Sonic fanboys: I mean I can understand some complaints like Sonic 06, Shadow (game not character), Werehog (though wasn't nearly as bad as people made it out to be), and Sonic 04's physics. But when SEGA listens and fixes it they STILL complain! You know there are people out there who hate Sonic 4: Episode 2 and Generations? How? Sega listened to you brought back 2D and Classic short black eyed Sonic and you STILL complain? Idk but i'm sick of hearing ''green eyes'' ''too tall'' ''robotnik not Eggman'' ''kill everyone but Sonic and Eggman'' it's ANNOYING!

Miyamoto fanboys: I love him as much as the next guy but just as Moldy pointed out he is getting a bit stale and he keeps shooting down good ideas. No cameos allowed in SMG, escuse as to why Peach wasn't playable in NSMBW, Putting Mii's and Wuhu island in EVERYTHING, etc. I mean fanboys/fangirls he can do WRONG sometimes. He is only human not a ''god'' as you all proclaim!

Simpsons fanboys: Maybe i'm in the minority but I still enjoy this show and what they produce now. I hate the fanboys who say only the ''classic'' era was funny (seasons 2-9) and said the show ''died'' during the ''Scully'' era and was buried with the ''Jean'' era. If you don't like it that's fine but EVERY episode within those two era's suck? That's a bit much....and if I like them so be it but don't crap on my opinion and say i'm wrong for enjoying current Simpsons. >_>
Finally got a PS3 sooo add me if you want. :)

Ugh, Majora's fans grind my gears sometimes too. The main thing that makes that game unique is also its downfall; a lot of people don't like having to feel stressed out by the time running out while they're trying to have fun playing a game. It's really not for everyone, but a lot of people don't understand that. And they just hate on Ocarina of Time because people like it a lot, not paying attention to all the great things about it. I'll admit it's not the BEST GAME EVAR or anything but people need to stop hating games just because of their fans.

Also even general Nintendo fanboys are starting to piss me off a bit; basically anyone who thinks nonspecific action figure or anything about that skit was funny, just because it came from Nintendo. Or anyone who fails to at least look critically at what their favorite company is doing and admit that they're not 100% flawless. They'll just argue with you if you say a thing. I guess that can apply to fans of anything.

Now now, while I think of Miyamoto as a very big role model of mine and I think very and I mean very highly of the man. I know he makes mistakes, and a lot of them too. It's only human. Wii Music isn't exactly genius, it was okay. But that's it. Just okay. Nothing made you want to play the game. Maka Wuhu or whatever in Pilot Wings Resort was lazy, but if you really think about it, redundant at the same time since I believe you could fly around the Island in Wii Sports Resort.

Yeah, the man makes mistakes. But you have to cut him some slack. He's made plenty of mistakes before, this isn't a first or anything.

B-but... I honestly thought it was funny. :/ And don't get me wrong. It wasn't just because it was from Nintendo. It was just cheesy enough to be funny, and I appreciated that.

Am I crazy or something? T_T

No, no, of course you're not. Clearly a lot of people found it funny... I just hate when people continuously repeat "jokes" or quotes or whatever that didn't get a chuckle out of me even the first time. ESPECIALLY when it's because it's their favorite company that came up with it. I'm just a grump. ^^

Dude.....................................yeah.

This is a touchy subject, but to be frank, fanboys of just about ANYTHING piss me off.

I can't even begin to really tell you, without going on for hours, about JUST how many things I am personally a fan of, but that certain OTHER "fans" of said thing act like total, ignorant, snobby f***in morons, and it really gets on my nerves. The type of people who almost make you wish you weren't a fan of the same thing, just so as not to be even remotely associated with that type of person.

Whether it be video games, whether it be comic books, movies, music (fans of certain bands or just certain genres), literature, sports, etc. etc. etc. You name it, just about anything I'm a fan of, somewhere on the internet (or sometimes even in real life) I run into moronic "fans" who have to be all "Haters Ball" about everything.

