i think they were trying to drum up an extra sale. you do not NEED a wireless adapter to get online; the 360 has an ethernet port to get online by default.. so you can just run an ethernet wire from your router to the box, or you can spring the hundred bucks for the wireless adapter to cut the wires. both work equally well in my experience, but i personally prefer ethernet.[/quote]

yeah but I prefer hardline since my connection really sucked with my router. Unless your access point is like 10 feet away from your 360 go with cable.

Or get a better router....

Mine's about 20-25 feet away and goes through several walls and works A-ok. I'm using a $50 Linksys router.

the wireless for online gaming is fine. the only dislike i have about it is how much slower the download speeds of demos are. it takes ages longer than a Ethernet connection.

I was at Circuit City yesterday and they had the 20 gb Pro for 249, which is the best of both worlds. I think it should have HDMI which is a must have to get 1080P on your HDTV.

I think the premium models have been shipping with HDMI since fall 2007. However, you can do 1080p through component. My 360 lacks HDMI, but 1080p works just fine with games. HD-DVD is another matter, but who buys those anyway?

One thing to note: I've experienced an issue with my 360 where the screen would go black for a few seconds in several different games (Bioshock, Gears of War, TF2) whenever there was a lot of action on the screen (e.g. many enemies on screen at the same time, lots of gunfire/muzzle flashes, etc.). Changing my 360 from 1080p to 1080i solved the problem. Not sure if it was caused by the component cables or not, but you can do 1080p without HDMI.

one of the last few updates for 360 included 1080p support through component. but it wasn't universally available.. only some tvs supported it. so the follow-up was supposed to fix any outstanding compatibility issues with 1080p through component. unfortunately, my plasma must be too new for that update, because it still doesn't work; all i get is a blank screen until the system reverts its video settings. and my 360 is too old (no hdmi), so the best i can do is 1080i or 720p.... good enough for most games i guess, since i'm not sure of any that even run at native 1080p anyway.

i'll stick to my ps3 for 1080p needs. each system is fine on its own i guess.

I wonder if my TV is also a bit too new for 1080p to work properly (we just bought a 46" Samsung A650 LCD). My 360 is old, like yours, and doesn't have HDMI. I can do 1080p...but as I mentioned above, I get the blank screen error now and then. 1080i looks great though - I'm not even sure I can tell the difference between that and 1080p. And as you said, I think there's only a handful of 360 games that run at 1080p natively.

When I've just got to have native 1080p through HDMI, I've always got my PS3.
