Looks like someone made a mistake on Nintendo's press room. Earlier today we showed you a Wii U logo from the Nintendo press room. That logo was uploaded today and was certainly for this year's show instead of last. The file name even had 2012 in it, confirming it's for this upcoming E3.

For whatever reason, that logo has been removed. There's no sign of it anywhere. I don't see what the big deal about a logo is, but clearly Nintendo didn't want it on the site yet. Thanks to Logan for the heads up!

Not like it matters. The official facebook page is made for Wii U with that logo and all. They can't just make that page and have Reggie officially welcome everybody to it in a video for kicks and giggles... right...? O_o... I don't know what to believe... what with all the rumors and NDAs... the suspense is KILLING ME!!!!!!

Personally, I don't mind the name. I know that the system is new and a billion times more powerful than the Wii U. The problem I have with the name is that people who don't "follow" games (visiting gaming sites and such) may not understand that it's an entirely new console or something that isn't much of a difference. Meaning they won't have a justifiable means to make the upgrade. It would be smart of Nintendo to make it much more elaborately known that this is a brand new HD console, by removing the Wii branding entirely. They may have a strong fan base with the Wii but that fan base won't buy if they don't understand the difference. And, really, a lot of consumers won't do the research if they don't know instantly that it is something different.

Would you guys be happy if they changed it to 'Wii 2' instead, and takes the Playstation road of no imagination in names at all? :?

Well, each his own I guess, but I really don't see the anger for this name. It may fool some that it's not a new console, yes, but the name is at least original. ^3^

what value does imagination in the name of the system add? What value does having zero ambiguity about the system being a successor to the wii add?

and lets be honest, tacking a 'U' on to wii is not exactly the height of imagination.

Really? So the whiny babies might get what they want after all? :|
....
It wouldn't surprise me since they did get a Wii"U" controller without Circle Pads now. (¬¸¬)

Wii U logo disappears from Nintendo press room

I just hope Nintendo's well paid marketing exec's know what they're doing with branding this new console as Wii U.

But something tells me these aren't the same guys who came up with the genius branding of the Mario Bros. DS game as *New* Super Mario Bros.

Time will tell if non "hardcore" gamers will understand that it is a new system and not an add-on for their dusty white paper weight.

I'd say something about Nintendo marketing taking a nosedive after being outsourced (or at least not based at Redmond) and well this PR leak but...

...maybe its meant to be thought to be a PR leak...maybe its a trick to get people to talk more about the logo.

I really hope its a name change Nintendo U-NIVERSE sounds so much better. Then people may call it the "U" for short. I think saying Nintendo has the same value as Wii EVERYONE knows it.

I wouldn't have a problem with Santiago if his first comments weren't these generic one liners that go like ''Can't wait'' or ''That's cool''.

@Zug Zug I think some of the more interesting comments come later in the thread from others, but those don't get read. The "first" thing is overrated.

It's back now.

You have to realize that stuff periodically disappears and reappears on the press site all the time.
