Nintendo comments on Microsoft's statement comparing Wii U and 360

Microsoft had a lot of nice things to say about the Wii U. They also said that the Wii U Pro controller 'effectively' makes the Wii U and 360. I didn't think the statement was meant as a jab, but a lot of people were miffed with it. The statement made its way back to Nintendo, which lead to the statement below.

The Wii U Pro Controller is an enhanced version of the Classic Controller Pro that has been designed specially to work with the Wii U console. It simply offers another way to play and more options for developers use. We do not compare ourselves to the other consoles.

Not really a big deal to start off with, so not really a big statement in return. It's just a secondary controller for those that like something a bit more traditional.

It definitely looks similar, but whatever. I really want to try it though, although dual analogs are kind of the worst way to play FPS i think the set up on the pro controller is for the best

Nintendo needs to show off a Wii U game with Graphics beyond the 360 and PS3 so people can shut the hell up.

Both controllers were designed to be ergonomic. So, since everybody's hands have the same shape, all controllers are going to look similiar unless something else is added. Example: the Wii U gamepad's touchscreen.

He seems to have ignored the part about how the wiiu had "360-like graphics", which honestly was a more important thing to refute IMO than the shape of the pro controller.
He also seems to have ignored the fact that the old wii pro controllers do not look like the new pro or the 360 controllers.

Oh come on Sony manned up and admitted to borrowing from smash bros and other games, the least Nintendo could do is admit they definitely borrowed from the 360 controller. While the 360 controller was hella comfortable (minus the crappy d-pad), there are many different ways to make a comfortable controller without it having so many similarities.

Nothing wrong with Nintendo copying microsoft because frankly they got the better D-pad lol.

This seems like a from the book answer, but I'm sure their reps would say something similar.

Exactly. How different can the two controllers really be?

Isn't the Classic Controller Pro just a Classic Controller with handles and the triggers moved around? Cause the Classic Controller was a SNES controller with analogs and triggers. No 360 controller involved.

Compared to:

The design of the WiiU Pro Controller is MUCH more closer to that of the 360 than to that of the Wii CCP, and I think its mostly because it was made from scratch unlike the Wii CCP.

Other older controllers dont look that much like the 360pro

why are people STILL going on about this, it's a damn controller. I got to try it at the Wii U experience and it was VERY comfortable, that's all that should really matter.....besides the console manufacturers constantly copy/emulate each other (mostly its Nintendo ideas that are copied).

But to be fair, Sony copied Nintendo and then MS copied Sony, so if Nintendo copied MS, they are well within their rights

Pretty much this, but even still it's Nintendo's layout to begin with and it's really hard to copy your own controller when it was yours originally. The only thing that anyone can say Nintendo copied was adding a second stick, and even that's debatable since the C buttons on the N64 controller pretty much did the same thing as another analog stick, as Nintendo intended them to.

I remember I was in a car with my nephews and nieces once and I heard a Michael Jackson cover come on the radio. I remarked on it and they jumped down my throat saying that I had to have been wrong, that Michael Jackson must have copied it from them.

It was hilarious but also sad and depressing at the same time. There really doesn't seem to be any kind of history anymore. Things happen, they pass, and they're forgotten. Just like how without Nintendo Sony and MS wouldn't even be in this industry and consoles, if anyone would even still be making them, would probably still be using some sort of uncomfortable joystick.

I don't understand how people can argue whether or not the Wii U Pro Pad is a copy of the 360 pad. There may only be so many ways to arrange four face buttons, two analogue sticks, a d-pad and two shoulder buttons, but as someone else pointed out, there are nearly as many controller designs as there are consoles. There was nothing stopping Nintendo using the GC pad shape or CC Pro shape (or a totally unique new design). And the bigger problem is that it doesn't even matter, companies copy ideas from each other all the time (I'm sure I don't need to trot out the usual suspects that Nintendo invented which are now industry standards), just admit that this time Nintendo copied someone else's good idea.

And I really really can't believe how bad the 360's d-pad is, it's like a d-pad shape perched on top of a joystick.

Yeah, people are fixating on the controller issue, but remember he said the console was effectively as powerful as a 7 year old piece of hardware. Them's fightin' words, unless it's true, I guess.

Well... D-pad first came on the NEW and shoulder buttons on the SNES so.... Oh, nevermind.

The graphics. Yes! Where is Gearbox with the "best version of Aliens: Colonial Marines"?

This.

All I care about is 'good games' in the end so as long as it's comfortable, it's a waste of my time to worry about controller comparisons.
