Anyone playing Skate It?

Postby zartanPDX » 18 Nov 2008 23:33

I'm pretty sure Skate It came out today, i was wondering if anybody picked it up? I'm really curious to how well the controls stack up. I use to be a sucker for the tony hawk games, and am now looking for something to mindlessly waste hours and hours on. lemme know.

I live in Europe, so I cannot even buy it, but the game sounds pretty good and I'm sure it will sell pretty well. Of course, I'll be buying it as soon as possible: too bad it's not a PLay 3/360 game, in order to receive al the hype it deserves. But it's a Wii game, so it's bad.

You mean the hype will be bad cuz it's on Wii, or the game itself will be bad? And wait a minute, we can't get the game in Europe!? Do you just mean because of the delay or is the game not releasing here?

Wow, my english is terrible, but THAT terrible, I didn't know  Sorry if my post is misunderstanding.
By the way, I meant the hype is low cos it's a Wii game: it had 8.5 on IGN, it's a great score, but did you see anyone on 1Up podcast or other stuff like that talking about it? Nope. Of course they don't, it's for Wii. I'll tell you, the Wii in 5-6 years will be seen as one of the best consoles: it's just that today it's cool to say "wii sucks, lulz, shovel graphics ftl".

And I won't buy it just because of the delay: if I'm not wrong it's not even gonna be released within the end of the year!

^ Yeah, don't worry your english definitely isn't bad, in fact considering it's a second language it's really good. Sometimes even most people who speak english as their main language word things badly and cause misunderstanding lol. So yeah, it's fine.

And as long as next year turns out to be as good as we all hope (as in game's like The Conduit, Monster Hunter, Sin & Punishment and MadWorld live up to their hype) then I agree that the Wii, in time, will garner much greater respect. Although who knows. Frankly I don't particularly care anymore what a bunch of self-proclaimed "Hardcore-gamers" think of my personal choice of console. They don't like it, they can get screwed. I've had fun with my system.

Thank you, too bad I cannot often explain myself: the biggest problem in Italy is that we learn English just by reading on the books: in the class tests, it's not important how many words you know or how good you are at building up sentences: you must know that, for example, you must use the present perfect with already, yet and just. So, to be appreciated you just need to know stupid rules which none ever uses in the real language or in a forum. My grammar is not perfect, I cannot even speak Italian properly, but who cares? If you understand me, I can speak English. If you don't, I can't. It's easy, it's not hard. But here it doesn't work so: you're asked to know just few rules and nothing else. For example, in Holland or in Germany the situation is much better: they learn to speak English, not just the language.
Wow, OT!

I'm pretty sure that anyway next year will turn out the Wii won't ever be appreciated like Xbox 360 and Playstation 3 are: if the 2009 isn't enough as core year, I don't really knw what it is. Oh well, you already said that: the most important thing is that Wii enjoy our console. Period.

I have it and love it.

I have played now 60% of the career mode only with the balance board and it works just fine. Of course, you have to get used to it, but than it works great. Tried the wiimote controlling, but i prefere the BB a lot more.

Its a great game with great controlls, but you need time to get into it.

So what are people with game playing it with? Remote or Balance Board? Are you guys with BananaJoe here or is the Wii Remote best? I think IGN preferred the standard Wiimote/ Nunchuck setting...

I apologize profusely for bringing an old topic back from the dead, but I felt it would be better than making a new topic about a pretty old game.

I've recently picked this up for cheap, and I am absolutely in love with it. Much more realistic than Tony Hawk.

I skate seriously in real life, but the area I live in doesn't have very hospitable summers (114 degrees today, yipes!), which makes skating outdoors pretty cruddy. I felt like I was succumbing to heat exhaustion the other day.

I do have a few gripes however, and I was hoping someone who's played this could help me out:

Problems with Wiimote+Nunchuck:

1. I started out with remote and nunchuck controls, which seem to be significantly unresponsive. I know that the wiimote is not too precise for some games, but it can get really ridiculous for this game. It seems that doing specific tricks first try is completely out of the question in this control mode, my skater seems to do whatever random flip that he feels like. I don't have huge issues with this, but it can get annoying when I'm doing different motions and end up doing nothing but kickflips and heelflips for 5 minutes

2. It takes nearly a full second or more for the skater to respond to a movement, even with firm, careful movements. In a game that is all about timing, it quickly becomes frustrating to slam into a raised platform 5 times in a row. Am I doing something wrong?

Problems with Balance Board:
(To be fair, I just started using the board, and I've read it takes some getting used to/ sensitivity tweaks)

3. Turning. Holy hell. The balance board's sensitivity seems to be very low when you are centered, and it takes a lot of leaning to start a turn. I would just raise the sensitivity, but once you begin to turn, the balance indicator swings far to the sides and it's difficult to get yourself going straight again.

Only problem with actual game:

4. Vert obstacles. Quarter pipes, halfpipes, etc. What am I doing wrong? No matter how fast I am going, it seems like it is difficult to get any air at all. Even with a well timed ollie, I can barely get off the ramp. I'm absoultly positive this is my own fault, hoping I could get some consultation with this.

Thanks in advance to anyone that could help. I do love this game, and when it works, holy bajesus, it's a blast.
