Microsoft E3 Thread

Postby Jaden » 17 May 2009 10:30

So with E3 around the corner, what do you think Microsoft will bring to the plate? In my mind, they really don't have much to introduce. The new update is out, i am pretty sure they are not going to release another version of the console, and it seems like they are loosing some of their exclusives.

I myself am excited to see more of COD Modern Warfare 2. Also some of Bioshock 2. I hope they have some good games introduced though since that is what will keep the xbox going.

I'm guessing they'll stick to sequels and not try to risk losing money on new franchises that might not go over well with customers. So probably Bioshock 2, bad company 2, and maybe a new Resident Evil game. They'll also try to compete with the Wii's controller with the Zcam maybe being announced.

I think we might be seeing Master Chief become Microsoft's Mario, as in we'll be seeing Spartan Party 1 through 69, Warthog Racer, Master Chief Baseball, etc. etc. (maybe not quite like that, but I'm sure there'll be at least one new spinoff Halo game) I'm also expecting the unveiling of Mass Effect 2, Bioshock 2 and probably a new RPG from Squenix, ala Lost Odyssey.

Master Chief Baseball sounds awesome. Master Chief and Kratos at the Olympic Games. Master Chef.

Anyways, Back to the topic...

I think they're going to release another firmware update. As for the games, probably sequels of the already awesome games that have come out for it. I'd sure love to see a new IP be revealed just to see what they can come up with. Also, I'm thinking they may reveal like a teaser into their next console.

I'm hopin' for lots of stuff from Rare, and more Platformers, RPGs and innovative titles like Hydrophobia, personally. [The latter does still exist, right?]

I'm a 360 newbie as of last Friday. :P

Microsoft E3 Conference Thoughts & Discussion

Postby Chosenoneknuckles » 01 Jun 2009 15:10

Being a relative newbie to the 360, HD games and not being a shooter fan but of other genres [platformers, RPGS, puzzlers, survival horrors...], I honestly wasn't expecting much, but it was actually pretty good. My first LIVE watching of an E3 conference too. 8)

Here's what I enjoyed:

- Final Fantasy XIII

- Alan Wake

- Live Party / Movies with Friends

- Facebook Connect

- Project Natal [first thought was 'oh no they didn't!']

If they can fully realise it as shown in that trailer & demonstrations, then I feel real bad for Nintendo now [seeing as they started this interactive revolution off]...

Tis is definitely one to watch, though. Playing the next Banjo, Silent Hill and Final Fantasy with that would be pure epic-ness!

[Wonder what Nintendo thought and what they'll showcase tomorrow...]

So what did you guys enjoy? :)

The only thing that caught my eye was Project Natal. It has TREMENDOUS potential and I can honestly say that Nintendo will find it very hard to outdo Microsoft on this one.

I can't wait to interact with Milo. Videogame boundaries have just been blown apart. The sky is no longer the limit.

Thanks for making this topic, I was looking for someplace to share my thoughts.

I couldn't watch the live stream so I followed the live text blog on GameSpot. And I was impressed. Lots of big-name 3rd party games on the way. For the most part it was strictly game focused (the stuff like Facebook and Last.fm and Twitter -- blargh. Not my cup of tea at all). MGS announcement is HUGE especially if that is exclusive (didn't they say the last games shown were all 360 only?). That kart racing game with DLC levels you can share with others is an interesting idea...almost like a viral way of getting people to buy it.

The motion sensing is really an enhanced EyeToy and I have my doubts about it, but it surely has a TON of potential. Put it in a real core game and then we can see how applicable it is. I see it as different than the Wii Remote, almost not comparable.

After reading up on what MS had to say Nintendo really needs to have a good conference to respond. I'm looking forward to both Nintendo and Sony's conferences tomorrow.

That said -- I don't own a 360 and still don't plan to buy one, but it's good to see MS is keeping pace.

Yeah, I guess so, but just the possibilities are roaring through my head now. I never expected Microsoft to do that to me. I've wanted that next BIG advance since the end of the N64, and the Wii was only half realised [WM+ is one step better, though].

It's actually rather funny now, cos I'm finding some more long term Microsoft gamers aren't liking the prospect of 'flailing' around in future games. :P

Yea, there are definitely HUGE possibilities. Tons of potential.

I feel the same way about Wii MotionPlus. :P

And even if they are somewhat different, perhaps the existance of each will result in better quality support and software for each. Competition is always a good thing.

Microsoft at E3 2009 - Impact?

Postby Striker Jacen » 01 Jun 2009 15:57

Okay, so Microsoft held their annual event at E3 2009, announced a whole bunch of new games (new Metal Gear, woot!) and had a lot of new things to show off.
One of those new things is Project Natal, Microsoft's answer to the casual market and the Wii's enormous marketshare.

How do you think the 360's new games or new features (Project Natal's full-body control or otherwise) will affect Nintendo or Sony?

What features/games did you like or dislike the most?

