Super Smash Bros. U - The Long Wait Thread

Everything about the Wii and its games...

I don't think Tekken Tag Tournament 2 coming to Wii U is much coincidence, to be honest. Now if a Nintendo character is revealed as an added bonus for it, you may be onto something (but as we saw with Link in SC2, it'd do more than enough, so...maybe that's happen). But the timing for that game's release coincides with the release of Wii U, and that's really all I see it as.

Plus, we're not really seeing Capcom pining to bring out UMvC3 or SFxT on it, so the market for Namco is open in terms of fighting games on the system at launch. But I guess this means there won't be Nintendo X Capcom. And that's probably a good thing, all things considered.

- Why No Lucas? Dirty clone of Ness, done as promo for Mother 3. No longer relevant.
- Why No ROB? Characters have to be cut from older releases, plain and simple.
- Why No Lucario? Pretty pointless copy/paste of Mewtwo. Unlike other clones, it's completely stagnant
- Why No Toon Link? Again, another case of relevance. But we might get Wolf Link+Midna instead. I hope not.
- Why No ZSS? Um...I think after Other M tanking, they'll remove ZSS as a popularity thing, even though Other M was a lazy job all around. Even though ZSS was a High Tier Character.

I'd personally like them to go to Gen 2 Pokemon Trainer as well.

You mean like no one from that franchise at all? Well, I have always been surprised they haven't put Little Mac in there, I mean fighting is what he does. Then of course there is excitebike guy and Duck Hunt Dog. Actually Duck Hunt dog would be good, I've been waiting to smash him in the face for 25 years. I know the one everybody wants is Geno, which would be kind of cool, but I honestly didn't like him and never put him in my party. They also have Golden Sun characters they could use. Starfy could make a pretty cool character. Or Pilotwings, but they would probably be pretty lame characters for Smash Bros.

Yeah, I don't want their Tekken, Tales, Square Enix, Final Fantasy, Dragon Quest, Soul Calibur, and other shovel like that in the next Smash Bros! I don't think fighters or characters (anime) from those games will fit much with Smash Bros. Those games are more about crazy combos and rely on a health bar and are all about landing a bunch of big damage-dealing hits in a short amount of time. I hope Sakurai keeps a close eye on them to prevent them from trying to add too much of their own stuff in there to try to make it as much as their game as possible and to prevent them from going overboard from trying to add their own twists on the game.I'm fine with maybe Pac-Man, but no anime, Japanese fighters please! Maybe 1 or 2 is acceptable... MAYBE.They better just try to keep that stuff on the Street Fighter, Tales, Tekken, etc, games as much as possible and save such ideas for those games! This is one series Nintendo does NOT want to screw up! Still,as long as such restrictions are met, I'm interested and excited to see what such collaboration of such teams can do on such a series! I can't wait to see the results, especially since they have what they claim to be fighting game experts working hard at the game! :D I have hope this will be the best and most fun Smash Bros yet with some fast-paced action and combos while still keeping what a Smash Bros game is intact! I now eagerly wait the 1st trailer... which will probably be at next year's E3.

Know who should be in Smash 4, Batman. :p

In all seriousness though, I'm kinda hoping this game is a cross over. Smash Bros 4 Nintendo x Namco

Mario vs Pac-man
Capt. falcon Vs Jin
Link Vs yoshimitsu
Yoshi Vs Gon

Any character can fit into Smash. Chill out. Also I don't think they are going to go crazy with adding a bunch of other companies stuff. Smash will first and foremost be all about Nintendo, but even if they did add Tekken, Tales, Final Fantasy, Dragon Quest, Street Fighter, and Soul Calibur (left out Square Enix because that was redundant) characters they would all feel like they belonged in Smash. The only games that "rely on crazy combos" are Tekken, Street Fighter, and Soul Calibur. So if that's your main complaint just have them on your list, and not the others. (And again, if those characters were in a Smash game, they would play like Smash characters)

