I don't consider it a leak either but you need to take everything into consideration, while not jumping to early conclusions.
And I can't verify it myself if he said it being a clear "just Mario" game, since I didn't watch it, but it sounds plausible.

I just don't get hyped up over vague statements. now if he had said 'a 3d mario game and here is some screens and a trailer' all aboard the hype train.

but 'mario is gonna be on a nintendo console' is a safer prediction than 'the sun will rise'

yea, but everyone with a keyboard is saying that. I just don't believe people making easy claims actually know anything, without evidence.

before the event, such claims drive views and attention, and aftwards, no one cares if you were right or wrong.

No it's not, no one believes in dogs as Goddesses. =P

And lately Mario has been around the mid-term or first half of the life of a console. So who knows?

Re: Wii U - Nintendo's Next Console

I've been thinking lately about the trophy/achievement systems we currently have, and whether Nintendo will incorporate something similar. The main problem I feel with the current systems we have in place is that it's just simply not interesting enough. Sure, I like to look at the kinds of things my friends have done in-game, but a static list of accomplishments is such a drab way to present this information.

I don't think Nintendo would take such a systematic approach. I would like to see something similar to the PS3 system in terms of grouping them into individual games with percentages as opposed to a catch-all gamerscore, but with the following Nintendo twist;

Instead of being trophies in name-only, upon accomplishing one of these set tasks for a game you would actually unlock a 3D model of a character/item/location or whatever that you could look at, exactly like in the Smash Bros. series. I don't know about you guys but I felt getting the trophies in Smash was very rewarding, and this would be a way to incorporate that into the main system and making the achievements feel like they actually MEAN something. If it would be too much to expect third parties to make 3D models to Nintendo's specification for this system, they could also use 2D cards instead of trophies, with an image and a short description of the character/item/whatever. (Similar to the Heroes & Heralds mode in UMvC3).

As an added bonus, if Nintendo gave each trophy/card it's own hidden attributes they could later release a 'Trophy/Card Battler' game on the eShop, somewhat similar to a TCG but with the trophies/cards you have unlocked from your in-game achievements, for battling your friends on your friends list. Also, they could use the NFC tech in the UPad to sell booster packs for this game, which is something Nintendo could make a lot of money on if handled right. The Kid Icarus cards could be seen as baby steps towards something like this.

I dunno, just thought it would be nice to have something a little more engaging to unlock rather than a 'ding' sound and an addition to a static list. What are your thoughts on where Nintendo will go with the achievement/trophy system (if you think they will even incorporate one in the first place?)

I agree that if Nintendo does achievements that it needs to have it's own Nintendo spin on them, but I don't know if we would get actual trophies of stuff. Sounds like it would take up space on a SD/HDD (more so than achievements already do). Sure they'd be small in file size, but if you're going to use the Wii U as your main console then that would add up....and I don't want my achievements taking up space that I could have something else on my storage medium with. If it was something that you could only view in game, then that would be neat, but no point if the problem is a static achievement list when you look through your achievements for personal reasons or to compare with friends.

Like I said, I completely think that if achievements are done they would be done with a different spin on them. They could do a whole lot of different things. They could have it unlock outfits for your Mii (and I don't mind something like that taking up space....double standard? lol), they could implement minigames like the 3DS streetpass plaza has and use achievements to get you through said minigames (but then again there are rumors that there could be a device used for streetpass on the Wii U...if thats true then there would be no reason for that), or they could do anything really. I can pretty much guarantee that it won't exactly be what's done before. Whether or not it's a slight change along the lines of PS3 or a big change like actual trophies to view is a whole nother story. I do think your idea is pretty neat, I hope I didn't come off as I was "arguing". Can't tell because I only got 3 hours of sleep...if so I apologize.

Hahah no, not at all, I'm glad someone else has put some thought into it!

You know, it never really crossed my mind that they'd have to use on-board space to do it. I suppose how viable it is is completely dependant on how much on-board space the Wii U SKU ships with. They could always do 2D images as cards like I said though, or Mii clothing (return of hats?) as you suggested would be another great, space-saving solution.

I'm not sure, I just REALLY would like to see something other than a boring list.

Want to make it interesting, and something to actually strive for...? Make them redeemable for Club Nintendo Coins. From 1-10, depending on how hard they are to get in each game. Third party games, would of course, not be eligible. :)

Today marks the completion of that list, and I'd like to share it with all of you! You can find my blog on IGN's front page, or by clicking on the link below!

