I voted PC, because I use them everyday, and I don't use a mac everyday. If I had a mac, I would, but I don't, so I don't.

Personally they both are annoying in their own right, if someone could combine both and take only the good things from them, we'd all be happier.

I have to side with Mac because it doesn't lock up/stop working/act like a jackass like biil (the name for my pc) does.

I have yet to have a M$ product actually work like it should.

and i love the mac vs pc ads, they are damn funny.
Don't sit there and peek around the corner and ask me stupid questions when I'm playing a video game like 'who's winning?' I'M winning. that's all you need to know.

I love my Mac. It was a big change from Windows XP, but once I had gotten used to it I don't think I ever want a PC again. I'm not saying Windows sucks, but the infrastructure of Mac is just way better for me. Everything just works, you don't have to worry about drivers etc. It's way more organised and a lot faster (compared to my older PC).

I also do a lot of graphic stuff and in this business Mac has become pretty much standard, which was also the way I actually got introduced to Macs. Though I have to say, a lot of Mac-users really praise Mac OS way to much. It's not perfect: it can crash or freeze, but hey, it's still a computer. Overall I just like the whole look and feel of OSX much more compared to Vista. I've never been a fan of Vista's 'eye-candy'. (Though I do have XP installed through Boot Camp to play a game every now and then such as Portal)

So I voted Mac.

Mac, because Steve Jobs makes quality products and doesnt rush them out the door. And Vista has to be the worst piece of crap operating system besides Microsoft M.E.

Oh, and Macs are so sexy.

Well I've only used Macs on the rare occasion but I have to admit, I'd love one. I use my laptop a lot for music editting (recording and mixing etc) so I'd definitely like a Mac for that. Shame about the fact they're so damn expensive. That's the main thing stopping me from getting one anytime soon. I don't play games on computer (mainly because I hate all the touble I always seemed to get from PC games), I'm a console guy, so for me compatibility really isn't a big deal.

How wonderful then that you can use any keyboard or mouse you want on Mac. And contrary to popular (PC) believe, IT HAZ A RIGHT CLICK!

I must agree Apple's Mighty Mouse is kind of crappy. Nice design, but way too expensive for what you get. Also, that little trackball in the middle is not always as responsive and can even stop working at times, quite annoying. But I use a Logitech Bluetooth mouse on my Macbook Pro, works great.

Though Apple's newest keyboard, the really flattish aluminum one - I really like it. I was skeptical about the flat buttons, but they type really well. My personal problem with Apple is that where I live we use AZERTY keyboards and Apple's AZERTY isn't as well lay'd out as the QWERTY one. I sometimes like have to search a lot to know how to type certain symbols (like square brackets such as [ and ])

Yeah I definitely hate the Mac mouses. No right click is a real problem. So we have a real (computer) mouse for our Mac. I couldn't care less about the keyboards, as long as they have all the right keys.
Also, the Mac layout (for every application) pisses me off. I'm so used to the windows layouts that I have a hard time doing anything even slightly advanced on Mac's. The Mac commercials are pretty funny though.

So overall, Windows (except for Vista).

Well, of course it takes some adjusting. I had been using Windows all life and only recently switched to Mac. In the beginning its a bit confusing, but once you get used to it it's quite perfect actually. It's definitely way more organised than Windows.

And all Mac mouses have had right clicks for several years, btw. You can't see it in the smooth designs, but it's definitely there. The Mighty Mouse even has a third click when you push down the trackball. But imo the Mighty Mouse is way too overpriced and the trackball is not always as responsive.

I've only bought one in the last 6.5 years and it was a Dell PC, my first and only computer to own. It's time for me to upgrade and I've been debating on what to do, I want to be able to play games on my new computer and thus the reason a PC is already on the positive side. I also am going to want a video card for some quick video editing, and I've used my same computer for 6.5 years and it has worked perfectly fine, just takes a while sometimes when saving and doing certain features in videos. I haven't had any problems with my PC in 6.5 years, no virus, no hardware or software issues. So I've been extremely happy with my PC. I know the Macs are extremely popular now, but they also seem to be a lot more expensive than a regular PC. I bought my PC 6.5 years ago for less than $1000 with monitor and printer...it was able to run FarCry at lower settings, and it allowed me to use the map editor in FarCry which I really enjoyed.
Anyway, I'll probably be updating in the next month, probably for Christmas. I'm wanting a computer that will do video editing without any issues and play games now like Crysis and allow me to use the map editor without any problems. I know Macs seem popular for video editing, but again, using my Windows PC for the last 6.5 years has been fine and I haven't had any issues, I even got Windows Movie Maker to use the bluescreen function in some film editing that I didn't think was possible. So even after reading through the comments, I'm not seeing anything to sway me to Macs, considering I've never had an issue with my PC, any thoughts?

I just bought one of the new MacBook Pros about a month and a half ago, and I love it. (Thank you scholarships!)

If you're concerned with games, then I don't see the problem. I have a Windows partition set aside for when I feel like rolling with Team Fortress 2 or Left 4 Dead, and I have both set at the highest settings without any sort of problems at all. Blizzard makes most of their games Mac compatible, so I haven't been having any trouble with WoW and expect the same when StarCraft II releases.