I just don't want the roster to have one too many anime and Japanese characters in it. Their looks just won't feel right with the series EVEN if they play like a Smash Bros character. I can deal with Pit, the Fire Emblem characters, etc, because at least they're all Nintendo property. And plus, such characters from other companies and series usually have their own distinct feel and looks. I don't want the game to feel like a "Nintendo vs Japanese, anime characters" game more than a Smash Bros game, is pretty much what I'm trying to say. But yeah, I'm probably worrying over nothing. I'm sure there will be a balance in character selection. :)

If any anime characters appear in Smash Bros. U/3DS I'm banning you all for treason. Smash Bros. is about VIDEO GAME CHARACTERS and including an anime character would be a complete betrayal to what it stands for.

- Ness is cool, but Lucas was fine. I don't really see them arbitrarily dropping characters, considering the game will most likely have more, not less, characters.
- I would say R.O.B. has to stay. He's an iconic part of Nintendo's past, and people (like me) like him. Plus he was a good and unique character.
-Lucario may be, in your words, a copy/paste of Mewtwo. But Mew and Mewtwo were always terrible characters to my mind anyway, and Lucario at least looked more interesting. To me.
-Toon Link we agree on. He didn't actually need to be in Brawl as it was, I felt that was (like Snake) a waste of a roster spot that should have gone to someone like Little Mac
-ZSS isn't much of a big deal, because it's not really a whole other character, it's like Zelda/Shiek. I'd see it staying, personally. Though we agree on Other M being a terrible job, and I continue to blame Team Ninja, who aren't good at making games in the first place.

As for a Gen 2 Pokemon trainer? *shrugs* I think there's way more than enough Pokemon as it is, and I kind of liked the generic "Pokemon Trainer" anyway, even though I mostly just played Charizard.

As far as characters I think HAVE to be in it, I would say Little Mac for sure. He should have been playable in Brawl. And with Namco involved, which I'm still not terribly enthused with, if they're going to slap ANY of their own characters in, it better just be Pac Man, and that's about it. I don't want to see any of their modern characters, personally. Smash Bros. is and should remain 99% Nintendo franchise inspired.

It depends on what third party characters we are talking about. Take characters like Mega Man and Bomberman for instance. Some would argue those third party characters have been a bigger presence on Nintendo consoles/handhelds than some of Nintendo's lesser known franchises. Especially since both began life on NES and had sequels on SNES, Nintendo 64, GameCube, Wiiware, all the Game Boys, and DS's.

Bomberman and Mega Man might be third party characters, but they feel like Nintendo characters to me.

Hudson Soft was absorbed by Konami, so I guess Bomberman is now Konami property? Is that the case, and if Snake and Sonic were to stay, Bomberman wouldn't be accepted...

About the new characters I mentioned before, I was meaning IPs that weren't featured in any form in the previous Smash titles, like in trophies, stickers, stage cameos, etc.

Ubisoft has been supporting Nintendo a lot lately, I could see one of their characters being in the game.

And if they remove Snake, do you think there will be more chance to see Bomberman as Konami's rep?
Anyway, the only 3rd party characters I truly want are:
Sonic to stay, Snake to be removed and Bomberman taking it's (rightful) place, Pac-Man, a Dragon Quest Hero (not a freaking Slime, see my previous post about who I'd like to see from DQ), Rayman and Mega Man (as long as Capcom doesn't force Sakurai to make it on-disc DLC).

Just some brief thoughts off the top of my head.

I know it's a somewhat arbitrary number, but I hope Smash 4 has only 2 third party reps. As much as I like Sonic, I think it would be better if they rotated third party characters every entry. So out with snake and sonic, in with Mega Man and what I'd assume is going to be someone from Namco. (Personally hoping for Sheena or at least someone from Symphonia.)

For Nintendo characters...

I wish they'd bring back Mewtwo, but I can see Lucario being ousted for a 6th gen rep. (By the time of the games release, I imagine gen 6 will be out or soon be out.)

More Kid Icarus characters! Seeing as Sakurai was the lead on KI:U, I think one, maybe two characters from the game are shoe ins. Palutena and hopefully Viridi.