I know a first-party Wii U game in development. Not an obvious one. But something mentioned a few times. Not Mario or Zelda or Pokemon related.

Yes, the idea of having Origin, uPlay, CoD Elite, Battle.net, SteamWorks and whatever on a single system sounds like a complete clusterfuck - but it doesn't have to be. Technically, all those systems could be backends with a common frontend, which would be Nintendo Network. The only thing Nintendo would need to do is to provide basic infrastructure - authentication, contacts, messaging and shop, and maybe what Ubisoft hinted at with Ghost Feed. Every publisher can have his own backend, but it'll be completely transparent to the user - a single account, a single login, a single friend list.

I have one question: After E3, are you going to go back to the list and see which ones were true and false? That would be quite awesome.

But anyways, congrats on making the front page of IGN! I cannot believe there are close to 90 rumors out there...and I'm pretty sure it will make it up to at least 95(Maybe 100?) by time E3 officially gets here.

It's quite sad to mention that none of those rumors are about Donkey Kong. :(

Dual Releases? hmm Nintendo is taking another Stab at the Handheld to Console Connectivity...Good. I expect a new Four Swords, that game is so under-rated.

It'd fit in line with the NSMB2 rumors, the Luigi's Mansion 2 on Wii U rumor, and the Animal Crossing scenario he puts out there.

It does sound awesome the connectivity but it also sounds a lot of work, as well as not many people having both systems.

However, I do hope they try it more with their games.

When they do it with Pokemon, they need to do it better than Battle Revolution, The Game had good concepts but it just felt like a rushed cash grab. They need to put in all the Gym Leaders and all the Elite Fours in the game as well as other things to do (besides battling)

Thanks! And yes, I do plan to go back and check things off the list after E3. I think when I started the list last week I only found around 50. And how the list has grown! :O Too bad DK for Wii U was nowhere to be found. Who knows? Maybe E3 will bring us more surprises!

Ok, good. lol

I thought about it more as I tried to sleep more today. Trophies could work, but instead of several trophies per game there's one that pays homage to the whole game. (kind of like a scenery thing) Every "achievement" you earn gains you a nother segment/piece of this trophy. (could be a 2D image that becames a 3D environment. That you can look at like a trophy. Stems from the puzzle piece thing in place on the 3DS and combines it with your trophy idea)

~These are rumours and speculations. Please do not take them as facts.~

In B3D Forum, Li Mu Bai, a user in B3D Forum, strongly believes that the Wii U will not run Unreal Engine 4 (even though we are not sure if that is entirely true or not). Here is what he has to say.
Li Mu Bai (B3D Forums) wrote:The Wii U "officially" will not run UE4, this is no surprise to anyone here. (I said as much) An official confirmation of sorts from Geoff Keighley, via twitter, courtesy of Nirolak at Neo-Gaf: http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=475868 I said that it was a transitional console, I didn't mince words. This term was meant to clearly deliniate the Wii U as beyond this console generation's visual & feature set capabilities, though not occupying the same technical power space as the Orbis & Durango.
http://forum.beyond3d.com/showpost.php? ... count=1030

I think that people will that this is true since they think that Nintendo does not give a s**t about the power of the Wii U, but I still doubt the validity of this statement since Epic clearly said:

Epic wrote:(Epic) has not confirmed platforms for Unreal Engine 4 beyond PC.
http://www.computerandvideogames.com/349607/unreal-engine-4-epic-says-it-has-not-declared-its-wii-u-strategy/

According to Li Mu Bai, the GPU of the Wii U is capable of doing most the modern rendering & shading techniques that the supposed GPU of the PlayStation 4 & XBOX 720 can do. Here is what he said:
Li Mu Bai (B3D Forum) wrote:Despite being the weakest of the three, the Wii U's GPU supports most modern rendering/shading techniques. The usual suspects then are main system RAM, or the CPU.

http://forum.beyond3d.com/showpost.php? ... count=1037

If this is confirmed true, I will take that as both good and bad news. What do you think?

And right at the beginning it says "officially", which is the one epic will demostrate on pc using multiple cards. Following the rumor's logic, a third party studio, or maybe even epic, modifing the engine to require less ram or cpu resources wouldnt be out of the question because the wiiu would have the required feature set, like ubi did with the wii and the ue2.5.