I found the Microsoft conference up until the Natal reveal to be pretty straight forward, but not really exciting. They had that girl talk about FaceBook and Twitter(I kept thinking CAMMIE get off the stage!). They displayed a lot of games already known about, and that I honestly didn't care about...but I was pleasantly surprised to see them reveal the news on Natal and actually demo it.
I also thought it was crazy/hilarious the jabs directly spoken at Nintendo, almost making Nintendo walking into a trap if they mention those things...
Microsoft guy said something like, "We aren't going to talk about attach rates, or sales data, or any of that stuff, just games..."
Then the Kudo(Kuto?) guy said when talking about Natal, "It's not preprogrammed WAGGLE controls."

So, I'm glad to see MS actually exploring new territories, and trying to create new interactive gaming methods like Natal...that being said, I do think they probably will get voted as having the best conference, just because of the Natal reveal and I don't see Nintendo/Sony having anything like it to compare(we've known about WM+ for more than a year, that's considered old news to me).

natal sounds really cool, I'm glad it's a legitimate alternative as opposed to a ripoff, Microsoft did amazing already, and definitely had the right idea about showing off games instead of sales figures. As for the games, my live stream cut out for the last hour or so, and I neglected to work on it as I honestly had stuff to do, but a lot of the games sounded great, Beatles Rock Band looked amazing, although the cameos were lame (hey, we're famous, see ya). Also, yay Crackdown 2.

EDIT: realized there was another thread, I'd delete and repost, but our lovely moderators will be merging shortly I'm sure. *mental image of avatar turning around {OH GOD} and buckling in, like a plane*

Things I'm looking forward to now: Modern Warfare 2, Halo 3: ODST and Left 4 Dead 2, and sort of Crackdown 2. Final Fantasy XIII on 360 had serious framerate issues (I was watching on G4). Doesn't matter though, as I'm getting the PS3 version. And I'm sure it'll hit both PS3 and 360 in Spring 2010 here (note: Some idiots now think it's 360 timed exclusive here). Oh, and the english voice acting was cringe worthy for what little there was. Alan Wake and Splinter Cell...a lot of people seem to really like what they saw, but they both looked a bit boring, especially Alan Wake. A question on Rock Band Beatles: Why have 1 exclusive DLC song for charity? That makes no sense to me.

Metal Gear Solid Rising on 360. Who didn't see it coming? Honestly? It's not Metal Gear Solid 4, so you know what? The rumors can finally die, and I for one, am thrilled. Now...Natal...first let me address Milo...hell no. I don't want to talk to some fake 12 year old British kid. For the device, it looks harder to use than Wii Fit and more exhausting.

Overall, I felt it was pretty meh. I know people will want to watch movies with friends over Live, but I have no interest if I still have to pay for it. Twitter/Facebook...that's definitely huge, but it better not interrupt me while I'm playing.

I share the opinion that this Natal thing can be a huge hit and blow to Nintendo and Sony if they are not ready. The games were nice and all but the Natal project really held up the conference by itself. The Milo game looks exactly the way Nintendogs looked when Nintendo first showed it: kiddy, but the technology behind it is really sophisticated. I, for one, would really like to try the Milo game out. It looks like it could be like a virtual friend, not pet anymore.

Up until last night I was thinking it would be really cool if Nintendo showed a new Mario or a new Zelda or StarFox or F Zero. Now I really think they will need all of the above and more if they want to come close to what Microsoft presented.

I really hope Nintendo delivers.

Quick thoughts...Alan Wake looks cool. The new Halo stuff actually looks pretty interesting, and that's coming from someone who doesn't really like the FPS genre or Halo. Sequel to L4D, awesome. And I'm excited about MGS: Rising, whatever the hell it is (Lightning Bolt Action? Really?). More Metal Gear is always a good thing, and as someone who owns all the major platforms, I don't care where we get it, so long as there is more.

I didn't see the FFXIII stuff, but I haven't really enjoyed the core Final Fantasy series since around FFVII. Still, it's hard for me to not be a little interested in a FF game.

I thought Shadow Complex looked promising as well, even though I had to listen to that douchenozzle Cliffy "Little Man Syndrome" B present it.

The Natal thing looks cool, but it remains to be seen whether or not it takes off. The EyeToy is really cool as well, and no one seemed to care after all the press conferences were over. And as for that Milo thing, this wouldn't be the first time that Molyneux promised more than he can deliver. Sure, you can do a lot of neat crap in his games, but are they actually fun? That's the problem.

If Nintendo were to drop some info on both a new Mario and Zelda game tomorrow, I'd probably instantly forget about everything Microsoft said today.

Just caught the Project Natal videos over on the old Youtube and wow, certainly looks cool. Not sure it'll be a huge success though. Initailly I'd say it was just too... 'out there'. Although having said that I was pretty certain the Wii would be a complete flop as well when I first heard about that - so shows what my prediction skills are like. :P

I'm actually glad Microsoft have tried something similar to Nintendo in terms of revolutionary controls and an apparent broader demographic (judging by the families in the trailer). Competition is, as Burgers said, extremely important and hopefully, if this does succeed, we'll see Nintendo and Sony pulling out all the stops in future to refine their own control schemes.

I'd just like to say this is the way I feel about Molyneux, it just gets ridiculous after a while (oh yay, a dog, neato, Nintendogs meets RPGs). Also, there's another thread in general gaming that should get merged with this one, just FYI.