Another Metroid character. Who, I have no idea.

Little Mac is in if Nintendo has plans for another Punch Out entry. I can also see another one or two characters who were assists in Brawl being made playable.

Remove Ike for someone from the new Fire Emblem (or the one that may be coming out all those years down the road.)

And just for fun Rosalina from Mario Galaxy.

Rayman would probably be the best choice then. Second best would be a Rabbid, considering those games have by and large shown up on Nintendo platforms.

I still want Mega Man from Capcom in Smash Bros., as well as the return of Sonic and Snake from Brawl.

Wait................you finally respond to something I say, not directed at you? Hmmmm....

But honestly, you do say something I agree with. I think (barring Sonic because people wanted to see Mario vs. Sonic), that any third party characters should have started life on a Nintendo console, and to me, preferably have a long history with Nintendo, usually meaning NES/SNES. That would include, for me, Simon Belmont (would have been SO much better than Solid Snake, period), Bomberman, classic Mega Man (no other modern version, just the original), I would accept Pac-Man for his classic status (and there were Pac-Man games on NES and SNES), etc.

But I still wouldn't want to see too many.

I find it almost comical that there isn't a single legit reason why there shouldn't be more third party characters or that it shouldn't be a cross over fighter.

Seriously, Smash Bros not "Nintendo: The Fighters" >_>

Easy, Smash Bros. was created in Hal Laboratories firstly as a game called Dragon King, after Sakurai and his workers secretly put Nintendo characters as the fighters in the game, Iwata thought it would be a good idea that the Nintendo characters fight each other. After that, it's a tradition for it to be Nintendo-only characters, and after some time Sakurai accepted the suggestions of Kojima to put Snake in the series.

If it weren't nintendo characters they wouldn't be Smash Brothers, after all.

Because then it would be Gaming's All-Stars: Battle Royale (Sorry, could find a better title) and it could lose potentially a lot of what makes Smash Bros. Smash Bros.

What makes Smash Bros. Smash Bros is the game itself not the roster. The amount of unlockables, the trophies, the game modes, and the game mechanics. What would make smash bad is if they tried to change the way the game played not if they wanted to add more then just 2 3rd party characters to the roster.

The way Einar1025 phrased it made me think that he wanted Smash Bros. to be something like a massive crossover between multiple gaming stars, I was replying to the crossover fighter thing (it already is). My problem is not the possibility of adding more than 2 3rd party characters (if you see my previous post, you can see that I pretty much approve the idea), the thing I don't want in Smash Bros. is more than 2 characters per 3rd party, otherwise, other companies could start requesting characters like crazy.
If you want a crossover featuring multiple gaming characters, you'd be better developing a completely new game *looks at Project X Zone*. But I agree with you, I play Smash mostly for the amount of unlockables and the mechanics. I played TMNT: Smash-Up and it didn't felt like Smash to me for those reasons. The only REAL thing i don't want in Smash Bros. is if they use Metroid: Other M as the flagship title of the series and the game where they get the designs from (I still hate the Power Suit design).

If Smash wasn't first and foremost about celebrating Nintendo's history specifically, Sakurai himself wouldn't have been so strict about only including characters that had a strong presence on Nintendo systems for Brawl's roster.

No reason this game should be any different.

What I want is assist trophies that have square enix characters. Neku Sakuraba from twewy anyone? But in reality, I reckon that we'll get miis. I would like to see hats (like in streetpass quest) alter the attacks though. That would make up for even putting miis in there.

I've been wanting another Metroid character for some time now! My votes would go for Dark Samus (no, she will NOT be a 'clone' of Samus because she has her own distinct moves such as hovering, shooting multiple power beams at once [whereas Samus can only shoot one at a time], she can split herself into 2 or more copies, she can enshroud herself in a ball and then tackle you with it [not talking about morph ball], has an energy shield that repels all weapons, and uses Phazon to heal herself and to power up her attacks), Rundas from Metroid Prime 3, or Sylux from Metroid Prime Hunters. Ridley would be awesome if the size of him was just right (like in the intro for Melee).