Not so sure about Crysis, as I'm not in the least bit interested in playing it anyway. I'm pretty sure you wouldn't be able to go full settings (obviously), but I'm sure you'd be able to run it...

I dunno, Valve and Blizzard are really the only reasons I play any PC games period.

Anyway, my point is that I don't think games should be a major concern for you in your purchase, as that's a moot point. I'm thinking you're going to have more trouble justifying the price if anything. That's the major concern.

However, having been an Apple fan since... forever, I'd have to say that I find it more than worth it. It really is a much more enjoyable experience. Even though I play my Valve games on Windows, that doesn't mean I don't hate having to do so. (And the fact that most of my engineering classes prefer us to work in Windows makes it all the more aggravating.)

If you have the money and can justify it, go Mac. That's what I say.

(Although, hooking this thing up to a projector is far more trouble than it should be, port-wise... XP)

My thoughts:

Stick with what you know. Get a nice PC. If you have no issues with windows and all you want to do is game and video edit, then all you need is a PC. Sure, you could buy a mac and have windows on one partition, but how often would you actually use the mac side? Probably not that often. I switched to a mac because windows machines were causing problems. But in your case, if it's not broken, don't fix it. (besides, I find iMovie highly annoying, but it might just be me)

If you are still curious about macs, get a macbook or mac mini (when they are actually updated).

So, this is coming from a mac fan, and I hope you found what I had to say useful in your next computer purchase. Good luck. :P

of course if you hop on the PC bandwagon now with a new machine, you're likely to get roped into Vista, which hasn't exactly won over the hearts of the Windows crowd so far...

i had been hearing about the discontinuing of XP availability; not sure if that idea sank or swam though. but bottom line.. be sure you love Vista before committing a new PC purchase, especially if your rationale rests on "if it ain't broke..."

Oh! That's a good point! I'm so used to XP, I've forgotten people are using Vista. :P

Yeah, that's a big point to consider. All of my friends got Vista with their laptops for college, and at least one had to reinstall everything at least three times so far. (Another one got a virus at our LAN party...) All of them prefer XP over Vista.

BTW, the declining XP availability is true, at least in my experience. The campus comp store said they had "plenty" of copies in September, and assured me that they would continue to stock copies even after mainstream retail outlets would discontinue it. Yet when I came in the middle of October looking to score myself a copy of XP, they said Microsoft had halted most shipments to better push Vista.

(Of course, that just wouldn't do for me, so I had to get my copy through... other means. :P)

Point is, consider the Vista factor. You may be used to PCs, but perhaps not Vista. If you decide to go PC, I highly recommend searching for a good XP deal.

Macs!!

I'm upgrading (actually transitioning) from a PC to a MacBook Pro 13.3". I have had enough with the stupid power consuming Vista, tired of all the 'non-responding' programs and absolutely CANNOT TAKE the slow loading times. Microsoft ruined everything with Vista and I'm not going to wait for Windows 7. I have been contemplating since 2004 on going onto Macs but now it is final. Macs are becoming cheaper, the extremely huge battery life is a big bonus for me and really now, you can install Windows on your Mac so... yeah!

Go Mac!!

I just bought my first laptop a month ago and, surprise, it had Vista Home Basic (or whatever it's called).

I've heard things about Vista, but man... the fact that it asks for permission to run a lot of applications I frequently use for "security reasons" and then gets a virus (with me having 2 anti-viruses) is pathetic.

I think I'm done with PC's. I'll save enough so my next laptop is a Mac...

I've had a Mac for three years now, and just the thought of using a PC makes me annoyed.

I enjoy having a clean interface, easy search options, 0 pop-ups telling me about errors, Iphoto will automatically install any photos I place in it unlike the PC where I may have to download a program, and you can't go wrong with Itunes.

If you are a PC gamer then clearly the mac is not the way to go, but for anyone else there really is no reason to ignore it. You can install Windows XP onto your Mac and run both operating systems if needed, so why should we bother with the PC anyway?

One of my biggest complaints about the Mac though is if you format your Iphone or Ipod through the Mac you will not be able to plug it into a friend's PC. This basically means if I want some music from a friend's computer I would need my Ipod/Iphone to be PC formated and not Mac. :x :?

Honestly speaking, Macs are great when you have a job in video/audio production, design or something along those lines. But for regular everyday use I just find Mac owners to be pretentious and snobby.

PCs are just fine for everyday home use. But the other stuff mentioned above, however, you definitely need something higher-end.

well they can get some viruses people just don't code the viruses as much for macs because theirs is no huge corporation that the coders could possible want to take out. It would almost be like making a sandwich for a dead person.

i do like my mac for my everyday use. i like how clean it is compared to my windows. But i do love my windows that i have on boot camp to run my games. i have been previewing windows 7. its pretty nice. but i still think it has some flaw like vista.

In my opinion both mac and pc have their fatal flaw but both get the job done is a very good manor. with mac you are paying more for a better outside look and garage band, imovie, iphoto, itunes, and a really clean interface. with windows you still get a great OS its just trimmed down a little but the price reflects that. I'm sure if apple would allow Mac OS X to have 3rd parties make the computer we would see some really cheap "macs" too.
