A suggestion for comments

Postby gtt » 02 Jun 2012 23:19

Listening to the podcast this week I had an idea, instead of RMC just reading the first comment why not a system where we can vote on comments and he could read the top comment? would fix the issue whereby some people post just a single character as a comment and then go back and edit it. and I think it would be neat to see what everyone thinks the top comments are.

idk, I just like community engagement. probably too much work.

This would involve adding a plus / minus to every single post. I have been on sites that use this feature, and a lot of times it works out quite well. Although, if we were to do this here we should be able to arrange the posts by "time" or by "most liked". It really would be interesting and would be a lot better than fighting over who posts first. It is all about quality, not quantity.

We need to see what Cort of Tduck thing. :P

personally I'd rather just see a plus for comments, I'd rather we'd think positively, instead of negatively.

It can be cool but anyway, just give a try and see how people react. but keep in mind that editing is a good tool, i'm not native and sometimes i notice my mystakes while rereading myselft when edit is done. i'm not the only one but maybee i can try to change my way of posting too and use the preview button... so give a try!
and yes plus only, it's a fan site, not a trial. ;)

Agreed. If such a system would be put into place, I think it would be best to go that route.

I'm in full support of your idea @gtt. I got real sick of seeing @LegendofSantiago posting first with something short then editing it with a well thoughtout comment on almost every article that would surely get many views and comments. Never giving anyone else who had a well thoughtout comment ready a chance. -_-

funny.. i've actually been thinking about and looking into possible solutions for a rating system. it might not be an immediately doable thing considering all of our busy schedules, but it's at least an idea worth checking into. thanks for putting some more fuel on that fire!

as for the comment editing; sounds like kind of an abuse to me if people are typing placeholders like that. in fact, that's one of the main reasons we have to heavily moderate (lock/unlock, and disallow editing) for the podcast questions thread... people were typing "more coming" and then just before their post would be read, they'd type in 4 pages of text, 20 questions, and whatnot.

i like giving people usable features for the site, but anyone caught abusing it by making something unfair or otherwise less enjoyable, that can't be happening. promptly report these instances and the mods can take it from there!!

Sounds like a good idea I do edit what I say but only to fix grammar and spelling

It really helps to those who abuse the edit feature and I'm pretty sure it would be like Mario Kart racing to see who gets to be FIRST SECOND THIRD
