'Family Guy' gets an Emmy nomination for Outstanding Comedy.

Hot damn! An animated TV show hasn't gotten a nomination in this category since 1961. That's before The Simpsons mind you. If you'll recall, Family Guy really did have a good season, with better jokes and taming the number of "random flashback jokes" to a minimum. But i don't think anyone saw this coming. This must be really eating the anti-Family Guy people up inside.

In case you're wondering, its competitors are The Office, 30 Rock, Flight of The Concords, How I Met Your Mother, Weeds, and Entourage. You can bet i'll still be routing for 30 Rock, currently the funniest show on planet Earth. (Yes, i know it's won the past two years).

First the Oscars crank up the number of Best Pic nominees to 10, now this? Something's up.

I haven't watched Family Guy this season, but I've always felt the humor only really worked in clips (ex. why Robot Chicken works). I suppose it's probably better now, to get this nomination, but I'd be fairly upset if it won, just because I like pretty much all of the nominees more (don't have the channels to watch Weeds or Entourage). If they were gonna do this, why not the Simpsons, back when it was in it's stride?

I watch that show, nobody else does because its on CBS and paired with the likes of their other comedy fair, but it's VERY funny, well worth the nomination, in my opinion.

I think you just got to listen closely to what they're saying, because some of their funniest jokes are lightning-quick and can zoom over you're head. It's not exactly 'obvious' humor, like Family Guy does a lot.

*Note*: 30 Rock is not the first show to do this. Arrested Development (R.I.P.) had this same technique and i'm pretty sure 30 Rock was heavily influenced by that show.

Curb Your Enthusiasm does it too, so I don't think that Arrested Development started the whole thing, although I think they did it better.

How on earth is this possible?

The only improvements this show has made since returning is animation design. When comparing it to the first three seasons it makes them look like shovel, but dialogue, voices, and characters were all perfect in the first three seasons, but degraded in the current episodes.

Once they brought them back they focused on certain areas of the characters and basically burnt them out. I can still watch every episode from seasons 1-3 and laugh through the entire thing. I may end up with 2-3 laughs through the new ones, and that's just down right sad.

It really is a down right terrible show, and I hope with the return of Futurama we don't suffer the same fait.

Last season Family Guy was probably the best adult-themed animated show. Which is too bad since it was King of the Hill's last season and I love that show. The Star Trek episode alone was beautiful. But I don't understand how you can hate on the character voices? What's wrong with them?

I recently started watching some of King of the HIll after ignoring it for many years. Not the funniest show, except for a few incredibly funny bits. But I love how they always have really thoughtful and satisfying stories every episode. Plus, i love the character who always mumbles something hilarious.
