i love my pinball games (yes, even sonic spinball, zidane :) ), and with the home page's news about the rumble being sold with metroid pinball, i might definitely have to get me the mario kart, red bundle. how cool would that be!?

zidane: speaking of sonic spinball... and it's a tad off-topic, but how blasphemous do you think of sonic, and in fact other sega franchises, appearing on nintendo hardware? i do own a few of the games for my gamecube

C'mon give the Micro some love

Postby manowatt » 21 Oct 2005 10:32

Alright, I gotta come out in support of the Micro. I've got one and it's currently my favorite way to play GBA games. I could play my SP, but the screen pales (literally) in comparison. I could play my DS, but I've just never liked the way GBA games feel on the DS. It's a little too clunky. I could even play them on my Game Boy Player through my TV, but the games look so much nicer on the small screen.

The price of the Micro may seem steep, but it is extremely high quality. The case is all metal, the screen is beautiful with adjustable brightness, it's got a headphone jack, etc.

I actually had no intention of getting one until I saw and played with one. I'm glad I got it, and I think anyone who loves Nintendo should defintely take a closer look at it.

Now if Nintendo would just drop the price on that SP with the new screen, I could add yet another GBA system to my collection. ;)

Retro Game Boy Micro (20 year anniversary)

Postby Sajenface » 13 Nov 2005 19:35

I was looking around on the internet, and i found this speech by Reggie. In this speech, he shows the retro gameboy.

http://www.getintothegame.com/pages/gam ... NM=gitg_aa

scroll down a bit, and look for the reggie speech video

The thing I don't like is its the Japanese Famicom micro. That system really has no nostalgia for American gamers. They need to do a NES style micro if they really want to do something cool. This is just them having extra Famicom micros and selling them outside of Japan.

Another thing I don't like is Reggie who strikes me as a complete phoney, but that is a discussion for another topic.

Yeah, I don't who is behind this decision, but it seems a bit wierd to me. Reggie made it sound like the black and silver GBMs were almost gone and when they were they would be replaced by the Famicom version. Sounds more like a liquidation of stock than a collector's item to me.

Why don't they just give us some damn faceplates?

You best be making that topic because Reggie is jesus. Plus, it would be good to have a Reggie discussion thread lol.

As for the topic, I'm not quite sure why they are trying the Famicom version over here. Testing waters maybe, seeing what might sell that people normally wouldn't think about. I doubt anything to do with the Micro will make or break the company, so why not.

"My name is Reggie, I'm about kickin' ass, I'm about takin' names, and we're about makin' games.
Uggh, what an ass clown statement.

Reggie is not a gaming guru he is just some marketing guy from VH1 they brought in to make Nintendo seem hipper and cooler. He is slowly improving the image, but I have to question some of his decisions. You really think commercials like that awful "Play on Playa" Nintendogs spot and that awful Fusion tour have convinced gamers that Nintendo is now hip and cool? I have liked some of his decisions and the marketing has improved, but to say he is Jesus is sickening. This guy does not make games he probably doesn't really play them either. He is just a marketing guy. Iwata and Miyamoto are the guys that will make or break Nintendo in the next generation and they are the reason the sales of the DS have improved by the software they have brought to the US.

I'm sorry, but the creator of the Big Foot Pizza is not the savior of Nintendo.

^^ Yeah, what he said!

Reggie is a typical marketing guy, and what marketing guys do best is repeat rehearsed lines that they think the consumer wants to hear. That said, I don't see what ass-kicking and name-taking have to do with Nintendo's strategy. I think that was, as Darkside said, an attempt to appear hip. I'll bring this back on topic by saying, I think that bringing the Famicom GBM to the states and calling it the 20th Anniversary Edition is a poor choice from a marketing standpoint. Agreed, it won't make a lick of difference in the long run, but an NES edition almost certainly would bring more sales from the US market.

ps - great comment about the bigfoot pizza!

OH MAN, DO I.

1. touch screen
2. voice recognition
3. 2 screens
4. portable mario 64 (and soon, brand spankin new mario side scroller)
5. Bla
6. bla
7. I could go on forever

But in all seriousness, there are amazing games on gameboy and DS that can't be played on the consoles. I used to have that same kinda problem. I prefered my tv consoles to my handhelds. But i got pulled in. Maybe you will too  (skinnier wallets are more comfy anyway)

i'm also afraid that i'll be tempted to dump hundreds of dollars at a time on the habit, should i get swept up ;) anyone have some good persuasive dialogue to convince me to get a DS?

Reggie seems like a decent guy who loves his job, but the thing is that if he hadn't done said the "Kicking ass" speech, nobody would even know/care who Reggie is. It's not like he does a ton of open-to-the-public speeches or appears in TV ads... he's a VP turned accidental "Internet celebrity". But hey, like I said, he seems like he might be a nice guy

I could think of lots of cool faceplates Nintendo could make that would go well with dark red; but mostly I wouldn't change it :)

If it only had a 8-bit mario on it. Kinda like the pokemon faceplate. :?

the retro GBM should have looked like an NES controller. although at that price i am tempted to buy one. although its for the best if i don't. would be a waste of money consider my DS plays GBA games.

Im a consumer whore so i bought it. I must admit though that the color makes it one sexy piece of hardware. The goldish faceplate and the burgundy body makes it really nice and shiny looking.

But if any of you buy a micro in the future or already own one, store.nintendo.com will be offering the faceplate on January.

I would really like to see a NES edition Micro faceplate. Hey maybe if everyone at GoNintendo signed a petition and sent it to Nintendo... lol, it could work...

Anyways, it's kind've like learning about your heritage. You want to learn more about your own heritage, rather than what your neighbor's ancestor's were like. The same thing applys here. We don't want a part of Japan's history. We want a faceplate that shows the US's history, a NES version. But seriously, I don't think it would hurt to make a petition.

Hello, I'm new to this forum. I love my GBA Micro, but I am going to sell it for a new DS Lite.

I switched the faceplate with my brother's micro, so mine is all black.
