hello, and some still say it's Nintendo that never learn!). At the end, in 3 years SEGA is dead and some will wonder why! :lol:

Yeah I wonder how many of you would call out Sega on being naive if they supported Wii U before it pulled in sales in order to garner something of an install base

approx 0

at any rate something tells me some of these games are going to be easy peasy console ports like tennis, so if that's the case I'm not too concerned. I'm more excited for that collab project then anything else I've seen from Sega lately anyway, so as a 3DS owner I can't really complain
