Here is a DirectX Tech Demo that focuses on the effect called depth-in-field. It is one of DirectX 11's main features, and the video itself says it is hardware demanding. Now, you ask, what does this have to do with the Wii U? Please, let's take another look at the Pikmin 3 trailer:
See the effect they used? It looks similar to the one seen in the tech demo above, and is used to make it look like tilt-shift photography. Maybe this can be considered proof of the Wii U's graphics processor capability of running DirectX 11 features. This of course isn't confirmed, so we have to wait and see, but it is certainly a good thing
