Pach-Attack - Why all the GameStop hate?

Postby zeeroid » 19 May 2012 18:41

First two answers were pretty damn good, actually.

Unfortunately his reasoning for the third (titular) question was a little off-base, I think. Most core gamers hate GameStop because of their policies, not because the clerks are sometimes ignorant.

Pach-Attack - Why all the GameStop hate?

Postby TheBitBlock » 19 May 2012 18:43

@Pugwishbone17

Watch his videos. He barely even mentions Nintendo when discussing the industry, and when he does it's him saying they are doomed.

Why discuss Nintendo when they owned the handheld and console market this generation, right?

Pach-Attack - Why all the GameStop hate?

Postby Barto » 19 May 2012 18:43

You know I really enjoyed this episode.

He brought up some VERY good points concerning GameStop hate and used games. Points I had never thought of before.
I'm now 90% convinced none of the Big 3 will ban used games next gen.

@Thebitblock

to be fair...none of the questions asked necessarily pertained to Nintendo. Now I'm not defending him...he has made some wildly crazy claims about the Big N, but still.

I think in relation to the used games question he excluded Nintendo, since their new system is already announced and is actually playing used games.

I don't like Pachter and I don't really understand how anyone can take him seriously. He just sits and critiques on what he thinks may happen, hardly a meaningful job. And argggh, damnation. I just think all the Nintendo hate is lame and unfounded. Whatever happened to just, enjoying the games. Everyone takes sides, even "analysts".

Pach-Attack - Why all the GameStop hate?

Postby Waynebrizzle » 19 May 2012 19:31

I've never actually watched his show, only seen quotes and snippets from it, but even that was enough to make me think that the man really doesn't ever know what he's talking about. The Wii bubble thing? Seriously? When did he finally admit he was wrong about that? And the Wii U is hardly an HD Wii. That's like saying the PS3 is an HD PS2.

Honestly, I don't like GameStop because I cannot stand getting hassled about putting games on pre order or subscribing to game informer or signing up for a gamer card. I feel like I'm being bombarded in there. I try to get in and get out as soon as possible.

Pach-Attack - Why all the GameStop hate?

Postby TheLastBlade » 19 May 2012 20:45

Patcher + Gamestop? ... I can see this as a pairing.

Anyways, I meet people that are ****s and I met very few people that don't annoy me there. So in a business perspective, people should have the option to NOT get bombarded with useless advertisements (ex. "You sure you don't want a reserve? It's $5 off!") And can someone answer why some of them are smartasses? I went to ask for a certain game, they said it's in the bin. *5 hours later* I couldn't find it. Gave up and ask the store employee if it's in the front.... It was in the damn drawer.... NEVER going to that gamestop again.
Bang.

See you, Space Cowboy...

This.. I think core gamers are better informed for the most part than GameStop clerks, at least in my expeience.

It was another good episode though.

screw you guys, I've almost never had a problem with the Gamestop I shop at. The guys there know their stuff, and I've never had a problem with prices or anything. The only time they ever gave me grief was when they refused to let me trade in my Phantasy Star Online games because the online was no longer in service.

Pach-Attack - Why all the GameStop hate?

Postby scikoolaid » 19 May 2012 21:34

edit: Kinda getting carried away below but I did like this ep.

The Gamestop hate is usually miss-placed when it comes just about anything related to dealing with them. You choose to deal with Gamestop knowing full well what you are dealing with, you really can't complain.

Complaints in the purpose of telling a business they improve this or that to make them more palatable to your tastes is okay. They will probably listen to you when you make them money or starve them money.

The kinds of hate about trade in value, knowledge at the register, disc only games vs complete are stupid complaints. Either take advantage of that or avoid it, either way, shut up about it, eh?
Take what you can as the government self-destructs under the pressure of growing debt, avoid and refuse higher taxes. The end is nigh.

Interesting. I think Pachter did not mention Nintendo in the used game discussion because no one has said the WiiU will not play used games (unlike Durgano and Orbis rumors).

Of course, as Pachter said, "You all know me. I don't know anything."

Mike from Morgantown

PS -- I would love to see a scorecard of Pachter vs. a stockbroker to see who does better.

(PM me if younwould like to be WiiU friends .
... I know that sounds strange at best but I am looking to fill out my friends list.)

I just don't like the fact he didn't even mention that if Microsoft and Sony collude so that they both don't support used games, Nintendo will reap the benefice. Seriously, he talked like Nintendo wasn't even a factor.
Shy Guy? How did I return to that?? I was a Koopa? ... AWESOME!

I also don't understand Gamestop hate. Most of my experiences at Gamestop have been pleasant ones.

The one thing that Gamestop does that really irritates me though is when they sell opened games for a NEW price. No, this is not new. It's opened. You put stickers all over the case. As far as I'm concerned, once that shrink wrap goes off the game is no longer "new" and I should not have to pay the new price for an opened product. The worst was when I bought Metro 2033 from them "new" and it wasn't even in the original green Xbox 360 case. It was some sort of black DVD case. But they still considered it new.

I also don't like how they have to put stickers everywhere on their used games, especially the bindings. I hate seeing those used game stickers on the bindings of my games when they're lined up. It's even worse if they put the sticker on the cover slip itself because then it's a real pain in the ass to remove without tearing the cover.

But other than that I've been happy with Gamestop.

I, too, never really had any problems at Gamestop. I treat the employees I would regular people so if I ask for a game they never heard of I tell them what system it is for and other things they may need to know to find out what I am talking about. I have become so used to my friends not understanding a word I say when I mention a game title outside of the usual Mario, Call of Duty, Skyrim lingo. Also, I never had a problem with used games either. Even if I wanted to trade in games, I would look up the Gamestop value on CAG and consider other options like a 3rd party store or my local Navy Exchange that uses a Game Exchange policy. I still go buy games at Gamestop because it always is the first place I go to find games.

I agree. I stopped shopping at Gamestop months ago because of their bad customer service and anti-consumer policies.
