My favorite band is the Arctic Monkeys. You really cannot go wrong with any of their songs.
Other than that:
The White Stripes
Red Hot Chili Peppers
Editors
Kanye West
Green Day is okay
The Who
AC/DC

So I'm pretty much an indie-rock guy (excluding Kanye West).

Last year I became totally obsessed with OverClocked Remix. For someone who, like me, loves all kinds of videogame music AND an extremely broad range of genres, it gives me a giant playlist that never gets boring.
Now Playing:
World of Goo [Wii] - Game of the Year 2008!!!
Starcraft: Brood War [PC] - Those damned Zerg!

Really been into metal a lot lately. Just got the Opeth discography since I have fond memories of listening to them in high school.

Have you ever listened to Earth? They came out with an album last year titled The Bees Made Honey in the Lion's Skull, which is like, ambient, groovy, psychedelic, progressive rock of sorts. I highly recommend.

I like anything I find pleasing to my eardrums. A better question would be to ask me what I don't like. For one I dislike country music. It's just boring to me, save for the occasional novelty country song like "Honky Tonk Badonkadonk" (which I found amusing since it's kinda funny). Otherwise I just don't care too much for it. In particular, a large majority of male country singers all sound the same to me. Ask me to tell Toby Keith and Billy Ray Cyrus apart and I just couldn't. Not knocking anyone who does like it, it's just not something I find pleasing.

I also might dislike specific bands without really feeling any resentment towards the bands genre. "Brokencyde" is honestly one of the worst rap/rock/crunkcore bands I've ever heard. I actually wish they were a parody group or something because the first time I heard "Bree Bree" on accident I thought "lol, sounds like they're making fun of crappy MySpace bands" but then I realized later that they're actually being serious about their music. Basically, they ARE a crappy MySpace band. Blech, I wonder why the heck Jeffree Star keeps touring with them. Jeffree, I love ya you crazy transvestite (his music is actually nice to dance to), but geez lrn2tourw/bttrgrups.

Has anyone heard of The xx? Their self titled album is very good. It's mellow, so for me to say I like it means a lot.

I probably won't listen to anything for a couple months because of this album. My absolute favorite now.

It's sad that there's not enough music talk here! Last year was an absolutely terrific year for music fans, and hopefully this year is too! Just this last month, Cloud Nothings' new record and Of Montreal's new record came out, and they were fantastic! And then there was the whole Lana Del Rey debacle, which culminated in a less than impressive album (In my opinion).....

Anyhow, let's talk about music more!

Too much to name. But in a nutshell, I mostly listen to rock/metal/classic rock. I also love classical/symphony, celtic/world music, SOME select rap, specific older stuff like some Enya or Michael Jackson, specific 80s songs etc, acoustic/folk music, a few select old country/western songs, certain old jazz or r&b, and of course, classic video game music.

Music I DON'T like, or outright hate, would include: modern pop of any sort (it seems to get more annoying every decade), modern country (hate it), gospel (obviously, not being Christian, no use for it), techno of pretty much any sort, except for some newer video game music. I HATE "dubstep", and have decided that it must be the worst kind of "music" ever invented. Also not a big fan of ALL kinds of metal, for instance not big on death/black/grindcore/etc., nor do I really care for these modern emo/screamo/whatever bands that keep popping up.

My fav. band of all time is Metallica, hands down. Not to go on a listing tangent, but some of my other top bands include: Megadeth, Sevendust, Queen, Black Sabbath (w/ Ozzy), Kansas, The Beatles, Green Day, Live, Alice in Chains, Testament, Death Angel, Days of the New, etc. etc. etc.

Best LIVE performances I've ever seen? Metallica, they put on the best live show I've ever seen. Sevendust, Kansas, Blue Oyster Cult (very fan friendly), Opeth, Styx (even though I saw them twice and they played practically the same set). Megadeth was pretty good too.

It's a common mistake, but I hate it when people use "techno" as a general term for electronic or dance music. "Techno" is a sub-genre of EDM that hasn't been popular since the 80s. That said, Grime and Dubstep can be good but not what people associate with genre, i.e., Skrillex. What he makes is a scene known as Brostep which is preoccupied with more agressive timbres, and I'll agree with you in that respect since I'm not too big of a fan of that.

But in any case, I like Metallica as well, I used to be into them in high school. What are your favourite Metallica and Beatles albums?

I've been really into At the Drive-In recently, my interest kick-started again when they recently announced they were reforming. Them and Cloud Nothings. Hadn't heard of them until a few weeks ago, but their new album sounds great. Still waiting for it to release here.

Other than those two I listen to a lot of Radiohead, Sonic Youth, Modest Mouse-type alternative and on the electro-side I'm pretty into Four Tet and Swarms. The latter people probably haven't heard of, but if you like the more subtle flavours of dubstep I recommend them.

lol Was that honestly "facepalm" worthy? I think what I meant was, I just don't really care for most electronica type music at all. So generic "techno" works for me. And Dubstep, Brostep.......just ........no. For me personally. Though, as I said, I mind it less when it's in a video game, provided it isn't SUPER repetitive or abrasive. For example, some of the music in the Tekken series is fine for background music, but I wouldn't listen to it on my own.

As for fav. albums of those two bands, I'd have to say for Metallica: Ride the Lightning, ...And Justice for All (my fav. album by any band), "The Black Album", and Re-Load (it has some great music on it). Death Magnetic is edging it's way in there. But RtL and AJfA definitely the tops.

As for the Beatles, probably Rubber Soul and "The White Album". I like their music more when it got deeper.
