Super Mario Bros.: The Movie getting multiple theatrical re-screenings, cast members to attend

We at the Archive are proud to finally share what we've been working towards the last few months: the film's first true theatrical print screening events! We have worked with the esteemed Landmark theatres and Thalian Hall to book the film in several locations around the country, including New York, NY, Los Angeles, CA, Seattle, WA and Wilmington, NC.

This will be the first time the movie has been seen in theaters since it's original 1993 premiere, so we're planning these events to be well-remembered. Former cast/crew are scheduled to attend to both watch the film and speak on their contributions while production memorabilia held in storage for nearly 20 years will be displayed.

Yes, you read that right. As this is the last year before the film's 20th anniversary we've decided to demonstrate once and for all that it has a dedicated cult following in the strongest way possible: screening it in theaters across the country. These locations include:

The Sunshine Cinema in New York City on April 27th and 28th

The NuArt Theatre in Los Angeles on May 25th

The Thalian Hall in Wilmington, NC on June 21

The Egyptian Theatre in Seattle, WA on June 22nd and 23rd

Our first screenings will be on April 27 and 28 at the Sunshine Cinema in New York City. Both screenings are being held at midnight. The April 27th screening will feature special guest speaker Michael Criscuolo, who will be available to answer a few questions following the end of the film.

If the cast is attending, then it obviously won't be well remembered for them.

That. Clip was pretty awesome! I wonder what Super Mario USA is? You know they should redeem Mario into the big screen with a new movie. With today's tech it should be halfway decent

Super Mario Bros.: The Movie getting multiple theatrical re-

Postby HammerGalladeBro » 16 May 2012 20:42

@Ryuujin1078
Yeah. Today's tech is ought to do wonders for a Mario movie, even a computarized one would work.
Long story short, Super Mario USA is the name our Super Mario Bros. 2 (The Mario re-skinned Doki Doki Panic) got in Japan, ironically, the original NES/FC version was released there a year before Super Mario Collection/All-Stars. While the Super Mario Bros.2 promoted here is the one we know as The Lost Levels. Hope that helps.

I actually really like this movie. I don't understand why so many people get up in arms about something not being so close to the source material. It's the same situiation with Tristar's Godzilla, or the 80's Ninja Turtles. Not bad, but far from the source material.

The only thing I hate about this movie is how it's made people into pansies about giving Mario a second chance on the silver screen. Which is funny, because the opening to Mario Tennis on the gamecube is probably the best premise for a Mario movie I have ever seen.

Didn't Bob Hoskins publicly hate this film? If so.. why the f**k is he attending this thing?

Bob Hoskins isn't personally attending. Those attending are mostly those in the production departments, such as production designer David L. Snyder and SFX supervisor Chris Woods. Contrary to popular belief, most of the people who worked on the movie had a good time and enjoy it to this day.

As a fan of the movie myself I recommend leaving all preconceived notions about both the film and its connection to the film at the door; go in there seeing it as a cheesy '90s film about dinosaurs and you'll have a good time. The Los Angeles showing in two weeks is the place to be considering all the former cast/crew who will be there.

Super Mario Bros.: The Movie getting multiple theatrical re-

Postby MoldyClay » 17 May 2012 02:54

>Announce the film getting re-screenings

Good job there guys. I can't go back to April and see it. Rage.

Having said that, I liked the movie.

It's stupid, it's very 80s/early 90s, and it has nothing to do with Super Mario Bros., but I enjoyed it for what it was, not what it tried to be.
