...what Final Fantasy XII should have been.

Seriously. When FFXII opened up on the underworld, it was decent for a minute, but all those one path linear levels just weren't right for an RPG like FF. Xenoblade is completely opened up, like FFXIII should have been. The entire world is practically like the underworld of FFXIII. This isn't the only similarity by far. I didn't like FFXIII where you only got to control one character and set up strategies. I mean, it was cool, but it wasn't FF. SO I was worried going into Xeno I wasn't going to like it, but it just does it right, and I still have times where I get to control the other characters' moves during battle.

There are more similarities but done better, imo, in Xeno too.

Cort would be the guy to talk to if you want to know what happened in detail..

You also said "That is all" at the end of your post, so maybe he thought that was the end of the thread...

i wasn't the one who caught that, but basically, dude created a spam thread. Didn't have any substance or content. Didn't have a proper title or even a complete sentence inside. Earned him a warning for spamming from the mod who did catch it.

If you have something to say, great. Just check if we have a thread for it already, and at least give a decent try. Then post wherever you need to.

add some double posting, off topic-ness, and insulting the mods who are just doing their jobs (lol, who's really being the dick by saying something like that, anyway?); earns you a ban. cheers! :D

wait, are you complaining about XII, XIII, or both?
Also, I heard Last Story is the game FFXIII should have been, but i take that statement as seriously as i've taken yours.

Anyone still playing? For some reason, I've crossed 130+ hours  and have yet to reach
Spoiler:
the Mechonis Core.

I think I'm abiding time because there's still so much left to do and I've enjoyed getting the affinity chart levels up and getting everyone's fourth skill tree. <-- That shouldn't be a spoiler b/c it takes sooooo many methodical steps to figure out about extra skill trees in the first place.

I had to set it down for a few weeks for a project I was on but now that it's done I should be picking this game back up soon. I'm basically doing the same thing you're doing, trying to do as much of the quests and everything as possible, except I'm on New Game+. I know, that's kind of cheating. I'm around Valak Mountains at the moment, though.

Haven't beat the game yet of course, but what does New Game+ entail exactly? What carries over?

I've been very active on this game for a whole month, over 160 hours and I've already finished the game a long time ago lol

your choice of 30 weapons, and 30 of each armor type, as well as some materials and collectables I think. Exp carries over so you can just breeze by the story again. character affinity carries over but not the heart to hearts so you can view them again, skill trees and links carries over. missions do reset so you would have to do all of them over again. I think thats it, nothing majorly new as far as I'm aware of.

This game is awesome. The quest are addictive to complete. I'm currently 78 hours in. I have a question:
Spoiler:
How many hours of main game story do I have left if I just got to Sword valley?

The time-left questions are always difficult to answer when you factor in side-questing. You could have anywhere between 20-70+ hours left depending on your pacing. But since you specified, how much of the "main story" you have left, I'd guess 30 hours. I think at a faster pace (without questing) you should be like around 40-50 hours rather than 78, so 30 hours left skipping quests I think is about right.

Most of the real meat of the story is just getting started where you're at. Lots of foreshadowing from the Prison Island scene.

So, I just recently started getting into the game (didn't have time before), and I have a couple questions that I would like to ask.

1) I have some side quests that have a clock timer thing next to them. Does that mean I need to do them before something in the story happens and makes them moot, or that I need to do them during a specific period of time/events (or both)

2) I don't remember if there are any repercussions from dying. When you die does anything bad happen (i.e. losing inventory, money, etc)?

....and that's all that I can think of as of now (I feel like I'm forgetting something). I would greatly appreciate any feedback, and by all means, if anything comes to mind, I'm open to advice for the game (as long as it doesn't spoil story)

For anyone curious, I'm at

To answer the questions:
1) The timed quests should be dealt with as soon as possible for you, but they generally won't expire until far later as you work toward "the point of no return". The game should warn you when you are nearing the point where the timed quests will expire.

2) Nothing happens when you die. You just get sent back to the last landmark you visited, but you incur no penalties at all.

1. Clocks next to quests mean that once you advance the plot past a certain point, the quests will expire (incidentally there are quests that only become available if previous quests expire, so no need to sweat). Any point in the story that ends timed quests will present with a Yes/No option, and will only advance and end the quests once you choose Yes.

Sort of. There are multiple sets of timed quests that end at different points in the game. The timed quests where Broken_Cartridge currently is can be ended (the event that makes them expire is optional) after maybe two or three more areas have been passed.

Awesome, thanks for replying to my questions (both of you). I'm definitely glad that they don't do anything crappy to your inventory if you die, and I'm glad I have insight on those timer quests now.

I'm really liking the game so far. If I'm not in the mood for progressing the story there are an abundance of sidequests for me to enjoy (which I've been doing all of them so far), but, at the same time, the game also features a pretty great story that I enjoy when I am in the mood to advance the plot.

Again, I appreciate the incite both of you gave me.

Considering at your point in the story, I'd pay attention to when you get the quest "The Road Home." I was checking side quest faqs and found that I missed a lot of side quests after completing The Road Home. You'll see a lot more after many hours in, but hopefully you'll be relying on the Xenoblade Wikia Side Quest guide by then.

I'm almost 48 hours in now, and I've officially lost the 1 level per hour battle with this game. It needs to stop giving me so many things to do that I need to look up how to do. It really makes me wish the Quest interface and Affinity Charts were more integrated, considering almost everything is. It's a gigantic flaw in a game that I love to death at the moment, and is the reason I keep putting it down.