It gets rather tiresome and annoying, to be sure. And it's really depressing to admit just how much time I've personally wasted over the years, trying to argue/reason with said people. Not to mention the adorable fact that when you try to argue with some of these types, you'll often find them calling YOU a fanboy as a means to disregard your opinions/arguments. Oh the irony....

I think one sure way to tell a fanboy from just a FAN of something, is that fanboys, almost universally, cannot be reasoned or successfully, intelligently debated or argued with. Just can't. Because when I think about it, the worst offenders I've had the misfortune of running into on the internet, all seem to share the same, annoying, arrogant, close-minded "fanboy" traits. Too bad really......because without "fanboys" existing, being a FAN of something would be a lot more fun.

Fanboys are fine. I love people with passion. But trying to voice your opinion or counter-point them.... :x

Absolutely hate when you post something like "Why X + Y = is really Z" and you make a huge post and then they respond with a simple "No, you're wrong. That's stupid. You're stupid. Your opinions are stupid," and then they bolt without actually giving a constructive reply.

Or like I said, simply calling you a fanboy in return, because they disagree with you. Mind-boggling. Would be hilarious if it weren't so maddening.

I hate it when Call of Duty fanboys hate on fans of Nintendo. I saw a comment on IGN a couple days ago that really irked me. I was reading a review and said a game (Mario Tennis Open) should be rated a little higher than 6.5. One reader then said: "Oh, god... to nintendo fanboys, every crappy game with mario on it's cover deserves a 10, lol"

Isn't Activison doing the same thing Nintendo is supposedly doing? To Call of Duty fanboys, every crappy game with Call of Duty on its cover is great.

Does anyone ever actually consider themselves a fanboy in a serious manner devoid of snark? Have you ever 100% agreed with something said that was completely and undeniably fanboy-esque?

Fanboyism is like the modern-day digital version of witchcraft. Anyone can and will accuse someone of fanboyism, but only to reinforce their own opinions. It has no objective definition, and is solely based on one's own subjective interpretation of another's subjective rejection of your subjective opinions. A lynch mob of insults and nerd-rage, naturally, is the only true way to reprimand them. Sure, you've disagreed with people before without accusing them of being a fanboy, just as long as they don't disagree with you too much. The interesting thing about the internet, however, is how wide-spread and varied opinions are to the point that different perspectives will reach the end of every spectrum depending on whatever website you happen to be on. What is completely normal and widely accepted in one web community is the most outrageous piece of intellectual trash that has ever defiled the human mind on another. So what I'm getting at is: if fanboys really do exist, then you're all fanboys. Or fangirls. Everyone is. No exception.

Still, the obvious hypocrisy and arrogance of crying "fanboy" isn't actually the worst part about the ad-hoc inquisition to persecute heretics fanboys. By persecuting fandom, you're essentially saying that positive opinions are bad and negative opinions are good, even if that's not your intent. And people wonder why there's so much hate around the internet. It's ok if someone just hates everything, or is completely apathetic, but god forbid they have the nerve to be in their own little world where they have a reliable and fulfilling source of enjoyment and happiness that just so happens to be unpopular in your little section of the internet.

Final Fantasy fanboys: Whether they're bashing everything after VI, bashing anything that isn't VII, bashing VIII for being "emo," declaring IX the BEST GAEM EVAR, bashing everything after IX, bashing X-2, bashing XIII, arguing over whether VI or VII is superior, hating Tidus, hating Hope, wishing Sephiroth would "stab" them with his big "sword," bashing any of the spin-offs... it's all just unbearable. I like the series as a whole, stop telling me why I should hate any particular entry or citing the "HA HA HA" scene as bad voice acting or that Hope is a whiner for actually being upset that his mom died... I do not care what you think.
Also, stop asking for Cloud in the next Smash Bros game. Unless FFVII is ported to/remade for a Nintendo system, it ain't going to happen.

You make some very good points, some of which I have made my self in the past. However, I still maintain that a good barometer of a "fanboy", is someone who you simply cannot reason with or have a decent discussion/debate with about a topic they are uber "fanboyish" about. I think that would, indeed, constitute as a fanboy.

