ZombiU

Postby Sailing_Day » 05 Jun 2012 18:49

Anyone else looking forward to ZombiU? I have to say, I was skeptical after all they showed was pre-rendered footage at the presentation. After seeing some live gameplay footage at GTTV, though, this has become my most anticipated Wii U game. The particular gameplay concept that really interests me is how you only get one life, and when you die, you start off as another survivor, and you have to go search for your old character, who is now a zombie, so you can get your items back. I feel this mechanic is fantastic for a survival horror title, and will add another layer of attachment to your character, so you have to be more careful. There's so much potential for memorable gameplay moments and multiplayer, it's left me stoked.

Also, I wonder if this is an evolution of Killer Freaks From Outer Space, or if that game is still in development. Either way, mot of my hopes for the Wii U are riding on This game and Pikmin 3.

Zombie, Me? No, ZombiU!

Postby Wonks » 05 Jun 2012 19:04

Why did I drop out of Zombi U? The professors were a bunch of stiffs. ;)

When it was announced, I was surprised how it piqued my interest, too. There's something visceral about a zombie apocolypse, I suppose. Once I saw the gameplay trailer (below), I became instantly impressed with the tension the game presents during your escape, and the versatility of the GamePad.

Interesting to note, several sites have reported that "Zombi" was Ubi's first ever game released. Talk about a retro revival.

For me, this is the most exciting hardocre third-party title for the Wii U. Others are just ports.

when I finally heard that it works the way it does, with one life and you have to go and get your survival kit again. that wasn't at either ubi or nintendo's presser. that shovel is cool.

I'm also very excited for this game. And I'll share something awesome with you (if you didn't know this already)...

In the CG trailer, you see people being attacked by zombies. What's actually happening is each person you see being attacked has already been bitten. If you look closely, you can see evidence of the infection on their skin. The person being attacked then becomes a zombie...that is, the zombie you see in the next clip! And this cycle continues until the very end. Then it resets because the last guy in the red coat (who's chopping off a zombie head) is the zombie being thrown out the window in the very first scene.

If you didn't know this, rewatch the CG trailer and be amazed! No doubt, this is one of the best game trailers ever.

(I think I'm going to share this with RMC in case he wants to post this info.)

the game concept and the ideas sound really quite good, but it looks rather generic. I hope that's just because it's not finished yet and the end product will look closer to what the trailer shows.

the best parts from what I've heard
1. the inventory management happens on the touch screen, but doesn't pause the game. So it's as though you are looking through your backpack as zombies are creeping up on you, so you have to stay alert to any sound or movement out of the corner of your eyes.

2. When you die you respawn as a different person from the last checkpoint, and your previous character becomes a zombie that you can kill and get your inventory back.

I really like these ideas, and if they execute well on the rest of the game it could be one of the best survival horror games in a long time.

Huge 180 on this game from complete disinterest to excitedly anticipating. The best part is the game looks solid, as opposed to Red Steel, which left a bad taste in peoples mouths once they got their hands on it.

I love the concept of permadeath, especially how you will show up in friends games as a special zombie in the location that you died.

It's been confirmed that this game is what was once called Killer Freaks of Outer Space. I think it's for the better, but I will really miss those aliens (kinda like the rabbids of the rayman games). Hopefully we will se them again in some other game or something.

I just wonder how long the game is. I've heard a couple times the rep saying 3 hours in (when refering to a players progression), I just hope the experience isn't just a few hours long, relying on difficulty (single hit kills) and repetition to increase the play time. I know games like left for dead are short and are full priced games, but it'd be disappointing if this game is only a few hours of content just repeated with different characters.

That was one of my worries, too. I was thinking that Ubi would include a lot of additional features or modes of play to detract from this and expand on the overall replay value.

By the way, has anyone heard details regarding the online multiplayer? I didn't even realize the game had online until I read this excerpt from Nintendo's own website:

MERCY KILLER – When your character gets infected, your online friends are alerted of your death and can come and hunt down your zombified character to loot the gear in your BOB and put you out of your misery!

ZombiU- New footage from the new build (looks much better)

Postby Hisiru » 13 Jul 2012 19:08

Hey guys, Ubisoft just released 2 brand new videos showing the new build of the game at Comic Con. IGN also released a hands on video on this new build, so I have 3 new videos for you guys. :)

First, it's Buckingham Palace footage (try to watch it in 720p, then you will see that this game looks much better now)

Second, it's the Nursery trailer (again, try to watch it in 720p):

I watched those 2 videos and I was like "no way Ubisoft improved this game like this, it's probably just another CG movie or somehting like that" and then I watched the IGN hands on with the new build:
http://www.ign.com/videos/2012/07/12/zo ... c-con-2012

I hope you guys enjoy it. I love the concept of this game. Day 1 baby!

What do you guys think about it?

After seeing these trailers I just realised they could apply pointer controls and keep all the gameplay "intact" by doing it just like in these videos with the equipment/unlocking screens poping up when needed.
Has there been any info about wiimote controls?

With DayZ being the only Zombie game I've played... maybe since SNES's Zombies Ate My Neighbors... I think that I'll be picking this up at launch. I like the survival aspect, and the Gamepad controls seem really intuitive.

EDIT!!! Whoa, I take that first part back, I don't know how the Resident Evil series slipped my mind... anyways I played most of the Gamecube REs and I played Revelations on my 3DS...

This is a launch game, correct? Well it could potentially be a day one pick up for me as I don't see anything else interesting... Unless Batman Armored Edition is a launch title, is it not?
You have to learn the rules of the game. And then you have to play better than anyone else.

So I think I may have encountered a game ending bug.

Spoiler:
I just got the medicine in the nursery, but died before I could unbar the door at the top of the stairs. Next survivor, I couldn't open that door from the other side because it is still locked, but the door at the bottom of the stairs after I drop down won't prompt me to open it. Does anyone know a way around this, or do I have to start over?
