Rumors and speculation can be fun, and I think in fifteen days we'll look back on this and laugh...(I hope).

What I don't understand is--other than the sheer shock value of merging the two franchises--why couldn't they have Samus' ship in Star Fox-esque dog fights and air battles?

i think people are overreacting to this. 1st person metroid and on rails star fox action? My guess is most people here would like these games individually, so don't freak out because they may come together.

The ONLY logic behind a crossover of these 2 series' from Retro is that Iwata gave Retro the chance to characterize Samus Aran themselves, and Retro thought it would be good to have peers around her, aka other Mercenaries/Bounty Hunters, without it getting too out of control and terrible, all the while having it MAKE SENSE.

True, but why go to the extra effort of carefully shoe-horning Star Fox characters in when you could just make up some far more fitting new characters? I guess I'm just not massive on cross-overs. Except things like Smash Bros, but only because it's so silly.

And that worked SO WELL last time, didn't it? With Star Fox, you'd have a nice foil of a bunch of jokers against a serious, solitary warrior/bounty hunter.

Did you not ever watch the 80's TMNT cartoon and hear Michelangelo talk about a pepperoni and ice cream pizza with extra cheese? None of the toppings the Turtles put on their pizza made sense or looked good after somebody would try a real recipe[thank God for CiCi's pizza], but it made you really hungry.

I think it can be cool and bring some fresh air to the two series... if they do it properly and don't waste their time adding the minus from each one to the other! Ok, it's Retro, so it can only be great and at least they know how to create a fantastic Metroid experience, maybee better than Nintendo themself.

I love both, but it will not satisfy my Metroid needs, if I know, that theres flying rabbits and toads orbitting the planet. Despite both being "space games" they are awful mix, and I will lose a big portion of my faith in both Retro and Nintendo if I see them wasting their limited full AAA efforts/generation into this kind of nonsense. (of course I must reserve my rights to change my opinions when I see it with my own eyes)

A high quality, but a bit smaller, AA asynchronous multiplayer snack, like the last years E3 demo would be fantastic though!!! Perhaps smallish campaign, with single player missions for both character sets (and even co-op sections!) for easing the yearning of the "proper" AAA efforts in both series, but their canons cannot never touch or it createst a black hole, and either series dies horrible and vain death.

If this rumor has truth in it, I do believe that the gameplay could be right. I don't think that Retro is making a crossover between the two series, but they could be making a new IP that combines both gameplay elements. Regardless, we'll find out in a week I suppose.

I don't see how you can post all of that info about it and then just say that there's no truth to the rumor. Doesn't make sense to me.