You're right, in saying that a lot of people on the internet throw that label around far too much, for any reason, just to disregard arguments or opinions they don't agree with (something else I just said myself a few posts up). But I don't think that means there aren't REAL fanboys out there, because too many of us come across them. The arguments that ensue are headache inducing, to put it mildly. In fact, I will go ahead and say that there are at least a good handful of such folks that troll around (pun intended) GN as well. It's sort of the same thing as stereotyping a specific group of people. By and large, most of the people in that group probably don't fit the stereotype, and thus don't deserve to BE stereotyped. However, sadly, there always ARE the few who do in fact live out and embody the stereotype, ruining things for everyone else. I would say that fits for "fanboyism" as well.

Most fanboys/girls are just too hilarious to take seriously. Especially the ones who insist they're right no matter what.

That being said, there is one group that infuriated me to no end. Only fellow bronies will get this one, but it's Derpy fans. When "Derpygate" occurred, I almost left the fandom outright because of the crapstorm that followed. They acted as though the whole show got canceled or something. I still hold that episode up as a counterargument to someone who once said bronies were "religion done right".

Any fanboys that are "X THING IS BEST, Y THING SUCKS" all the time.

Also, any "anti-fans" - anyone that will constantly attack and insult Y thing (or people who like Y thing) just because they don't like it, often seeking out fansites/fans just to write about how much it sucks. Or when it's a series that has a "rivalry" or something with the other's fandom (fandom rivalries are dumb anyway)
It's okay to not like things, but don't be a dick about the things you don't like.

Pokémon nostalgiapurists, aka. "THERE ARE ONLY 150 POKÉMON, ANYTHING ELSE SUCKS AND DOESN'T COUNT". It's fine if you prefer or only like the 1st gen, and I understand nostalgic feelings (and I admit some of the reason Johto/gen 2 is my favorite gen is that my first pokémon game was Crystal) but that doesn't mean the other ones "doesn't count" and that they shouldn't be considered "real Pokemon". If it's an officially released Pokémon game, then it's a "real" Pokémon, like it or not.

PC fanboys considering themselves "superior" to console gamers. Making a joke now and then is one thing, but then there are those who honestly thinks of themselves as "better" just because they use a different thing to play games. I get it, your computer is expensive and really advanced and you built it yourself, but I really just care about how fun and entertaining a game is.

More of a reaction to certain fanboys/girls, but when people dislike a series just because some of the fans are annoying, even if they know nothing about the series in itself. Or disregard you just because you happen to like so-and-so, even though you're not one of "those" fans. (That being said, I'm annoyed - really annoyed - with parts of the fandom in some of my own fandoms, gaming or otherwise)

People who think their series/company/ect. is 100% flawless all the time and refuse to see any faults. I love Nintendo and their games, for example, but that doesn't mean I'm happy with everything they have been doing lately... and I can understand criticism about the things I like, even when I might not personally agree.

I hate fangirls that are the "WE ARE GIRLS, AND YEA WE PLAY GAMEZ!!". So, in other words, gamergirls who are SOOO focused on fitting in and being accepted by "hardcore" gamers. If you play games, then just play games, no need to join a group of other "hardcore" girl gamers to let every male gamer know that you play Call of Duty and GTA just like they do.

I mean, damn, that REALLY pisses me off.

No, getting angry about videogames is not a productive use of emotion.

That said, large elements of the Zelda fanbase in general seem to succumb to madness whenever a new game drops. Aside from the 8.8 insanity over Twilight Princess, I remember in the Gamespot review for Skyward Sword where the guy correctly outlined issues with the controls, especially in relation to the crummy M+ based aiming, and so many people went completely buck wild (with one particularly deranged individual going so far as to make some sort of video response). Good grief.

Also, the misplaced devotion some people have for Sonic games circa 1998-2010 or Rareware games circa 1985-2002 continues to escape me.
