I...really don't find this guy entertaining.
Even when he's making some good points he does it in such an intentionally obnoxious way I almost want to disagree out of spite.

...Because I'm annoyed by someone who goes out of their way to be annoying? Right, ok...

Plus, check the phrasing, I said 'almost'. I'm exaggerating. Who rattled your cage?

Jimquisition: A game by any other name

Postby Jirachi » 16 Jul 2012 18:31

I think a new dirrection is fine for a spin off, because you know it's a spin off but taking an existing seris and changing is not something they should do.

Jimquisition: A game by any other name

I agree with him to an extent (Jim). If this Silent Hill game is a spin-off then whatever, you don't really take it seriously, but when it's part of the main franchise, then I have some issues.

Like Super Paper Mario. It's a fun game, but it turned what was an RPG to side-scroller. I was furious at the time (because I didn't know if it was the last one) because it didn't belong in the franchise. It wasn't what the series was known for which is why I was mad. Yes the 3DS one is going back but... I have my own personal issues with that.

BK: N&B while yes, it's a spin-off(?) the problem was that it was Rare's last chance to reclaim their name to Microsoft, so they chose to bring back Banjo. But instead of coming back with the Banjo we all know and love, they did a spin-off game instead. And now because the game did so poorly, they're stuck making Kinect games. In fact, they could have just made BK3 and then after something like Diddy Kong Racing with the BK:N&B engine (no pun intended) and that would've worked out MUCH better. And yes, while most of Rare's talent left years ago, BK:N&B was the final nail in the coffin.

So there are genuine reasons to be upset if you're changing core elements of a franchise. And like the example with Dead Space 3, it looks like it's going to be a watered-down version of its predecessors, not to mention like Jim said, a homogenization of shooters which will make it end up being dull and less original than the first.

What led me to calling you an idiot is that you said "I "almost" want to disagree out of spite" Which to me means you would have the same attitude with other things. Like if you had some sort of life threatening disease that would kill you and the only cure comes from a Doctor that calls you nasty names and purposely tries to annoy you. Out of spite you would rather succumb to the disease.

Completely over exaggerated example but your reasoning is moronic and called for it.

"What's that you know a way to power the world with free energy...excellent! Wait a minute...you are a complete dick. Nah screw it I don't want free energy you meanie."

To disagree out of spite for something you would normally agree with is just quite frankly STUPID.

Except N&B is a great game and is equal to if not better than B&K1 and 2. And it's a damn shame that no one gave that game a chance. Beautiful art, innovative mechanics, more play style choice than anything Warren Spector has ever done and stuffed with so much content. Also another thing it had was a massive amount of emergent gameplay. Gameplay styles and ideas the developer could have never forseen. I can't recall 1 and 2 having that at all. I'd rather see N&B2 than B&K 3 because N&B has so much more to offer than a typical run of the mill platformer. And that is saying a lot because platformers are my go to genre.

Almost means he had to consider it for a brief moment of time. Which means during this brief moment of time he let an outside influence nearly shift an opinion he had already settled upon. An opinion which has NOTHING to do with Jim Sterlings attitude. That is not something an intelligent person considers even for a brief moment. If someone says something you agree with on a deep personal level you don't then reconsider because that persons attitude is not pleasing to you. As I said it's moronic and the opposite of intelligent.

If you disagree with me I hope it isn't out of spite. If it is you just prove my point.

Jimquisition: A game by any other name

@Fuego6
I can relate to you. It's a case of ad hominem, in a way. I can see how it irritates you so much, and I too don't really like when people do that.

On-topic: I almost agree with Jim, as well. Not because of me hating him (I love his persona, "Thank Godwin's law for me"? HAHAHAHA!), but because spin-offs CAN be harmful for the main franchise titles. For example, imagine that the people developing the spin-off actually are the same people developing the main series. You know what this means?
It means a new title for the main series won't come around very soon.

So I can see why people can be upset about spin-offs. "WHAT??! THEY'RE DOING A SPIN-OFF?!? F*** THAT, GIVE ME MORE [GAME]!!!"

It was an exaggeration to illustrate how much I dislike the persona he plays. You're drawing the inference that I was being genuine and going on some mad tirade, when I thought it was quite clear I was exaggerating. If I said, 'I hate Jim Sterling so much I almost want to run him over with my car', it doesn't mean I'd *actually* see him coming on the street and start to veer towards him for a second.

I can understand if it's difficult to get that I was exaggerating as it can easily be misinterpreted through text, but you're pretty much just trying to pick an argument for no reason, and I'm not going to indulge you any further.

I agree with Jim...
Though it's always great when his fanboys suffer meltdowns and seizures just because someone doesn't really like him.
Reminds me of a situation not too long ago when I ran into a moron named Bonampak who got himself banned on this very website because I said something not too flattering about his idol.
